Download or read book Walking Through Fire written by Vaneetha Rendall Risner and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2021-01-19 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The astonishing, Job-like story of how an existence filled with loss, suffering, questioning, and anger became a life filled with shocking and incomprehensible peace and joy. Vaneetha Risner contracted polio as an infant, was misdiagnosed, and lived with widespread paralysis. She lived in and out of the hospital for ten years and, after each stay, would return to a life filled with bullying. When she became a Christian, though, she thought things would get easier, and they did: carefree college days, a dream job in Boston, and an MBA from Stanford where she met and married a classmate. But life unraveled. Again. She had four miscarriages. Her son died because of a doctor's mistake. And Vaneetha was diagnosed with post-polio syndrome, meaning she would likely become a quadriplegic. And then her husband betrayed her and moved out, leaving her to raise two adolescent daughters alone. This was not the abundant life she thought God had promised her. But, as Vaneetha discovered, everything she experienced was designed to draw her closer to Christ as she discovered "that intimacy with God in suffering can be breathtakingly beautiful."
Download or read book Embracing Life Again After the Death of a Spouse written by Dr Anniekie Ravhudzulo and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-01-12 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When someone we love dies, our whole world is knocked off balance. One of the most common and yet difficult feelings you experience is isolation. It seems no one understands what you are going through. And many of us are so busy, you dont take the time to fully grieve and, therefore, heal from your losses. It is very true that people who are grieving often feel extremely tired because the process of grieving usually requires physical and emotional energy. The grief you are feeling is not just for the person who died, but also for the unfulfilled wishes and plans for the relationship with the person. Death often reminds most of the people of past losses or separations. Remember, there are a number of conditions that can make it harder for you as a person to successfully make it through the grief process. For example, sudden losses are harder to deal with than ones that have been anticipated. With anticipated losses, the knowledge that a loss will occur allows people to prepare, both by feeling grief before the fact of the loss and also by planning ways to minimize the negative impact of the loss when it does occur. The loss of a spouse, lover, child, parent, or best friend is usually more deeply felt than the loss of more distant relations and friends. This is because such central relationships have long and deeply felt histories and an intensity of attachment that does not occur with more distant relationships. Central relationships are more deeply and significantly knitted into the grieving persons sense of self, and thus leave a bigger hole in the grieving persons sense of self when they are lost. I discovered that when things are going badly, whether in the family or work environment, most of us strive mightily to improve our situations. But what if the way to overcome a series of losses and failures is just to sink into them? We all go through trials and tribulations. Everyone has difficult situations in their life. It is the way we look at them, and the way we handle those situations. I believe it is the struggle we must endure to gain the strength needed to break through the barriers. With every victory comes the strength we need to overcome the obstacles and move forward. Most people today give up easily because of what you may call emotional downturn. This book in your hand has been written and carefully thought out with you in mind. It has been written to bring you out of your sociological pit and emotional defeat. I therefore gladly recommend this book to your reading that you may be built in His grace. I believe that God will never give you more than you can handle. You often wonder how some people cope with their situations in life, I often hear people saying, IdontthinkIcoulddealwiththat but we dont know what strength lies within us, until the time comes to face the challenge. The harder the struggle, the sweeter the victoryNo test, no rewards.

Download or read book Embracing Hopelessness written by Miguel A. De La Torre and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2017-10-01 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will attempt to explore faith-based responses to unending injustices by embracing the reality of hopelessness. It rejects the pontifications of some salvation history that move the faithful toward an eschatological promise that, when looking back at history, makes sense of all Christian-led brutalities, mayhem, and carnage. To embrace hopelessness moves away from a middle-class privilege that assumes all is going to work out in the end. By upsetting the norm, an opportunity might arise that can lead us to a more just situation, although such acts of defiance usually lead to crucifixion. Hopelessness is what leads to radical liberative praxis.
Download or read book The Life and Times of Walter Reuther written by James TenEyck and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2016-06-03 with total page 566 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Life and Times of Walter Reuther: An Unfinished Liberal Legacy recounts the events and social movements that have shaped modern America and examines Reuther’s involvement in them. For over thirty years, Walter Reuther and his United Automobile Workers union were in the vanguard of voices advancing liberal economic and social policies that raised the standard of living for many Americans, extended the protection of the law, and provided a measure of security for the aged, infirm, disabled, and unemployed. In the narrative, Reuther serves as the lens through which a period of labor advances, civil rights struggle, and hot and cold wars are viewed from a liberal perspective. The book follows Walter and Victor Reuther on their European adventure to their ancestral homeland during the rise of Hitler and into the Gorky autoworks factory in Soviet Russia. The pair returned home to the labor battles in Flint and Dearborn that established a UAW presence in the factories and brought Walter Reuther to the bargaining table to negotiate the agreements that served as the treaty between labor and management for over two decades. Reuther’s story includes assassination attempts, confrontations with Senator Goldwater and Nikita Khrushchev, and a presence on the world stage and on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial when Martin Luther King recounted his dream. In the later chapters, the book looks beyond the life of the man and the events of his time and seeks to advance a liberal legacy that recently has been relentlessly attacked and too timidly defended.

Download or read book Holy Embrace written by Mario Brelich and published by Northwestern University Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Pursuing and expanding the concept of the "novelized essay" that had served him so well in Navigator of the Flood, his first venture into writing, Brelich here takes up the biblical story of Abraham and Sarah. After the long quiescent interval succeeding the Flood, Abraham, repudiating the idols worshipped by his forebears, "discovers" God - which is to say that the Lord once again takes an interest in human affairs, settling upon another willing but divided patriarch as the instrument for procreating His chosen people. It is Abraham's servile infatuation with his frigid and narcissistic wife Sarah - "the most beautiful woman in the world" - that poses the greatest stumbling block to the Lord's designs. But this is also the story of a long and painful marriage between two mutually exasperating people. How the miracle of the "holy embrace" is finally accomplished - that is, how their son Isaac (whose name means "Laughter") is conceived in accordance with God's command - forms the substance of this profound and witty book." --Book Jacket.

Download or read book Success From Scratch written by Nick Ruiz and published by Sound Wisdom. This book was released on 2017-07-18 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Develop High-Level Awareness and Mental Strategies to Advance into Massive Success! There is an infinite amount of material out there on how to succeed, how to make money, how to trade stocks, how to grow your business, how to enhance your career, etc. Nowadays, we have no shortage of people teaching others how to be successful. The majority of people who read and take courses on "how to" material never actually succeed with it. That is a sad fact, because many people could have the beautiful and successful lives they want, but they are missing some key components that would get them results. Success opportunities may be presenting themselves to you every day, but the problem is they are in a language in which you may not be fluent. The point of this book is to teach you how to become “fluent” in the language of success and opportunity, so you can step out and receive this new world you can now perceive with full clarity and understanding. This book covers creating real success from scratch. It does not matter if you are at “knowledge” scratch, financial scratch, or “entry level job” scratch. It does not matter if you filed bankruptcy yesterday. In fact, being “at scratch” is perfectly okay because it has nothing to do with becoming successful. Where you are starting from means nothing, as long as you open your mind to the concepts I will be sharing with you to sculpt the right psychology to produce success and opportunity.
