This book was released on 2017-09-22 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wireless Sensor Networks have a wide range of applications in different areas. Their main constraint is the limited and irreplaceable power source of the sensor nodes. In many applications, energy conservation of the sensor nodes and their replacement or replenishment due to the hostile nature of the environment is the most challenging issue. Energy efficient clustering and routing are the two main important topics studied extensively for this purpose. This book focuses on the energy efficient clustering and routing with a great emphasis on the evolutionary approaches. It provides a comprehensive and systematic introduction of the fundamentals of WSNs, major issues and effective solutions.

Book Performance Evaluation of Clustering Algorithms in Wireless Sensor Networks WSN Energy Efficiency of S Web and LEACH

Download or read book Performance Evaluation of Clustering Algorithms in Wireless Sensor Networks WSN Energy Efficiency of S Web and LEACH written by Sahil Sholla and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2015-03-27 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2013 in the subject Computer Science - Miscellaneous, grade: -, , course: Master of Technology, language: English, abstract: Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are highly integrated technologies applying sensors, microcontrollers and wireless networks technologies. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is a promising technology that has a large spectrum of applications such as, battlefield reconnaissance, border protection and security surveillance, preparing forecasts, severe environment detection, volcano monitoring, disaster management. WSNs operate unattended in harsh environments with limited energy supplies that can’t be practically changed or recharged. Thus energy efficiency is a critical design issue which must be addressed. Clustering plays an effective role in judicious use of dwindling energy resources of the deployed sensor nodes. Nodes are grouped into clusters and a specific designated node, called the cluster head is responsible for collecting data from the nodes in its cluster, aggregating them and sending to the BS, where data can be retrieved later. Besides energy efficiency, clustering has many other advantages like reduced routing overhead, conservation of communication bandwidth, stabilized network topology, network stability etc In this research, we study the energy efficiency of two clustering algorithms, S-Web and LEACH and compare them for network lifetime. Simulation results show that the S-Web clustering mechanism achieves a noticeable improvement in the network lifetime.

Book Mobile Wireless and Sensor Networks

Download or read book Mobile Wireless and Sensor Networks written by Amine Dahane and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-07-01 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wireless networking covers a variety of topics involving many challenges. The main concern of clustering approaches for mobile wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is to prolong the battery life of the individual sensors and the network lifetime. For a successful clustering approach, the need of a powerful mechanism to safely elect a cluster head remains a challenging task in many research works that take into account the mobility of the network. In Mobile, Wireless and Sensor Networks: A Clustering Algorithm for Energy Efficiency and Safety, the authors use an approach based on computing of the weight of each node in the network as the proposed technique to deal with this problem. They present a virtual laboratory platform (VLP) of baptized mercury, allowing students and researchers to make practical work (PW) on different aspects of mobile wireless sensor networks. The authors’ choice of WSNs is motivated mainly by the use of real experiments needed in most college courses on WSNs. These usual experiments, however, require an expensive investment and many nodes in the classroom. The platform presented here aims at showing the feasibility, the flexibility, and the reduced cost using the authors’ approach. The authors demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithms that contribute to the familiarization of the learners in the field of WSNs. The book will be a valuable resource for students in networking studies as well as for faculty and researchers in this area.

Book Energy Efficient Clustering Algorithms for Wireless Sensor Networks

Download or read book Energy Efficient Clustering Algorithms for Wireless Sensor Networks written by Puneet Azad and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2015-11-12 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wireless sensor networks have a wide range of applications in the field of Civil, Industrial, Health, Agriculture, Home Automation, Military and other areas. In a clustered network, the nodes are grouped into clusters each having a co-ordinator called cluster head (CH) responsible for collecting the data from all the nodes present in each cluster. The cluster heads are selected based on single or multiple criteria to enhance the overall lifetime of the network. This leads to effective management and energy efficient data transfer between the nodes and the sink. Based on the design constraints, this book presents various energy-efficient clustering algorithms that provide large benefits to the applications. These algorithms are designed to meet specific goals such as higher network lifetime of the network, lower average energy dissipation, higher number of data packets received and better stability region. The simulation results depict that all the algorithms are more effective in prolonging the network lifetime than other existing protocols.

