What if we are ruled by a lie more than the truth about who we are? What if condemnation has been their primary motivation, and has functioned for us more than grace, for too many years? What if, on the front end, we already have what we try so hard to obtain? Dr. Bob Smart walks us through the practical steps to embrace our true identity in Christ by helping us embrace our glory, gender, story, acceptance, sonship, and more by renouncing lies, condemning thoughts, and foolish strategies.

Book Still Time to Care

  • Publisher : Zondervan

Download or read book Still Time to Care written by Greg Johnson and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2021-12-07 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the start of the gay rights movement in 1969, evangelicalism's leading voices cast a vision for gay people who turn to Jesus. It was C.S. Lewis, Billy Graham, Francis Schaeffer and John Stott who were among the most respected leaders within theologically orthodox Protestantism. We see with them a positive pastoral approach toward gay people, an approach that viewed homosexuality as a fallen condition experienced by some Christians who needed care more than cure. With the birth and rise of the ex-gay movement, the focus shifted from care to cure. As a result, there are an estimated 700,000 people alive today who underwent conversion therapy in the United States alone. Many of these patients were treated by faith-based, testimony-driven parachurch ministries centered on the ex-gay script. Despite the best of intentions, the movement ended with very troubling results. Yet the ex-gay movement died not because it had the wrong sex ethic. It died because it was founded on a practice that diminished the beauty of the gospel. Yet even after the closure of the ex-gay umbrella organization Exodus International in 2013, the ex-gay script continues to walk about as the undead among us, pressuring people like me to say, "I used to be gay, but I'm not gay anymore. Now I'm just same-sex attracted." For orthodox Christians, the way forward is a path back to where we were forty years ago. It is time again to focus with our Neo-Evangelical fathers on care--not cure--for our non-straight sisters and brothers who are living lives of costly obedience to Jesus. With warmth and humor as well as original research, Still Time to Care will chart the path forward for our churches and ministries in providing care. It will provide guidance for the gay person who hears the gospel and finds themselves smitten by the life-giving call of Jesus. Woven throughout the book will be Richard Lovelace’s 1978 call for a "double repentance" in which gay Christians repent of their homosexual sins and the church repents of its homophobia--putting on display for all the power of the gospel.

Book Embrace Your Identity in Christ

Download or read book Embrace Your Identity in Christ written by Niyi Olujobi and published by Elm Hill. This book was released on 2020-03-31 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings to light how the Father sees us with scriptural references and how we are to respond to the Father’s heart for us. This book takes us from just embracing who we are in Him to assuming the responsibility of a son based on love and not necessarily duty. The revelation of our identity in Christ should be the foundation of all discipleship program for new believers in Christ and one of the key steps in ministering to those who are students of inner healing and the basis of follow-up after freedom sessions with people. The concept and revelation of our identity in Christ is crucial in developing a proper relationship with God our Father. Jesus came to model sonship. The first Adam (also known as a son of God), we never knew him when he was without sin and hence, cannot model on him however the last Adam came (known as the Son of God), we knew Him without sin and He modelled sonship in all forms that He might become our perfect example of what a son should look like. Based on our identity in Christ and our maturity in the same, we can now assume the responsibility of sonship. In the natural, the level of maturity of a son will determine the level of responsibility given to that son. The same is applicable in the kingdom of God. Your level of maturity in your sonship will determine the level of responsibility the Father can commit to you. This book is not just about affirming our identity in Christ but also challenges us on the responsibility of sonship. This book empowers you to overcome the works of darkness. 1 John 3:8 talks of the Son of God was manifested to destroy the works of the devil and as you assume and embrace your sonship, you will equally do the same, that is, destroy the works of the devil in your daily life. The world is waiting for the manifestation of the sons of God. It is time to arise into what God has made you to be. I celebrate the you that emerges after absorbing the truth of God that comes from the words in this book. May this book enable you live the victorious life you have been designed to live; may it enable you rise up to purpose and destiny in the kingdom of God and may it create a ripple effect on all those in whom you come in contact with.

Book excerpt: GodÕs love for us breaks every boundary. So should our love for each other. Mihee Kim-Kort is a wife, a mom, and a Presbyterian minister. And she's queer. As she became aware of her queer sexuality, Mihee wondered what that meant for her spirituality. But instead of pushing her away from God, her queerness has brought her closer to Jesus and taught her how to love better. In Outside the Lines, Mihee shows us how God, in Jesus, is oriented toward us in a queer and radical way. Through the life, work, and witness of Jesus, we see a God who loves us with a queer love. And our faith in that God becomes a queer spirituality--a spirituality that crashes through definitions and moves us outside of the categories of our making. Whenever we love ourselves and our neighbors with the boundary-breaking love of God, we live out this queer spirituality in the world. With a captivating mix of personal story and biblical analysis, Outside the LinesÊshows us how each of our bodies fits into the body of Christ. Outside the lines and without exceptions.

Hundreds of passages speak to this foundational truth, yet we have somehow relegated them to antiquity. In sharing her own compelling story of facing her worst fear, Katie serves up theological truth with relatable application. In this book, you will · discover a fresh take on an old truth that displaces fear once and for all · understand why the culture's idea of "fearlessness" is a farce · access the holy courage you were made for With this new knowledge comes tremendous freedom. Book Claim Your Crown

Download or read book Claim Your Crown written by Tarah-Lynn Saint-Elien and published by Revell. This book was released on 2020-02-04 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Young women are deeply dissatisfied with society's standards (and double standards). They want more for themselves--but sometimes they don't quite know what that more should be. That's where Miss Black New Jersey 2018 and Teen Vogue "It Girl" turned fashion writer Tarah-Lynn Saint-Elien comes in. Through her insightful comments on media, pop culture, and pervading cultural myths about beauty, fashion, and womanhood, Tarah-Lynn dismantles the messages that feed into the insecurities, fears, doubts, and guilt that young women experience today. She introduces them to an understanding of God as a loving Father and the King of all kings, who bestows upon his daughters a crown of love, worth, and power. And she shows them how to not only claim the promises of God but also walk purposefully in them as independent women (no prince necessary!) who respond to adversity with righteousness and authority.
