Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A unique and much-needed perspective on the transitions veterans go through after returning home from war service. It is a difficult time to be a veteran of a small war in the United States. After twenty years of combat and counter-insurgency, a generation of Afghan, Iraq, and Global War on Terror veterans struggle to integrate back into civilian society and lead productive lives. As the wars these men and women have participated in continue—while they simultaneously recede to the past—many feel a sense of estrangement from their country, friends, and prior lives. They often long to return to war but hope to never go again and are stuck in a nether world of war without end and peace that does not exist. In Front toward Enemy: War, Veterans, and the Homefront, Daniel R. Green uses his own experiences with war from having served five military and civilian tours in Afghanistan and Iraq and provides a different perspective on the transition home. Using sociological, philosophical, literary, cultural, historical, and political perspectives he provides a venue for the countless conversations he has had with his fellow veterans about their own experiences as a way to assist others with their transition from war and the military to peace and civilian life. Green provides not just a war veteran’s views but the amplifying perspective of a political scientist—as well as a reserve officer—in order to rescue the issue of the “returning veteran” from the field of psychology and to broaden the understanding of the experience of war for veterans. This book bridges the gap between war veterans and their fellow citizens, sheds light on the quiet conversations that take place among veterans about their experiences, and enriches the collective understanding of how wars affect people.

Book Who is your Enemy Know your real enemies

Download or read book Who is your Enemy Know your real enemies written by MSVPJ Sathvik and published by Blue Hill Publications. This book was released on with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I searched all over Google “How to write an introduction for a novel?” and to be honest I found nothing. So, I have written by opening my heart, every word is written from my heart. I read many books, all books speak about strengths, peace, success, wealth and health too. But I didn’t find any book which speaks on our enemies. We know that half of our time will be spent on thinking about our enemies and tackling them. So, I decided to write a book on enemies. The story starts from childhood to old age explains all the incidents which a common man faces and coming to know all his enemies. The specialties of the book are it helps to find your real enemies, the other specialty is there are tasks which you have to do. This is a novel that is not just a story but some tasks that need to perform. One more specialty is I wrote this book when I was 18 and published it when I was 19. I am hundred percent sure after you read this book, you will never feel that this is a book written by a teenager. This book is written in a very simple language which can be completed in just 1 week. This a book which doesn’t require a dictionary to read, everything is written in simple language. My friends and the publishers read this book in just one week. This is the best book for a beginner to start habituating to reading novels. I didn’t see any book which was written in this simpler language. There might be some books written in simpler language but are very rare. Reading 180 pages of a book may look difficult to complete in one week. You are right but not this book. Don’t keep any doubts in mind just start reading the book. The book may seem boring in middle but has a very good meaning in the story.

It journeys from multiple naval stations on the Baltic Sea to bomb shelters in Berlin and the emergency exodus as the Russian front advanced. Download or read book Enemy in the East written by Rolf-Dieter Müller and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2014-12-03 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Operation Barbarossa, Hitler's invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941, led to one of the most brutal campaigns of World War II: of the estimated 70 million people who died in World War II, over 30 million died on the Eastern Front. Although it has previously been argued that the campaign was a pre-emptive strike, in fact, Hitler had been planning a war of intervention against the USSR ever since he came to power in 1933. Using previously unseen sources, acclaimed military historian Rolf-Dieter Muller shows that Hitler and the Wehrmacht had begun to negotiate with Poland and had even considered an alliance with Japan soon after taking power. Despite the signing of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, at the declaration of war in September 1939, military engagement with the Red Army was still a very real and imminent possibility. In this book, Muller takes us behind the scenes of the Wehrmacht High Command, providing a fascinating insight into an unknown story of World War II.

Book Classical Antiquity in Video Games

Download or read book Classical Antiquity in Video Games written by Christian Rollinger and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2020-01-09 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From gaming consoles to smartphones, video games are everywhere today, including those set in historical times and particularly in the ancient world. This volume explores the varied depictions of the ancient world in video games and demonstrates the potential challenges of games for scholars as well as the applications of game engines for educational and academic purposes. With successful series such as “Assassin's Creed” or "Civilization” selling millions of copies, video games rival even television and cinema in their role in shaping younger audiences' perceptions of the past. Yet classical scholarship, though embracing other popular media as areas of research, has so far largely ignored video games as a vehicle of classical reception. This collection of essays fills this gap with a dedicated study of receptions, remediations and representations of Classical Antiquity across all electronic gaming platforms and genres. It presents cutting-edge research in classics and classical receptions, game studies and archaeogaming, adopting different perspectives and combining papers from scholars, gamers, game developers and historical consultants. In doing so, it delivers the first state-of-the-art account of both the wide array of 'ancient' video games, as well as the challenges and rewards of this new and exciting field.

Book My Dearest Enemy My Dangerous Friend

Download or read book My Dearest Enemy My Dangerous Friend written by Dorothy Rowe and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-05-23 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stories about siblings abound in literature, drama, comedy, biography, and history. We rarely talk about our own siblings without emotion, whether with love and gratitude, or exasperation, bitterness, anger and hate. Nevertheless, the subject of what it is to be and to have a sibling is one that has been ignored by psychiatrists, psychologists and therapists. In My Dearest Enemy, My Dangerous Friend, Dorothy Rowe presents a radically new way of thinking about siblings that unites the many apparently contradictory aspects of these complex relationships. This helps us to recognise the various experiences involved in sibling relationships as a result of the fundamental drive for survival and validation, enabling us to reach a deeper understanding of our siblings and ourselves. If you have a sibling, or you are bringing up siblings, or, as an only child, you want to know what you’re missing, this is the book for you.
