Book Energy Savings Calculations for Commercial Building Energy Efficiency Upgrades

Download or read book Energy Savings Calculations for Commercial Building Energy Efficiency Upgrades written by Anthony J. Buonicore and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-07-02 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Code-compliant building materials and equipment will typically have a lower initial cost; however, the lifetime energy savings of the high efficiency equipment will often justify the upfront cost premium and result in a more cost-effective solution. Energy Savings Calculations for Commercial Building Energy Efficiency Upgrades assists energy professionals, contractors, building owners, and managers in developing energy savings estimates that can facilitate a quick assessment of the potential energy savings that might be realized when replacing existing building components with the highest efficiency equipment. It also provides algorithms to estimate greenhouse gas emission reductions that may be achieved by building energy efficiency upgrades and the impact these upgrades can have on building electrification-decarbonization projects. This book: Focuses on the development of energy savings estimates based upon a whole building’s energy consumption and the energy consumption associated with building end-uses such as space heating, space cooling, ventilation, lighting, and so forth. Includes over 70 illustrative examples using algorithms to demonstrate how energy savings and greenhouse gas emission reductions may be estimated utilizing different strategies and equipment.

Book Real Prospects for Energy Efficiency in the United States

Download or read book Real Prospects for Energy Efficiency in the United States written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2010-06-10 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: America's economy and lifestyles have been shaped by the low prices and availability of energy. In the last decade, however, the prices of oil, natural gas, and coal have increased dramatically, leaving consumers and the industrial and service sectors looking for ways to reduce energy use. To achieve greater energy efficiency, we need technology, more informed consumers and producers, and investments in more energy-efficient industrial processes, businesses, residences, and transportation. As part of the America's Energy Future project, Real Prospects for Energy Efficiency in the United States examines the potential for reducing energy demand through improving efficiency by using existing technologies, technologies developed but not yet utilized widely, and prospective technologies. The book evaluates technologies based on their estimated times to initial commercial deployment, and provides an analysis of costs, barriers, and research needs. This quantitative characterization of technologies will guide policy makers toward planning the future of energy use in America. This book will also have much to offer to industry leaders, investors, environmentalists, and others looking for a practical diagnosis of energy efficiency possibilities.

Book Retrofitting for Energy Conservation

Download or read book Retrofitting for Energy Conservation written by William H. Clark (II) and published by McGraw-Hill Professional Publishing. This book was released on 1997 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Convert residences and light-commercial buildings from energy-wasters to energy-efficiency. New remodelling codes require improvements in energy efficiency. Home and building owners want to reduce their energy costs. And now with Retrofitting for Energy Conservation, construction and design professionals can discover the most up-to-date plans, methods, tools, and materials for improving energy conservation in existing structures. Almost 85% of energy-conserving projects are retrofits, according to the National Association of Homebuilders. Retrofitting for Energy Conservation gives you the tools you need to meet this demand with step-by-step help in retrofitting any residence or light commercial building for energy savings. From assessing the challenge and offering the client options through initial project design and final execution of the building plan, this book gives you solutions that meet and exceed code requirements.

Book A Retrofit Tool for Improving Energy Efficiency of Commercial Buildings

Download or read book A Retrofit Tool for Improving Energy Efficiency of Commercial Buildings written by and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Existing buildings will dominate energy use in commercial buildings in the United States for three decades or longer and even in China for the about two decades. Retrofitting these buildings to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy use is thus critical to achieving the target of reducing energy use in the buildings sector. However there are few evaluation tools that can quickly identify and evaluate energy savings and cost effectiveness of energy conservation measures (ECMs) for retrofits, especially for buildings in China. This paper discusses methods used to develop such a tool and demonstrates an application of the tool for a retrofit analysis. The tool builds on a building performance database with pre-calculated energy consumption of ECMs for selected commercial prototype buildings using the EnergyPlus program. The tool allows users to evaluate individual ECMs or a package of ECMs. It covers building envelope, lighting and daylighting, HVAC, plug loads, service hot water, and renewable energy. The prototype building can be customized to represent an actual building with some limitations. Energy consumption from utility bills can be entered into the tool to compare and calibrate the energy use of the prototype building. The tool currently can evaluate energy savings and payback of ECMs for shopping malls in China. We have used the tool to assess energy and cost savings for retrofit of the prototype shopping mall in Shanghai. Future work on the tool will simplify its use and expand it to cover other commercial building types and other countries.

Book Improving Energy Efficiency in Buildings

Download or read book Improving Energy Efficiency in Buildings written by Dennis R. Landsberg and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 1980-01-01 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intended for practical application, this book provides a guide for reducing energy consumption in those buildings that were constructed when the cost of construction, not the cost of operation, was of primary concern. Now that the "Golden Age of Energy" is over, the heating, lighting, and ventilation systems of these buildings must be adapted to present and future economic circumstances. Landsberg and Stewart approach the problem of reducing energy consumption in these buildings by providing users of this book with solutions ranging from simple measures that cost nothing to complex modifications that must be given a cost-benefit analysis. The appendixes define energy basics for those who have little or no engineering background; evaluate alternative energy systems; and analyze the basic economic decisions of making changes in a building's energy consumption. The sample forms used for energy audits of buildings in New York State that can be adapted for use in other states and for private buildings are also included.
