Book Emission Measurements During Incineration of Waste Containing Bromine

Download or read book Emission Measurements During Incineration of Waste Containing Bromine written by and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2005 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the results from an investigation of the emissions of dioxin-compounds that may occur from incineration of plastic waste containing brominated flame retardants (BFRs) together with waste from households and the commercial sector. The decomposition of BFRs was also investigated. The most common use for BFRs is in building materials, textiles and electronic supplies, e.g. TVs, PCs and photocopiers. In incineration plants with good combustion BFRs will decompose and form other brominated compounds, mainly hydrogen bromide (HBr). In addition, other brominated compounds will also be formed, in particular brominated organic compounds, such as dioxins where chlorine is fully or partly substituted by bromine (brominated and brominated/chlorinated dioxins). The project results presented in this report serve as a basis for authorities and the owners of incineration plants, to make decisions about whether, and under what conditions, this type of waste may be incinerated. The project was financed by the PA-group under the Nordic Council of Ministers.

Book Waste Incineration and Public Health

Download or read book Waste Incineration and Public Health written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2000-10-21 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Incineration has been used widely for waste disposal, including household, hazardous, and medical wasteâ€"but there is increasing public concern over the benefits of combusting the waste versus the health risk from pollutants emitted during combustion. Waste Incineration and Public Health informs the emerging debate with the most up-to-date information available on incineration, pollution, and human healthâ€"along with expert conclusions and recommendations for further research and improvement of such areas as risk communication. The committee provides details on: Processes involved in incineration and how contaminants are released. Environmental dynamics of contaminants and routes of human exposure. Tools and approaches for assessing possible human health effects. Scientific concerns pertinent to future regulatory actions. The book also examines some of the social, psychological, and economic factors that affect the communities where incineration takes place and addresses the problem of uncertainty and variation in predicting the health effects of incineration processes.

Book Green Supply Chain Management

Download or read book Green Supply Chain Management written by Charisios Achillas and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-31 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, one of the top priorities of an organization’s modern corporate strategy is to portray itself as socially responsible and environmentally sustainable. As a focal point of sustainability initiatives, green supply chain management has emerged as a key strategy that can provide competitive advantages with significant parallel gains for company profitability. In designing a green supply chain, the intent is the adoption of comprehensive and cross-business sustainability principles, from the product conception stage to the end-of-life stage. In this context, green initiatives relate to tangible and intangible corporate benefits. Sustainability reports from numerous companies reveal that greening their supply chains has helped reduce operating cost, thus boosting effectiveness and efficiency while increasing sustainability of the business. Green Supply Chain Management provides a strategic overview of sustainable supply chain management, shedding light on the theoretical background and key principles of the topic. Specifically, this book covers various thematic areas including benefits and impact of green supply chain management; enablers and barriers on supply chain operations; inbound and outbound logistics considerations; and production, packaging and reverse logistics under the notion of "greening". The ultimate aim of this textbook is to highlight the challenges in the implementation of green supply chain management in modern companies and to provide a roadmap for decision-making in real-life cases. Combining chapter summaries and discussion questions, this book provides an accessible and student-friendly introduction to green supply change management and will be of great interest to students, scholars and practitioners in the fields of sustainable business and supply chain management.

Book Multiphase Flow Handbook

Download or read book Multiphase Flow Handbook written by Clayton T. Crowe and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2005-09-19 with total page 1146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because of the importance of multiphase flows in a wide variety of industries, including power, petroleum, and numerous processing industries, an understanding of the behavior and underlying theoretical concepts of these systems is critical. Contributed by a team of prominent experts led by a specialist with more than thirty years of experience, the Multiphase Flow Handbook provides such an understanding, and much more. It covers all aspects of multiphase flows, from fundamentals to numerical methods and instrumentation. The book begins with an introduction to the fundamentals of particle/fluid/bubble interactions followed by gas/liquid flows and methods for calculating system parameters. It includes up-to-date information on practical industrial applications such as boiling and condensation, fluidized beds, aerosols, separation systems, pollution control, granular and porous media flow, pneumatic and slurry transport, and sprays. Coverage then turns to the most recent information on particle/droplet-fluid interactions, with a chapter devoted to microgravity and microscale flows and another on basic multiphase interactions. Rounding out the presentation, the authors discuss numerical methods, state-of-the art instrumentation, and advanced experimental techniques. Supplying up-to-date, authoritative information on all aspects of multiphase flows along with numerous problems and examples, the Multiphase Flow Handbook is the most complete reference available for understanding the flow of multiphase mixtures.
