Book excerpt: A RUSA 2007 Outstanding Reference Title The Qur'an is the source of inspiration for one of the world's major religions, followed today by over a billion people. It plays a central role in Islam and ever since it appeared fourteen hundred years ago has been the subject of intense debate. Some of this has been carried out by Muslims and some by those hostile or indifferent to Islam, producing a very wide range of views. Authored by forty-three international experts, the objective of The Qur'an: An Encyclopedia is to present this diversity of thought, approach and school without priority, in order to give a strong appreciation of the range of response that the text has provoked throughout its history and providing students and researchers with a powerful one-volume resource covering all aspects of the text and its reception. Islam and the Qur'an are much in the news today and there is a public debate going on in which things are said about the Qur'an without much knowledge or understanding of the book. Every effort has been made to help the reader use the Encyclopedia as an investigative tool in Quranic studies. The volume assumes no previous knowledge of the Qur'an, Islam or Arabic. Technical terms are explained in the text itself and the style of each entry is designed to be as self-contained as possible. Entries are cross-referenced and many include a brief bibliography. At the end of the work there is a substantial annotated bibliography providing a detailed guide to the most significant books, journals and articles in Qur'anic Studies. There is a full index. The readership will include those seeking basic information on the Qur'an, however the substantial number of longer entries means that it will also be used by specialists.

Book The Meaning of the Holy Qur an

Download or read book The Meaning of the Holy Qur an written by and published by Kube Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2015-08-15 with total page 753 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Qur'an is the inimitable and direct Word of God. It was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad over twenty-three years, who faithfully transmitted it to humanity in the seventh century. Since then the text and meaning of the Qur'an has been preserved, word for word, exactly as it was fourteen hundred years ago. It is a Book of Guidance for all mankind with a central message of God's Oneness. Yet, it has several layers of meaning and beauty that are easily lost in translation. This splendid translation, originally prepared in 1934, aimed to help readers understand the meaning of the Qur'an but also to appreciate its beauty and catch something of the grandeur of the Arabic. This is a compact and revised edition of Abdullah Yusuf Ali's translation of The Meaning of the Holy Qur'an in modern English. It contains the complete translation of the Qur'anic text and retains essential notes of Yusuf Ali's exhaustive commentary on the Qur'an, which enables the reader to gain a better understanding of its message and helps to reveal some of the inexhaustible depth of knowledge it contains. One of the most widely-used and known translations of the Qur'an into modern English, with 472 notes and an introduction. Abdullah Yusuf Ali (1872–1953) was an Indian Islamic scholar. In 1938, Yusuf Ali's translation of the Qur'an was published in Lahore. His translation of the Qur'an is one of the most widely-known and used in the English-speaking world. He died in 1953 in London, United Kingdom.

Book The Holy Quran English Meanings

Download or read book The Holy Quran English Meanings written by and published by . This book was released on 2023-01-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Qur'an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) 1400 years ago. It is the supreme authority in Islam and the source of all Islamic teaching; it is a sacred text and a book of guidance that sets out the creed, rituals, ethics, and laws of the Islamic religion. It has been one of the most influential books in the history of literature. Recognized as the greatest literary masterpiece in Arabic, it has nevertheless remained difficult to understand in its English translations. This is a modern translation that was undertaken by three American women converts to Islam, Emily Assami, Amatullah Bantley and Mary Kennedy. Orginally produced in 1997, this translation of the Holy Qur'an has received wide acclaim and respect for accurately reflecting Arabic meanings. "Simple language and attention to detail have made this a superior English translation" The main objectives that served as guidelines for this translation were: To present correct meanings, as far as possible, in accordance with the Aqeedah of Ahl as-Sunnah wal-Jamaah To simplify and clarify the language for the benefit of all readers To let the Qur'an speak for itself, adding footnotes only where deemed necessary for explanation of points not readily understood or when more than one meaning is acceptable This Edition consists of the English Translated Text only. About the Publisher: - The Noble Quran Encyclopedia is an effort towards providing reliable translations and Exegesis of the Quran in various languages.
