Book Energy efficient Office Refurbishment

Download or read book Energy efficient Office Refurbishment written by Simon Burton and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-18 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Little has been published on the subject of energy-efficient refurbishment of offices, despite the growing need to refurbish older office building stock throughout Europe, and the global requirement to conserve energy. The book suggests the most energy efficient and environmentally friendly way to refurbish offices using examples of real buildings and designs wherever possible. Each case study includes a building description, the retrofitting strategy, passive and low energy technologies used, energy assessment, comfort and environment assessment, financial assessment, client and market assessment, and conclusion. This practical design manual will be invaluable for architects and engineers specialising in the refurbishment of commercial buildings.

Book Nearly Zero Energy Building Refurbishment

Download or read book Nearly Zero Energy Building Refurbishment written by Fernando Pacheco Torgal and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 655 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recast of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) was adopted by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union on 19 May 2010. For new buildings, the recast fixes 2020 as the deadline for all new buildings to be “nearly zero energy” (and even sooner for public buildings – by the end of 2018). This book gives practitioner an important tool to tackle the challenges of building refurbishment towards nearly zero energy. This book is welcome at this time and sets the scene for professionals whether practitioners or researchers to learn more about how we can make whether old or new buildings more efficient and effective in terms of energy performance.

Book Energy efficient Office Renovation Developing Design Principles Based on User focused Evaluation

Download or read book Energy efficient Office Renovation Developing Design Principles Based on User focused Evaluation written by Minyoung Kwon and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research aims to develop user-focused design principles for energy-efficient office renovations. The goal of this is to improve the quality and comfort of workspaces without compromising on energy-saving goals. Due to increasing sustainability requirements, new ways of working and changing office user preferences, there is a growing need for office renovations that not only deal with the energy performance and the replacement of building facilities, but also the occupants? health and well-being. The renovation of office buildings can substantially reduce energy demand and improve building performance. For this reason, most studies regarding office renovations have focused on achieving better energy performance and indoor environmental quality. Also, several studies have investigated employee satisfaction in the work environment. However, the users are only considered after the buildings have been built and taken into use (e.g., postoccupancy evaluation), but not in the early stage of the design phase. Although there are building regulations and norms regarding indoor comfort, no clear design principles or guidelines considering users have been developed for office renovations. Therefore, it is necessary to explore how office users can be included in the early design stage of office renovations to improve their comfort and satisfaction. This led to the following main research question to be answered in this thesis: How can design principles for energy efficient office renovation be developed, based on the evaluation of user satisfaction?

Book Handbook of Sustainable Refurbishment Housing

Download or read book Handbook of Sustainable Refurbishment Housing written by Simon Burton and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-03-29 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on careful analysis and experience in all housing sectors and house types, this handbook explains and demonstrates how to incorporate the most effective energy saving measures in the existing housing stock. It begins by setting out the basic aims of sustainable refurbishment before presenting a large number of illustrated case studies from a range of single- and multi-family dwellings. A practical section then details the specific measures that can be taken to reduce the energy demand of buildings, with extensive references to further resources. Written for architects and building engineers, the book combines technical and managerial solutions demonstrating that a new refurbishment culture needs to be created that radically improves the energy performance of all existing houses whenever any opportunity presents itself and whenever any work is carried out.

Book Cost Effective Energy Efficient Building Retrofitting

Download or read book Cost Effective Energy Efficient Building Retrofitting written by F. Pacheco-Torgal and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2017-01-03 with total page 633 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cost-Effective Energy Efficient Building Retrofitting:Materials, Technologies, Optimization and Case Studies provides essential knowledge for civil engineers, architects, and other professionals working in the field of cost-effective energy efficient building retrofitting. The building sector is responsible for high energy consumption and its global demand is expected to grow as each day there are approximately 200,000 new inhabitants on planet Earth. The majority of electric energy will continue to be generated from the combustion of fossil fuels releasing not only carbon dioxide, but also methane and nitrous oxide. Energy efficiency measures are therefore crucial to reduce greenhouse gas emissions of the building sector. Energy efficient building retrofitting needs to not only be technically feasible, but also economically viable. New building materials and advanced technologies already exist, but the knowledge to integrate all active components is still scarce and far from being widespread among building industry stakeholders. Emphasizes cost-effective methods for the refurbishment of existing buildings, presenting state-of-the-art technologies Includes detailed case studies that explain various methods and Net Zero Energy Explains optimal analysis and prioritization of cost effective strategies
