Book excerpt: THE Encyclical of our Holy Father, Pius XI., on the Institution of the Feast of Christ Our King is a fitting crown to the devotion and the vast spiritual awakening which marked the Holy Year, 1925. In fulfilment of the commission of Our Lord to St. Peter, and aided by the light and grace that are given to every man according to his need, the Vicar of Christ addresses words of timely guidance and help to the Catholic world. We need that guidance today. In their greed for wealth, the senseless hurry of business, and the rush for pleasure men forget, then reject, Divine things. Our superficial education, the shallow science and the sensationalism of the newspapers bewilder men's minds. They cannot think steadily and soundly; they are "tossed about by every wind of doctrine." They lose Christ - not from rebellion, but from indifference. Man-made religions and scientific theories come and go like the leaves from spring to winter, and as they pass they leave men more and more confused. Outside the Catholic Church, there is no centre of spiritual authority, no institution that can claim to possess that body of truths which was the legacy of Christ to His Apostles, to be guarded by them for men through all time. There is no other infallible teacher. Man's life must be reasonable, founded on true philosophy. For very many of those who do not recognise the Divine claims of Christ there is a philosophy of life - but it is a destructive philosophy. Its authority is unstable and uncertain, that of a learning which imposes itself on the less learned. It changes as new theories are born, but always leaves greater uncertainty, as it saps the foundations of faith and drives men to religious indifference or to scepticism. Truth is put farther and farther away. Religion, then, and philosophy for such men come to be no more than a collection of words, of hazy definitions, of vague counsels of morality, with no firm foundation. Consequently, the law of sacrifice and the Christian moral code, so clearly stated in the teaching of Our Lord, are rejected, and men accept gladly those theories of conduct only which demand no moral effort and impose no burden of sacrifice. The God of the new philosophies is not real: He is not personal; He does not command. Christ for them is not the Divine Christ, who knew Himself to be God, who loved men, and lived and taught in Galilee with an authority which He claimed as Divine; who confirmed the Divine law and made laws as His own; whose praise and blame are for eternity; whose Kingdom we must enter by the way which He has appointed, through faith, baptism, sacrifice and good works.

Book The Social Rights of Jesus Christ the King

Download or read book The Social Rights of Jesus Christ the King written by Fr Denis Fahey and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-06-30 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written in 1932, and just as pertinent today, Fr. Fahey explains the doctrine of Christ the King, and His rights in and over societies and nations, based upon the teaching of the Church, and in particular the Encyclical Quas Primas. Scripture tells us that "every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord." Christ is not just King of Heaven, He is also King of the Earth, and desires that man establish his societies and nations under His benign rule. Fr. Fahey describes to us what this ideal State should look like, as it follows the program of Christ, as opposed to that of Satan and "organized naturalism."

  • Author : Russell Hittinger
  • Publisher : Open Road Media
  • Release : 2014-05-20
  • ISBN : 1497651441
  • Pages : 294 pages

Download or read book The First Grace written by Russell Hittinger and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2014-05-20 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the book’s first section, Hittinger defines the natural law, considers its proper relationship to moral theology and the positive law, and explains how and when judges should be guided by natural law considerations. Then, in the book’s second section, he contends with a number of controversial legal and cultural issues from a natural law perspective. Among other things, he shows how the modern propensity to make all sorts of “rights claims” undermines the idea of limited government; how the liberal legal culture’s idea of privacy elevates the individual to the status of a sovereign; and how the Supreme Court has come to cast religion as a dangerous phenomenon from which children must be protected. Whether discussing the nature of liberalism, the constitutional and moral problems posed by judicial usurpation, or the dangers of technology, Hittinger convincingly demonstrates that in our post-Christian world it is more crucial than ever that we recover older, wiser notions of the concepts of freedom and law—since to oppose them is to misunderstand both profoundly.

Book A Primer on the Absolute Primacy of Christ

Download or read book A Primer on the Absolute Primacy of Christ written by Maximilian Mary Dean and published by Academy of the Immaculate. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scotus' Teachings on Christ made simple This volume by Fr. Dean, FI is an excellent introductory summary of the well known Franciscan thesis, "The Primacy of Christ." Briefly stated, it is a thesis central to the doctrine and life of the Franciscan Order in particular and that of the Holy Church in general regarding the operation of God in the economy of salvation (Economic Trinity). The thesis stipulates the centraility of Christ in this Trinitarian operation as it presupposes the hierarchized ordering in the motive of the divine will. The uniqueness of this volume is the author's attempt to explain in simple language this theological doctrine for the non-professional theologians.

