Book Conducting Research Surveys via E mail and the Web

Download or read book Conducting Research Surveys via E mail and the Web written by Matthias Schonlau and published by Rand Corporation. This book was released on 2002-02-15 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Internet-based surveys, although still in their infancy, are becomingincreasingly popular because they are believed to be faster, better, cheaper, and easier to conduct than surveys using more-traditional telephoneor mail methods. Based on evidence in the literature and real-life casestudies, this book examines the validity of those claims. The authorsdiscuss the advantages and disadvantages of using e-mail and the Web toconduct research surveys, and also offer practical suggestions for designing and implementing Internet surveys most effectively.Among other findings, the authors determined that Internet surveys may bepreferable to mail or telephone surveys when a list of e-mail addresses forthe target population is available, thus eliminating the need for mail orphone invitations to potential respondents. Internet surveys also arewell-suited for larger survey efforts and for some target populations thatare difficult to reach by traditional survey methods. Web surveys areconducted more quickly than mail or phone surveys when respondents arecontacted initially by e-mail, as is often the case when a representativepanel of respondents has been assembled in advance. And, although surveysincur virtually no coding or data-entry costs because the data are capturedelectronically, the labor costs for design and programming can be high.

Book U S Postal Service

Download or read book U S Postal Service written by Katherine Siggerud and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2007-09 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 2001 comprehensive postal reform legislation was needed to address the USPS¿s unsustainable business model, which assumed that increasing mail vol. would cover rising costs & mitigate rate increases. This outdated model limited its flexibility & incentives needed to realize sufficient cost savings to offset rising costs, declining First-Class Mail vol., unfunded obligations, & an expanding delivery network. This limitation threatened the USPS¿s ability to achieve its mission of providing affordable, high-quality universal postal services on a self-financing basis. This report focuses on: why the USPS was recently removed from a high-risk list; the USPS¿s financial condition in FY2007; & the opportunities & challenges facing the USPS. Charts & tables.

Book The Dreamcast Encyclopedia

Download or read book The Dreamcast Encyclopedia written by Chris Scullion and published by White Owl. This book was released on 2023-11-30 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dreamcast Encyclopedia is the fifth book in Scottish author and games journalist Chris Scullion’s critically-acclaimed series of video game encyclopedias. The Sega Dreamcast is fondly remembered by players as a games console that was ahead of its time, almost to a fault. Its incredible graphics offered a level of detail that hadn’t been seen on home systems to that point, and its built-in modem brought online multiplayer to many console players for the first time ever. Ultimately though, the release of the PS2 (and later the GameCube and Xbox) led to struggling sales and Sega would eventually pull the plug on the Dreamcast just two years into its life, bowing out of the console manufacturing business altogether. On paper the Dreamcast was a commercial failure, but those who owned one remember it so fondly that for many it remains one of the greatest games consoles of all time, with a small but well-formed library of high-quality games. This book contains every one of those games, including not only the entire western library of around 270 titles, but also the 340 or so games that were exclusively released in Japan. With over 600 games covered in total, screenshots for every title and a light-hearted writing style designed for an entertaining read, The Dreamcast Encyclopedia is the definitive guide to one of the most underrated gaming systems of all time.

Book Delivering the Vision

Download or read book Delivering the Vision written by Eileen Milner and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-06-01 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Political rhetoric surrounding the role of information and knowledge in society in the twenty-first century is often thrown into sharp relief by the realities of practice. Delivering the Vision explores the way in which public service visions have developed globally and how successful they have been in contributing to major social and economic change. This edited text contains a range of case studies from the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, Canada, the USA and Australia. Contributors focus both on those factors critical to success and on reasons for failure, but a common theme to emerge across all contributions is the requirement for a clear political vision, commitment and leadership if the shift from traditional forms of social and economic organisation to high-value, knowledge-intensive economies is to be safely negotiated. At the same time, individual case studies provide valuable blueprints for successful implementation of an ambitious public service change agenda. Delivering the Vision is accessible and relevant to all those interested in the management and reform of public sector organisations. It is a companion volume to the editor's earlier text Managing Information and Knowledge in the Public Sector (Routlegde: 2000)
