Book Comparing Safety of Helicopters and Ground Emergency Medical Services for Patient Transport

Download or read book Comparing Safety of Helicopters and Ground Emergency Medical Services for Patient Transport written by Sibgha Amin and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emergency medical services (EMS) are a safe method of transporting patients from their injury site to the nearest hospital. Many conditions determine the safety of the patients during their travels. Previous research on EMS includes risks and benefits of ambulances and helicopters, but few studies compare these services' safety. This study compares the safety of ambulance and helicopter emergency medical services in the United States between 2000-2019. With this information, EMT personnel can make informed decisions on the best mode of transportation. Generating queries from the National Transportation Safety Board and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, data of fatalities and injuries among passengers affected during travel were collected. Based on the data, individuals travelling via ambulances were unaffected. Those affected from ambulance related crashes suffered more from injuries, rather than death. For the helicopter EMS, there were more deaths than injuries among passengers. Quantitatively, more patients were affected in ambulance-related crashes than helicopters. The high number of passengers affected is due to the availability of ambulances for emergencies. A straightforward comparison cannot be drawn at this time. The data must be quantified to a specific injury and accident rate to determine which transportation mode is the safest.

Book Medical Response to Major Incidents and Disasters

Download or read book Medical Response to Major Incidents and Disasters written by Sten Lennquist and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-01-03 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, written by members of the core faculty responsible for European courses on Medical Response to Major Incidents (MRMI), is a practical guide for all medical staff on how to respond to a wide range of disaster scenarios. The entire spectrum of knowledge is covered, from command and coordination through to the management of individual casualties. Central importance is attached to the key component of decision making by explaining what needs to be done for patients in particular situations and the required order and timing of treatment measures. Simplified methods receive due attention, as it is often necessary for medical staff to administer primary treatment outside of their own specialty. This book will prove an invaluable aid to all who may be involved in the response to major accidents and disasters, including medical and nursing students, ambulance crew, and military personnel as well as medical specialists.