Book The Kingship of Christ and the Conversion of the Jewish Nation

Download or read book The Kingship of Christ and the Conversion of the Jewish Nation written by Fr Denis Fahey and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-06-23 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this work, Fr. Fahey explains the rights of Christ the King versus organized naturalism which is counter to Christ's rights. Christians are not only called to be holy and spiritual, but also to transform society according to the rules of God so that Christ reigns not only in heaven, but also in everyday society. Fr. Fahey speaks of the role of the Jews against this rule of Christ the King, explains their role in ancient and modern society, and their conversion to Christ the Messias. Modern society is grossly disordered, as any thinking man will readily acknowledge, and it can only be reconstituted by reestablishing the rule of Christ, and His Church, over all parts of society, from the top down. Though written in 1953 it remains timely because the subject matter remains pertinent to our day and age. Father Fahey is the expert on the rights of Christ in society, and a good place to begin to understand what has happened to our society, why, and the solution.

Book The Second Vatican Council and Religious Liberty

Download or read book The Second Vatican Council and Religious Liberty written by Michael Davies and published by . This book was released on 2015-05 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: RIGHT AND WRONG CONCEPTIONS OF RELIGIOUS FREEDOMMichael Davies writes that St. Thomas Aquinas summed up the fundamental principle upon which the traditional Catholic teaching of the Church is based in this quotation from the Angelic Doctor: " Now the end of human life and society is God." From this fact our author draws the conclusion: "The State, therefore, has no right to be "secular." It must, as a State, recognize the Kingship of Jesus Christ and do Him homage; and, of course, so act that there is no contradiction between the laws it passes and the laws of God.BECOME AWARE OF THE RECENT CHANGES IN THE CHURCHThis book deals with the right and wrong conceptions of religious freedom. Special emphasis is placed on the weaknesses and confusions of the (non-infallible) Declaration on Religious Freedom of Vatican II, which contains a number of questionable assertions which have greatly added to the confusion of Catholics and others since it was approved by Vatican II in 1965. This makes The Second Vatican Council and Religious Liberty indispensable for any Catholic who is aware of the recent changes in the Catholic Church.Michael Davies is an author of amazing industry and power. Between the years 1976 and 1983, he published "Cranmer's Godly Order"; a two-volume Apologia Pro Marcel Lefebvre, "about an Archbishop unpopular in his time but with views well worth pondering today;" "Pope John's Council," "Pope Paul's New Mass," "The Order of Melchisedech," on the priesthood, "Partisans of Error," on Modernism, and "Newman Against the Liberals," besides nine pamphlets - all written when he was still quite young, teaching school in England, and supporting a growing family. Today these volumes are as readable and useful as they were then - and uncomfortably prophetic.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this absorbing interview, Bishop Athanasius Schneider offers a candid, incisive examination of controversies raging in the Church and the most pressing issues of our times, providing clarity and hope for beleaguered Catholics. He addresses such topics as widespread doctrinal confusion, the limits of papal authority, the documents of Vatican II, the Society of St. Pius X, anti-Christian ideologies and political threats, the third secret of Fatima, the traditional Roman rite, and the Amazon Synod, among many others. Like his fourth-century patron, St. Athanasius the Great, Bishop Schneider says things that others won’t, fearlessly following St. Paul’s advice: “Preach the word, be urgent in season and out of season, convince, rebuke, and exhort, be unfailing in patience and in teaching” (2 Tim 4:2). His insights into the challenges facing Christ’s flock today are essential reading for those who are, or wish to be, alert to the signs of the times. Reminiscent of The Ratzinger Report of 1985, Christus Vincit will be a key point of reference for years to come.

Book Integralism and the Common Good

Download or read book Integralism and the Common Good written by P. Edmund Waldstein and published by . This book was released on 2021-11-10 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wisdom, in the full sense, is a matter of knowing something that is not subject to political deliberation, that is, the First Principle and Last End of all things. It includes understanding the order of all things from that Principle and to that End-an order that we, as human beings, ought to reflect and embody in our own actions and in our common life in society. The political implications of this truth have been obscured in the modern era by the errors of liberalism, which, granting human reason a false supremacy, makes of man's own deliberation the only measure of the good, even its originator. The result is that every society comes to be seen and treated as a conventional, contractual, artificial, collective egoism. The authors whose writings appear in this volume-most of them first published at The Josias-share the conviction that there is urgent need to combat the errors of liberalism, both in the world and in the Catholic Church itself-for men cannot be truly happy unless their lives are integrated into the greater order that emanates from God. To overcome modern errors, a "broadening of reason" is necessary: we must draw upon the deepest sources of philosophical and theological wisdom, upon the deepest insights of human reason reflecting on the whole breadth of human experience, and upon the supernatural light of Divine Revelation. This first volume of essays treats the main questions of practical philosophy: the principles of human action and the common goods of natural human communities, ranging from the smallest and most fundamental (the household) to the greatest and most encompassing (the political community). The second volume will be devoted to the relations of those natural communities to the supernatural Kingdom established by Christ.