Book Analysis of Energy Efficient Clustering Algorithms for Wireless Sensor Network WSN

Download or read book Analysis of Energy Efficient Clustering Algorithms for Wireless Sensor Network WSN written by Arun Ranganathan and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) consists of a huge number of tiny, lesser-cost devices with higher sensing ranges, processing and transmitting abilities. Because the sensor nodes have restricted battery power, energy efficiency is a significant design problem. Clustering is a successful algorithm used to decrease energy usage and increase the lifetime of WSN. Clustering algorithms group similar nodes in independent clusters. Every cluster has at least one Cluster Head (CH). Nodes send packet information to particular CHs. CHs send information to the Base Station. The characteristics of the energy heterogeneity of WSNs must be measured when developing clustering protocols. The major objective of this article is to study a modern survey on several clustering protocols or algorithms reported in the literature on WSNs. The review article also presents a detailed survey of several clustering algorithms for solving energy efficiency problems in WSNs and also presents the issues and advantages of various clustering algorithms in WSNs. The traditional clustering algorithms are simulated broadly, and the results are compared with the existing algorithms to demonstrate their results in terms of network life, energy usage, and Packet Delivery Ratio.

Book Wireless Sensor Networks

Download or read book Wireless Sensor Networks written by Neetika Bairwa and published by Mohd Abdul Hafi. This book was released on 2024-02-26 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have developed as a potentially useful technology for a wide variety of purposes, from surveillance to environmental monitoring. Wireless sensor networks are networks of tiny, low-power sensor nodes that can collect, analyze, and transmit data wirelessly. To gather information about their environments, these nodes generally have sensors like temperature, humidity, and motion detectors. The limited energy and computing resources of the sensor nodes are a significant barrier to WSNs. Since sensor nodes have limited energy capabilities due to their tiny size and dependency on batteries, energy efficiency is a crucial factor in WSN design. In order to keep WSNs up and running for as long as possible, it is essential that their lifespan be maximized while their energy consumption is kept to a minimum (Akyildiz et al., 2002). Many other energy-saving methods and procedures for WSNs have been offered by scientists as potential solutions to these problems. The goal of these methods is to reduce power consumption across the board, from individual sensor nodes to the network as a whole. In order to decrease the amount of energy needed to transmit data between sensor nodes, many clustering algorithms have been developed. Clustering is often employed in WSNs to increase scalability, decrease energy consumption, and consolidate data (Heinzelman et al., 2000). Clustering is a method for grouping sensor nodes, with the cluster head (CH) of each cluster being in charge of coordinating the work of the other nodes in the cluster (Heinzelman et al., 2002). The cluster heads gather, analyze, and send data from their clusters to the base station (BS), which helps save power and extend the life of the network.

Book Survey on Algorithms for Energy Efficient Cluster Head Selection in Wireless Sensor Networks

Download or read book Survey on Algorithms for Energy Efficient Cluster Head Selection in Wireless Sensor Networks written by Y. Suresh and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is a large collection of tiny self-aware, battery-operated, analyzable sensor network which integrates sensing, computation and communication in a single tiny device. These tiny devices can be used for ample number of remote sensing applications. Increasing network life time is one of the major design problems in Wireless Sensor Network as they have limited energy source. Clustering the nodes is one of the effective approaches to minimize energy consumption. Clustering is group of nodes in independent clusters and each cluster comprises of one or more cluster head based on network size. The nodes transmit sensed data to the respective cluster heads which in turn transmit the aggregated data to base station. Clustering algorithms enhance the lifetime of networks by avoiding long distance communication of nodes to base station. In this literature survey, various clustering approaches are discussed with working of few Clustering algorithms and distinguish them based on performance of algorithm.

Book Evaluation of Clustering Parameters in WSN Fields Using Distributed Zone Based Approach

Download or read book Evaluation of Clustering Parameters in WSN Fields Using Distributed Zone Based Approach written by B. Prabhu and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a low-powered network formed by the sensor nodes that finds application in civilian, military, visual sense models, and many others. Improved network lifetime is an important task to be achieved by these sensor networks. In this paper, a methodology for evaluation of clustering efficiency, routing efficiency, energy efficiency, and the lifetime of two dense wireless sensor network fields?using a distributed clustering approach, the hybrid energy efficient clustering algorithm (HEECA)?was proposed, which mainly targeted effectively prolonging the lifetime of wireless sensor networks. It is a well-distributed and energy-efficient clustering algorithm that employs three novel techniques: zone based transmission power (ZBTP), routing using distributed relay nodes (DRNs), and rapid cluster formation (RCF). The proposed scheme was compared with two well-evaluated existing distributed clustering algorithms, O-LEACH and HEED. Simulation results clearly showed an excellent improvement in remaining energy, throughput, routing efficiency, and energy efficiency of the entire wireless sensor system. The clustering process was effectively controlled, thereby the number of cluster heads selection and the number of packets delivered to the base station was also found to be effective. Ultimately, the overall lifetime of the wireless sensor network was improved when compared to the two existing distributed clustering algorithms.
