Download or read book Home and Work written by Christena E. Nippert-Eng and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2008-07-22 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you put family photos on your desk at work? Are your home and work keys on the same chain? Do you keep one all-purpose calendar for listing home and work events? Do you have separate telephone books for colleagues and friends? In Home and Work, Christena Nippert-Eng examines the intricacies and implications of how we draw the line between home and work. Arguing that relationships between the two realms range from those that are highly "integrating" to those that are highly "segmenting," Nippert-Eng examines the ways people sculpt the boundaries between home and work. With remarkable sensitivity to the symbolic value of objects and actions, Nippert-Eng explores the meaning of clothing, wallets, lunches and vacations, and the places and ways in which we engage our family, friends, and co-workers. Commuting habits are also revealing, showing how we make the transition between home and work selves though ritualized behavior like hellos and goodbyes, the consumption of food, the way we dress, our choices of routes to and from work, and our listening, working, and sleeping habits during these journeys. The ways each of us manages time, space, and people not only reflect but reinforce lives that are more "integrating" or "segmenting" at any given time. In clarifying what we take for granted, this book will leave you thinking in different ways about your life and work.

Book Organization Management Dynamic Creative Team Coordination

Download or read book Organization Management Dynamic Creative Team Coordination written by Stavros Georgiades and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book, through an in-depth process study of the interactions of two creative groups (film production crew) in temporary organizations during two media projects, explores how a team developmental process unfolds and proposes a model illustrating how the groups repeatedly change formation so that individuals can manage job interdependencies and new issues arising while developing, building up, and synthesizing new ideas into a final creative solution. This theory on creative group dynamic coordination builds theory on how and why creative groups coordinate, challenges assumptions about the role of formal structures and informal practices by demonstrating how the two dynamically interact and complement each other to facilitate coordination via the emergence of what one would expect to be “un-coordinated methods”, and provides an alternative perspective to the stages the groups have to go through by emphasizing a cyclical and not a linear team developmental process. About the author Stavros Georgiades is Professor W2 of Management at the Stuttgart Media University (Visiting Post), Assistant Professor of Management at Frederick University, a research collaborator of the University of Digital Sciences Berlin and the founder of the Anagnorisis Institute of Media Management (AIMM). He holds a PhD in Management from the Henley Business School, University of Reading, UK. His research focuses on media employee engagement and creativity, team coordination and adaptation in media settings, and digital entrepreneurship.

Book Electric Cooperative Managers Strategies to Enhance Organizational Commitment to Increase Employee Productivity

Download or read book Electric Cooperative Managers Strategies to Enhance Organizational Commitment to Increase Employee Productivity written by Michael Edward White and published by Dissertation.com. This book was released on 2022-05-01 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lack of effective leadership strategies contributes to a reduction in employee engagement and productivity. Managers are concerned about the lack of effective leadership strategies because it negatively affects employee engagement and productivity, reducing organizational growth. Grounded in Bass’s transformational leadership theory, the purpose of this qualitative single case study was to explore effective leadership strategies used to enhance employee engagement and increase productivity. Five managers from an electric cooperative in Northwest Florida who implemented effective leadership strategies participated in the study. Data were collected using semistructured interviews and a review of organizational documents. Data were analyzed using Yin’s five-step approach. The four emergent themes were teamwork, encouragement, leading by example, and rewards. A key recommendation is for business leaders to provide frequent, honest feedback, coach when needed, and provide appropriate training, allowing to succeed in a conducive environment. By nurturing and seeking advice from subordinates, managers show employees they are valued and contribute to the organization. The implications for positive social change include the potential for managers to create a safe, comfortable environment that improves social conditions by promoting their subordinates' worth, dignity, and development.
