Book Magic and Sex

Download or read book Magic and Sex written by Hermes Astrology and published by Hermes Astrology. This book was released on 2024-05-14 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The intertwining of magic and sexuality has long been a source of fascination, intrigue, and controversy across cultures and throughout history. This book delves into the complex relationship between magic and sex, exploring how these two primal forces intersect, influence each other, and shape human experience. Drawing upon a multidisciplinary approach that incorporates insights from anthropology, psychology, folklore, and esoteric traditions, this book seeks to unravel the mysteries surrounding the enchantment of desire. It examines the role of magic in shaping sexual practices, beliefs, and taboos, as well as its impact on individual and collective perceptions of eroticism, intimacy, and power dynamics. Through an exploration of mythological narratives, historical accounts, and contemporary practices, this book illuminates the ways in which magic has been used to enhance sexual pleasure, attract partners, and navigate the complexities of romantic relationships. It also delves into the darker aspects of magical sexuality, including the use of love spells, aphrodisiacs, and sexual rituals for manipulation, control, and exploitation. Furthermore, this book investigates the psychological and spiritual dimensions of sexual magic, examining its potential for personal transformation, healing, and transcendence. It explores the concept of sexual energy as a potent force for creativity, spiritual awakening, and the cultivation of ecstatic states of consciousness. Finally, this book reflects on the ethical considerations and moral implications surrounding the practice of sexual magic, addressing issues of consent, boundaries, and the responsible use of power. It calls for a nuanced and holistic understanding of the intersection of magic and sexuality, one that recognizes both the potential for liberation and empowerment, as well as the risks of exploitation and harm.

  • Pages : 289 pages

Download or read book Enchanted Objects written by Allan Hepburn and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enchanted Objects investigates the relationship between visual art and contemporary fiction, addressing the problems that arise when paintings, deluxe books, porcelains, or statues are represented in contemporary novels. The distinction between objects and art objects depends on aesthetics. While some objects are authenticated through museum exhibits, others are hidden, broken, neglected, coveted, hoarded, or salvaged. Allan Hepburn asks four broad questions about aesthetics and value: What is a detail in visual art? Is all art ornamental? Does the value of an object increase because it is fragile? What defines ugliness? Contemporary novels, such as Tracy Chevalier's Girl with a Pearl Earring, Barry Unsworth's Stone Virgin, and Bruce Chatwin's Utz offer implicit answers to these questions while critiquing museums and the determination to invest objects with value through display. Addressing current debates in museum studies, cultural studies, art history, and literary criticism, Enchanted Objects develops an extensive theory of how contemporary literature engages with and relates to aesthetic objects.

Download or read book Lovers Bible written by Dr. DreamingBear Baraka Kanaan and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2017-08-18 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lovers Bible is an ode to being a lover as a way of life, seeking the beloved in everything, and having the audacity to make out with existence every chance you get so as to give the multiverse cosmic goose bumps! Part guide to being a lover and part poetic prophecy, this volume is potency incarnate. Infused with the mana of the Hawaiian Islands, these passages reflect the spiritual connection to the aina (life force) of this new Eden oasis. Inspired by and written amongst Hawaiian fairy forests and enchanted tropical dreams, Lovers Bible merges in the center, with half being day and half being night, a metaphor for the lover and beloved playing the eternal game of hide-and-seek kiss-tag. Sacred and profane eroticism decorate the pages, and tenderly offered inamorato philosophy flowers in the fodder of this seductive verse. Its not for the faint of heart, and sacred sensual scriptures emerge from this incantation of passion and playfulness, beckoning the initiate to awaken to the power inherent within, declaring, For God so loved the world that she formed Creation with a kiss. Beyond religions, belief systems, or concepts of any kind, there is the deepest truth of being human, which is tenderness with an edge. Lovers Bible is a manuscript for those who find more holiness in a single sweet embrace than in all the shrines and semantics of the world. The lovers path, the beauty way, is embedded in nature. Hidden in every leaf, rock, river, and creature is a kiss from Creation, saying, Come play!

