Book The Vanishing Evangelical

Download or read book The Vanishing Evangelical written by Calvin Miller and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2013-09-15 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evangelicalism faces an uncertain future. In this book, written just before his death, Calvin Miller takes a critical and prophetic look at the movement he loved, believing we can only shape the future if we understand the present. American evangelicalism, he warns, has largely adapted to the culture and as a result, is waning in its vitality and influence. Rather than counting on some grand revival, Miller writes that revitalizing the heart of evangelical Christianity will instead happen one person at a time. The Vanishing Evangelical looks at the broad cultural influences that are shaping the whole movement, and Miller's sage counsel challenges the reader to confront these forces personally and take steps toward a personal, vital spirituality.

No one could blame him for despising her, yet Duncan’s misgivings cannot withstand a desire that has grown wilder with time. Now, on a perilous journey through Scotland, two wary lovers must confront both the enemies who will stop at nothing to hunt them down, and the secret legacy that threatens their passion and their lives… “Former lovers find each other again in book two of Cosby’s Scottish trilogy. She deftly combines historical accuracy, well-rounded characters and continuous action in this sweeping romance, which should keep readers engaged until the last page.”—Romantic Times

Dark secrets. When a woman goes missing, the suspicion falls on Agatha, turning her life upside down. The new detective in town, Remington Cumberbatch, has seen a lot of weird things as a detective in nearby Cannes, California, but he’s in for a surprise with Agatha, her family, and the quirky town of Sea Breeze. He begins to investigate Agatha as the number one suspect, but the attraction is immediate. When the missing woman turns out to be murdered, the mystery deepens, and Agatha must help Remington find the killer before she winds up in prison…or worse. The Fear Hunter is the first installment of the Agatha Bright Mysteries, a funny, romantic, small town cozy mystery series with a touch of magic. It is a spin-off series of the Matchmaker Mysteries and the Goodnight Mysteries with some characters from both. Some Like It Shot: Agatha’s relationship with Remington is complicated. Very complicated. As she tries to navigate it, she’s also investigating her Auntie Prudence’s mysterious death. Meanwhile, business at the soup shop is booming. With a dispensary opened next door and a new delivery app in town, Agatha can’t make soup fast enough to meet the demand. When a taco-eating contest gives her a much-needed respite, Agatha is delighted. But the contest ends abruptly with the winner’s death, and now Agatha must put everything on the back burner to find the killer with Remington before he strikes again. Some Like It Shot is the second installment of the Agatha Bright Mysteries, a funny, romantic, small town cozy mystery series with a touch of magic. In fact, life is going smoothly in Sea Breeze. The lifeguard tower is getting rebuilt, and the ocean’s water quality has even improved. Agatha’s friend Amy has become an Influencer, and Frances has a booming new career as the owner of a Porta Potty business. But when John has to fulfill Remington’s MMA fighting contract, he finds himself in the cage with a killer MMA star. Blood flows in the octagon, but not as much as backstage when a body is discovered. The victim has been beaten to death, and all of the clues point to John AKA Remington as the killer. Agatha Bright has to prove his innocence, or this ghost will wind up dead for the second time. Beast of Eden: Agatha Bright has got big problems. Vampire problems. The coven has sent Vlad the vampire to Sea Breeze to investigate Remington’s possession by the man that Agatha has loved her entire life. Meanwhile, Agatha is hired to do her very own investigation. When body parts at the local morgue go missing, the morgue attendant asks Agatha to solve the mystery of the murdered man. The mystery takes her to the local farm where chickens wear pedometers to prove that they’re free range and the farm’s owner has a meditation habit and a vicious temper. Suspects pile up, but Agatha is forced to focus on Vlad and his threats to send John away into oblivion. Can Agatha and her aunts thwart Vlad and the coven so that Agatha can have her happy ending? Book excerpt: Llwddawanden is a hidden sanctuary where remnants of a once-powerful pagan cult carry on their ancient ritual practices, supported by a small but faithful following of servants, craftsmen, and laborers. Cut off from the outside world by both geography and conviction, the Druids of Llwddawanden continue to venerate the Great Mother Goddess and to view themselves as the first-born and favorite of Her mortal children. While the belief that the most important of all divine beings gave birth to their ancestors and that Her spirit inhabits the body of their highest priestess is a tenuous conclusion in view of their reduced lot in life, the Druids of Llwddawanden believe it and are, for the most part, committed to carrying on the traditions handed down to them by their forbears. Herrwn, the shine’s chief priest and master bard, has the responsibility of overseeing the education of Caelym, the orphaned son of the cult’s previous chief priestess, as well as keeping the peace within the upper ranks of their order—two tasks that grow more difficult as the rivalry over which of the three highest priests will claim Caelym as his disciple grows, and as mounting conflicts between the current chief priestess and her only living daughter threaten to rend the fabric of a society that has endured for more than a millennium.
