Book Is There Still Sex in the City

Download or read book Is There Still Sex in the City written by Candace Bushnell and published by Grove Press. This book was released on 2019-08-06 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Six female friends endure the highs and lows of sex & dating after fifty in this novel by the New York Times–bestselling author of Sex and the City. Set between the Upper East Side of Manhattan and a country enclave known as The Village, Is There Still Sex in the City? follows a cohort of female friends—Sassy, Kitty, Queenie, Tilda Tia, Marilyn, and Candace—as they navigate the ever-modernizing phenomena of midlife dating and relationships. There’s “Cubbing,” in which a sensible older woman suddenly becomes the love interest of a much younger man, the “Mona Lisa” Treatment—a vaginal restorative surgery often recommended to middle aged women, and what it’s really like to go on Tinder dates as a fifty-something divorcee. From the high highs (My New Boyfriend or MNBs) to the low lows (Middle Age Madness, or MAM cycles), Bushnell illustrates with humor and acuity today’s relationship landscape and the types that roam it. Drawing from her own experience, in Is There Still Sex in the City? Bushnell spins a smart, lively satirical story of love and life from all angles—marriage and children, divorce and bereavement, as well as the very real pressures on women to maintain their youth and have it all. This is an indispensable companion to one of the most revolutionary dating books of the twentieth century from one of our most important social commentators. Praise for Is There Still Sex in the City? A Best Book of the Summer at Us Weekly, Elle, Entertainment Weekly, Newsday, andPopSugar “Bushnell’s voice is as knowing and sharp as ever.” —Jancee Dun, Washington Post “A collection of commentaries and recounted hijinks (and lojinks) . . . Sometimes funny, sometimes silly, sometimes quite sad—i.e., an accurate portrait of life in one’s 50s.” —Kirkus Reviews “The effervescent Bushnell still has the ability to make readers laugh with her casually dry one-liners.” —Bookpage “Candace keeps her wits and her wit about her . . . Bushnell is still plenty edgy, funny, and entertaining.” —Booklist

Book The Year that Didn t Exist

    Book Details:
  • Author : Walter Smith
  • Publisher : Austin Macauley Publishers
  • Release : 2023-06-23
  • ISBN : 1685627986
  • Pages : 238 pages

Download or read book The Year that Didn t Exist written by Walter Smith and published by Austin Macauley Publishers. This book was released on 2023-06-23 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Walter’s freshman year at a top Engineering School wasn’t what he had hoped for. Academic success was a given but wasn’t college supposed to be about freedom, drugs and wild sex? This was 1969 after all. But as Walter laments “freshman year was just OK, I somehow missed out on that sex thing.” Walter was hoping sophomore year will be his MVP season. Regrettably it wasn’t, it was a nothing, in fact it was The Year that Didn’t Exist. The story opens with Walter’s big mistake: securing off-campus housing with two roommates he finds intolerable. One chapter details his accidental meeting, and getting stoned with Jane and Tom H. They, activist-celebrities, on their way to a Vietnam protest rally at the Tute, Tom being the keynote speaker. Several chapters are devoted to his introduction and obsession with recreational drugs, pot, hashish, LSD and Ludes. How he meets his first girlfriend, the result of a bet, as to who would score better on a biology test, is thoroughly, but not graphically detailed. And finally, the only real highlight of his meaningless year, teaming up with drug buddy Strappa and winning a collegiate bowling championship, provides a humorous ending to the saga. The Year that Didn’t Exist should strike chords that ring true in almost everyone and hopefully transport the reader back to their college days, days perhaps simpler and likely filled with unbound optimism.

Book Wired for Intimacy

Download or read book Wired for Intimacy written by William M. Struthers and published by ReadHowYouWant.com. This book was released on 2010-02 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pornography is powerful. Our contemporary culture as been pornified, and it shapes our assumptions about identity, sexuality, the value of women and the nature of relationships. Countless Christian men struggle with the addictive power of porn. But common spiritual approaches of more prayer and accountability groups are often of limited help. In this book neuroscientist and researcher William Struthers explains how pornography affects the male brain and what we can do about it. Because we are embodied beings, viewing pornography changes how the brain works, how we form memories and make attachments. By better understanding the biological realities of our sexual development, we can cultivate healthier sexual perspectives and interpersonal relationships. Struthers exposes false assumptions and casts a vision for a redeemed masculinity, showing how our sexual longings can actually propel us toward sanctification and holiness in our bodies. With insights for both married and single men alike, this book offers hope for freedom from pornography.

Book State Power Crime

Download or read book State Power Crime written by Roy Coleman and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2009-10-16 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ′Following the outstanding introduction by the authors there are fifteen excellent original articles devoted to an integrated theory of the relationship between the state and crime. This work is on the cutting edge of critical criminology. It is a must read.′ - William J. Chambliss, Professor of Sociology, The George Washington University, USA. ′This book is a superb compilation of original papers by an impressive roster of authors. While the articles cover a wide range of empirical issues, from Northern Ireland and corporate crime to youth crime and heterosexual hegemony they all explore the implications, strategies and mechanisms of state power. There isn′t a weak paper here: all are extensively documented, well written, persuasive and scholarly in the very best sense.′ - Professor Laureen Snider, Queens University, Canada ′State, Power, Crime is a hugely important book for these times. Bringing together some of the most original minds in criminology it offers a critical analysis of the state, how it constructs crime, responds to it and, at times, engages in the very same. The book is essential reading for anyone interested in justice, freedom and equality.′ - Paddy Rawlinson, London School of Economics Featuring contributions by many of the leading scholars in the field, this seminal text explores the key themes and debates on state power today, in relation to crime and social order. It critically evaluates a range of substantive areas of criminological concern, including terrorism, surveillance, violence and the media. State, Power, Crime provides: "historical overviews of key theories about state power " assessment of the relationship between crime, criminal justice and the state " analysis of the development of law and order policy " discussion of the impact of structural fissures such as gender, race and sexuality " an overview of current research and writing " critical reflection on the future direction of research and analysis " advice on further reading. In 1978, with the publication of Hall et al′s Policing the Crisis and Poulantzas′s State, Power, Socialism, the complexity of the state′s interventions in maintaining a capitalist social order were laid bare for critical criminological analysis. State, Power, Crime offers an up-to-date and comprehensive examination of the challenges posed by state power, in relation to both criminal and social justice.

Book excerpt: I might be a famous rock star, but inside Fork Lick, NY, my biggest fan is a Merino sheep named Baabara. I’ve got a hundred reasons why I’ve avoided my family since graduating high school and never looked back – but when my big sis Colleen makes me an uncle times two, I need to meet her little bacon bits. It’s supposed to be an easy breezy visit – rock the babies, quality time with the sheep, and a nice family argument or three. Then I can get back to rescuing my musical career from the dumpster fire I found it in. Instead, I’m roped into headlining a Fork Lick Festival to save my family’s farm, and conned into sharing a house with bossy Bella Keegan, the famous event planner who I’ve been butting heads with since my first album topped the charts five years ago. Her attitude is louder than my Fender guitar, and she’s got way too many opinions about what I’m supposed to do about this career crisis I’ve been hiding from everyone outside the industry. The longer I spend in this old farmhouse with Bella, the more the lines blur. Until one night, everything changes. Suddenly, we’ve got a decision to make. And no matter which way we write the lyrics, one of us is facing a major fork in the road. Join authors Lainey Davis, Liz Alden, Karen Grey, Erin Mallon, and Ember Leigh as they share un-baa-lievable tales of love, laughter, and sexy shenanigans, all set in the bucolic fictional town of Fork Lick, New York.
