Download or read book Cannabis in nutrition written by Pharmacology University and published by Pharmacology University. This book was released on 2021-11-10 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cannabis sativa is a plant that has lived very near man since ancient times, dating back to thousands of years before Christ. During this time, it has been attributed all kinds of properties: textile, ceremonial, aphrodisiac, medicinal, and even nutritional. The progressive release of restrictions on the research and consumption of cannabis derivatives in more and more countries has opened the door to exploring its multiple properties, including its effect on eating disorders and nutrition. Historical records exist which describe the intake of cannabis in various ancient civilizations. One of the most interesting ones found is from China, where its consumption, as a food, was recurrent during the post-World War II famines. Nowadays, along with the popularization of cannabis the medicinal use, there is a growing movement promoting its consumption or its derivatives as a dietary supplement, due to its beneficial effect on health and well-being in general. Cannabis is also a solid candidate to be incorporated into the culinary world, due to its organoleptic properties: the flavor, aroma, and texture that its incorporation into various recipes can provide. Do you know what nutrition is? It is necessary to answer this question before talking about the nutritional properties of cannabis and how its derivatives could positively influence daily well-being. Likewise, Do you know what is an orexigenic? Because some molecules present in the cannabis plant have properties of this type, it is for this reason that its use has been proposed as an alternative to treat eating disorders. Did you know that the cannabis leaf is rich in certain types of carbohydrates, proteins, and antioxidants? The nutritional properties of the cannabis plant are a topic that is often neglected, overshadowed by the multiple benefits demonstrated by cannabinoids, its main molecules in the medicinal use of the same. Did you know that you can incorporate cannabis into your daily diet by combining it with products such as flour, dairy products, and oils? This is a simple way to include the benefits of cannabinoids in your daily routine, but these preparations are not so easy to make, and their misuse can result in adverse or, for some, unwanted effects. Incorporating cannabis in daily life is a possible practice that can be beneficial. Nonetheless, it is necessary to have the relevant information at hand. With this in mind, the Pharmacology University team has developed this audiobook, in which you can find the answers to the above questions and many others that you may not yet be asking yourself. You will learn about many topics with this audiobook: including basic concepts, such as nutrition, food types, origins of eating disorders, and how cannabis or its derivatives can significantly contribute to their resolution, as well as to the improvement of health in general. In short, now that you have at your disposal the necessary information, supported by scientific evidence, we invite you to explore the many ways in which you can prepare homemade recipes using cannabis, thus casually incorporating it into a daily life oriented to wellness and health.

Download or read book Diabetes Mellitus in Developing Countries and Underserved Communities written by Sam Dagogo-Jack and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-23 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adopting a truly global perspective and a practical approach to diabetes—including pathophysiology, genetics, regional peculiarities, management, prevention and best practices—this book is an excellent resource for clinicians and policy-makers working with patients in more austere settings. The global prevalence of diabetes is estimated to increase from 422 million in 2014 to 592 million in 2035. Sadly, low- and middle-economy countries are projected to experience the steepest increase, but even in developed economies, vulnerable demographic subgroups manifest disparities in diabetes prevalence, quality of care, and outcomes. This book extends coverage to those underserved and minority communities in the developed world. In a consistent chapter format, it discusses classification, pathophysiology, genomics, diagnosis, prevention and management of diabetes in economically challenged regions as well as underserved populations in affluent nations. Suggestions regarding future directions in the organization of diabetes care delivery, prevention and research priorities are also provided. The detailed identification of barriers to optimal care and the practical approach to the management and prevention of diabetes make Diabetes Mellitus in Developing Countries and Underserved Communities a valuable resource for clinicians, researchers and health policy leaders.
Download or read book Olives and Olive Oil in Health and Disease Prevention written by Victor R Preedy and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2010-03-23 with total page 1520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Long used in sacred ceremonies and associated with good health, the nutritional and health promoting benefits of olives and olive oils have been proven by an ever-increasing body of science. From cardiovascular benefits to anti-microbial, anti-cancer, antioxidant activity and effects on macrophages and aptoptosis to cellular and pathophysiollogical process, olives and olive oils are proving important in many healthful ways. For example, reactive components in olive oils or olive oil by-products have now been isolated and identified. These include tyrosol, hydroxytyrosol, 3,4-dihydroxyphenyl acetic acid elenolic acid and oleuropein. Oleic acid is the main monosaturated fatty acid of olive oil. These have putative protective effects and modulate the biochemistry of a variety of cell types including those of the vascular system. Some but not all components have been characterised by their putative pharmacological properties. It is possible that usage of these aforementioned products may have beneficial application in other disease. However, in order for this cross-fertilization to take place, a comprehensive understanding of olives and olive oils is required. Finding this knowledge in a single volume provides a key resource for scientists in a variety of food an nutritional roles. - Explores olives and olive oil from their general aspects to the detailed level of important micro-and micronutrients - Includes coverage of various methodologies for analysis to help scientists and chemists determine the most appropriate option for their own studies, including those of olive-related compounds in other foods - Relates, in a single volume resource, information for food and nutritional chemists, pharmaceutical scientists, nutritionists and dieticians - Presents information in three key categories: General aspects of olives an olive oils; Nutritional, pharmacological and metabolic properties of olives and olive oil; Specific components of olive oil and their effects on tissue and body systems