Book Enchantment

    Book Details:
  • Author : C. Stephen Jaeger
  • Publisher : University of Pennsylvania Press
  • Release : 2012-03-19
  • ISBN : 0812206525
  • Pages : 436 pages

Download or read book Enchantment written by C. Stephen Jaeger and published by University of Pennsylvania Press. This book was released on 2012-03-19 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the force in art, C. Stephen Jaeger asks, that can enter our consciousness, inspire admiration or imitation, and carry a reader or viewer from the world as it is to a world more sublime? We have long recognized the power of individuals to lead or enchant by the force of personal charisma—and indeed, in his award-winning Envy of Angels, Jaeger himself brilliantly parsed the ability of charismatic teachers to shape the world of medieval learning. In Enchantment, he turns his attention to a sweeping and multifaceted exploration of the charisma not of individuals but of art. For Jaeger, the charisma of the visual arts, literature, and film functions by creating an exalted semblance of life, a realm of beauty, sublime emotions, heroic motives and deeds, godlike bodies and actions, and superhuman abilities, so as to dazzle the humbled spectator and lift him or her up into the place so represented. Charismatic art makes us want to live in the higher world that it depicts, to behave like its heroes and heroines, and to think and act according to their values. It temporarily weakens individual will and rational critical thought. It brings us into a state of enchantment. Ranging widely across periods and genres, Enchantment investigates the charismatic effect of an ancient statue of Apollo on the poet Rilke, of the painter Dürer's self-portrayal as a figure of Christ-like magnificence, of a numinous Odysseus washed ashore on Phaeacia, and of the black-and-white projection of Fred Astaire dancing across the Depression-era movie screen. From the tattoos on the face of a Maori tribesman to the haunting visage of Charlotte Rampling in a film by Woody Allen, Jaeger's extraordinary book explores the dichotomies of reality and illusion, life and art that are fundamental to both cultic and aesthetic experience.

  • Author : Paul Copp
  • Publisher : Columbia University Press
  • Release : 2014-09-09

Download or read book The Body Incantatory written by Paul Copp and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2014-09-09 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether chanted as devotional prayers, intoned against the dangers of the wilds, or invoked to heal the sick and bring ease to the dead, incantations were pervasive features of Buddhist practice in late medieval China (600Ð1000 C.E.). Material incantations, in forms such as spell-inscribed amulets and stone pillars, were also central to the spiritual lives of both monks and laypeople. In centering its analysis on the Chinese material culture of these deeply embodied forms of Buddhist ritual, The Body Incantatory reveals histories of practiceÑand logics of practiceÑthat have until now remained hidden. Paul Copp examines inscribed stones, urns, and other objects unearthed from anonymous tombs; spells carved into pillars near mountain temples; and manuscripts and prints from both tombs and the Dunhuang cache. Focusing on two major Buddhist spells, or dharani, and their embodiment of the incantatory logics of adornment and unction, he makes breakthrough claims about the significance of Buddhist incantation practice not only in medieval China but also in Central Asia and India. His work vividly captures the diversity of Buddhist practice among medieval monks, ritual healers, and other individuals lost to history, offering a corrective to accounts that have overemphasized elite, canonical materials.

Book excerpt: Elaborating the history, variety, pervasiveness, and function of the adornments and ornaments with which we beautify ourselves, this book takes in human prehistory, ancient civilizations, hunter-foragers, and present-day industrial societies to tell a captivating story of hair, skin, and make-up practices across times and cultures. From the decline of the hat, the function of jewelry and popularity of tattooing to the wealth of grave goods found in the Upper Paleolithic burials and body painting of the Nuba, we see that there is no one who does not adorn themselves, their possessions, or their environment. But what messages do these adornments send? Drawing on aesthetics, evolutionary history, archaeology, ethology, anthropology, psychology, cultural history, and gender studies, Stephen Davies brings together African, Australian and North and South American indigenous cultures and unites them around the theme of adornment. He shows us that adorning is one of the few social behaviors that is close to being genuinely universal, more typical and extensive than the high-minded activities we prefer to think of as marking our species religion, morality, and art.
