Download or read book Embracing Brokenness written by Alan E. Nelson and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-10-21 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Embracing Brokenness is a journey to healing and wholeness, by teaching how God can use our disappointments to grow us, if we're willing to embrace them. Alan E. Nelson, Ed.D., studied the process of brokenness through scriptures historical and contemporary leaders, along with this own faith journey. While few talk about times of brokenness openly, nearly everyone experiences them deeply. Instead of resisting the pain and avoiding the things that cause them, the counter intuitive solution is that God often uses brokenness to grow our souls. Embracing our brokenness improves healing and catalyzes maturity, resulting in new growth that will only happen through this embrace. People who resist brokenness become the walking wounded and they are all around us, becoming bitter versus better and extending their pain to others. This book is a truly healing read for those who are experiencing broken dreams, healthy, relations, finances, and feeling despondent in general. Hope sprouts new, as you read these contemporary words of wisdom that have aided people throughout time.

Book Measure of My Days

Download or read book Measure of My Days written by Florida Scott-Maxwell and published by Knopf. This book was released on 2013-07-31 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At eighty-two, Florida Scott-Maxwell felt impelled to write about her strong reactions to being old, and to the time in which we live. Until almost the end this document was not intended for anyone to see, but the author finally decided that she wanted her thoughts and feelings to reach others. Mrs. Scott-Maxwell writes: “I was astonished to find how intensely one lives in one’s eighties. The last years seemed a culmination and by concentrating on them one became more truly oneself. Though old, I felt full of potential life. It pulsed in me even as I was conscious of shrinking into a final form which it was my task and stimulus to complete.” The territory of the old is not Scott-Maxwell’s only concern. In taking the measure of the sum of her days as a woman of the twentieth century, she confronts some of the most disturbing conflicts of human nature—the need for differentiation as against equality, the recognition of the evil forces in our nature—and her insights are challenging and illuminating. The vision that emerges from her accumulated experience of life makes this a remarkable document that speaks to all ages.

Book Broken

  • Author : Jacqueline D. Thompson
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2017-08-24
  • ISBN : 9781974691647
  • Pages : 160 pages

Download or read book Broken written by Jacqueline D. Thompson and published by . This book was released on 2017-08-24 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Living life without purpose leads to a multitude of foolish choices! Have you ever had a small pebble hit your car windshield, only to leave a small crack in it? Hardly noticeable, huh? This very tiny crack can remain unnoticeable for days, months, or even years until you hit something hard enough to shatter it. Now that it's shattered, it's a bit more noticeable and begins to look unattractive. Do you get it fixed immediately, wait a while before fixing it or wait until it finally breaks? The answer to this question can be debatable depending on the reader. Nevertheless, one or more answers can be found in this book. Why? Because it will be become clear what can be expected when God sends us through a breaking process. When He needs our attention. Broken is all about my testimony of discovering the true meaning of a very powerful Bible verse:Psalm 51:17,"My sacrifice [the sacrifice acceptable] to God is a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart [broken down with sorrow for sin and humbly and thoroughly penitent], such, O God, You will not despise." (Amplified)This one verse has changed my views on life. My prayer is that it will change yours too. You will discover, as you ponder the pages of this book, that life is a matter of choices (good and bad). How I lived mine emotionally drained me from the stress and anxieties of unclothing the bad ones I made. I continuously ignored a habitual cycle of duplicating mistakes, making bad decisions and choosing to stay in an, all-to-familiar, seemingly comfortable place. I got caught up, expecting a different outcome of the same life situations, never getting the lesson to be learned from the experience. Blame ultimately fell on everyone else but me, to cover up what I feared showing the most, my identity. After reading Broken one can discover that the one acceptable sacrifice God wants is a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart. I hope that you find the eight chapters of this book gratifying, insightful and empowering enough to embrace your own journey of being broken.

Book Sexuality and Holy Longing

Download or read book Sexuality and Holy Longing written by Lisa Graham McMinn and published by Jossey-Bass. This book was released on 2004-01-26 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This powerful book shows how many Christians, including pastors, parents and leaders, have unwittingly absorbed many cultural ideas about sexuality that are not supported by the Bible. As people created by God for relationship, our sexuality guarantees that we will long for and be drawn toward others, McMinn provides a blueprint for understanding sexuality--and our longing to be loved-- at all stages of life (childhood, teen years, early adulthood, midlife, and old age), and addresses tough topics including sexuality for those who are single (divorced, widowed, or never married). She also details practical solutions for ways that parents, educators, and churches can nurture others and ourselves in the quest to understand sexuality as a longing that draws us toward God and others, and to embrace it as a God-given gift. Thought provoking study questions at the end of each chapter inspire us to action in reclaiming our sexuality through grace.
