Download or read book Political Engagement of the Young in Europe written by Peter Thijssen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-12-14 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although many scholars are convinced of the apparent civic disengagement of youth, others suggest that civic participation of young people is stable and increasingly expressed through non-institutionalized forms of practicing politics. This book makes a key contribution to this discussion by asking whether the "decline or shift" paradigm is sufficient in understanding political participation of the youth. It argues that we need to move beyond this framework and develop a renewed reflection on the meaning of "civic and political engagement". It asks crucial questions such as: How can the young be educated into assuming civic and political responsibility? Why and how do young people engage in social and political action? How do the principal mediating institutions (education, media and the family) contribute to new or different forms of youth civic engagement? This text contains contributions from acknowledged specialists such as Constance Flanagan, Mark Elchardus, Marc Hooghe and Bert Klandermans and will be of key interest to students and scholars of youth and young citizens, civic & political involvement, European politics, youth studies, sociology, political participation and electoral behaviour.

Download or read book Successful Outsourcing and Multi Sourcing written by Derek Parlour and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-01 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are books on outsourcing, but most are by academics or consultants. Few address multi-sourcing. The author of Successful Outsourcing and Multi-Sourcing, is a practitioner who headed an operation that handles over 500 million customer contacts a year with less than 30 staff, through both outsourcing and multi-sourcing. Multi-sourcing occurs where each individual function is contracted directly by the client rather than using a large system integrator or prime contractor. This approach lowers costs, reduces reliance on suppliers, speeds up change and generates a greater degree of innovation. The downside is it places much more of the risk on the client and needs specialist skills to run effectively. As well as a focus on multi-sourcing, the book addresses the question of why a business should outsource in the first place and how decisions to do this should be strategic, rather than it being something that happens by accident. Chapters then illuminate the benefits of single-sourcing; the benefits of multi-sourcing; how best to decide what outsourcing model to choose; how to transition to outsourcing; and what steps to take to maximise benefit and minimise risk. Downsides are clearly spelled out and alternatives to outsourcing are examined, including partial outsourcing and insourcing. This book serves as a valuable source of practical guidance for organisations looking at outsourcing strategy, outsourcing professionals, and those teaching or studying business topics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The number of projects is increasing worldwide as traditional and repetitive tasks are carried out through automation. Projects being temporary and unique while being adopted globally across sectors presents a challenge for the effective management of environmental, economic, and social parameters. Projects are people centric and require the effective management of internal and external stakeholders. In the modern age, social media is seen as a tool that connects people across the world having significant implications on everyone’s daily life. Social media is used for different purposes and encompasses multiple affordances as these are often free and also bring together people from different walks of life who tend to use them differently. However, the role of social media in managing projects is still under explored. In this edited book, multiple authors working on the application of social media in projects come together to craft an agenda for the future. First, the use of social media for internal stakeholders, such as managers and engineers, are discussed. Following this, the use of social media for external stakeholders, such as communities and project affected persons are discussed. Finally, the guidelines for education using social media and research using social media is discussed. Thus, the book brings together multiple authors to discuss how social media can be used in project settings to facilitate interactions and strategic conversations across hierarchical levels and geographic boundaries for diverse goals. The book is a valuable resource for all project management academics, researchers and practitioners who are interested in learning about the application of social media in project settings.
