Book Elvis Presley s From Elvis in Memphis

Download or read book Elvis Presley s From Elvis in Memphis written by Eric Wolfson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2020-11-12 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I had to leave town for a little while--" with these words, Elvis Presley truly came home to rock and roll. A little over a month earlier he had staged rock's first and greatest comeback in a television program, forever known as "The '68 Comeback Special." With this show, he resurrected himself--at the age of 33, no less--from the ashes of a career mired in bad movies and soundtracks. So where to go from here? Like a killer returning to the scene of the crime, Elvis came back home to Memphis, where it had all begun. Eschewing the fancier studios of Nashville and Hollywood, he set up shop at the ramshackle American Sound Studio, run by a maverick named Chips Moman with an in-house backing band now known as "The Memphis Boys," and made the music of his life. The resulting work, From Elvis in Memphis, would be the finest studio album of his career, an explosion of mature confidence and fiery inspiration. It was the sound of Elvis establishing himself as a true rock and roll artist--and proving his status as a legend.

Book Elvis Presley Unabridged Guide

Download or read book Elvis Presley Unabridged Guide written by Fred Thomas and published by Tebbo. This book was released on 2012-10-01 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Complete, Unabridged Guide to Elvis Presley. Get the information you need--fast! This comprehensive guide offers a thorough view of key knowledge and detailed insight. It's all you need. Here's part of the content - you would like to know it all? Delve into this book today!..... : Presley made what would be his only appearance on Nashville's Grand Ole Opry on October 2; after a polite audience response, Opry manager Jim Denny told Phillips that his singer was not bad but did not suit the program. ...Some of the songs, like That's All Right, were in what one Memphis journalist described as the R&B idiom of negro field jazz; others, like Blue Moon of Kentucky, were more in the country field, but there was a curious blending of the two different musics in both. ...The others would centrally define the evolving sound of rock and roll: Blue Suede Shoes-an improvement over Perkins' in almost every way, according to critic Robert Hilburn-and three R&B numbers that had been part of Presley's stage repertoire for some time, covers of Little Richard, Ray Charles, and The Drifters. ...In her autobiography, Priscilla says that despite his worries that it would ruin his career, Parker convinced Presley that to gain popular respect, he should serve his country as a regular soldier rather than in Special Services, where he would have been able to give some musical performances and remain in touch with the public. There is absolutely nothing that isn't thoroughly covered in the book. It is straightforward, and does an excellent job of explaining all about Elvis Presley in key topics and material. There is no reason to invest in any other materials to learn about Elvis Presley. You'll understand it all. Inside the Guide: Elvis Presley, Charles Laughton, Change of Habit, Cassandra Peterson, Carl Perkins, Can't Help Falling in Love, CBS, Burning Love, Bossa Nova Baby, Boots Randolph, Bob Dylan, Bo Diddley, Blues, Blue Suede Shoes, Blue Moon of Kentucky, Blue Hawaii (album), Blue Hawaii, Blue Christmas (Elvis Presley album), Blue Christmas, Billboard Hot 100, Billboard 200, Bill Monroe, Bill Black, Big Mama Thornton, Barbra Streisand, Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts, Arthur Crudup, Ann-Margret, American Music Award, Amazing Grace: His Greatest Sacred Performances, Aloha from Hawaii: Via Satellite, Aloha from Hawaii, Almost in Love, All Shook Up (musical), All Shook Up, Albert Goldman, A Star Is Born (1976 film), A Little Less Conversation, A Date with Elvis, 50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong, 3rd Armored Division (United States), 2nd to None, (You're the) Devil in Disguise, (Now and Then There's) A Fool Such as I, (Ghost) Riders in the Sky: A Cowboy Legend

Book The Elvis Presley Handbook Everything You Need to Know about Elvis Presley

Download or read book The Elvis Presley Handbook Everything You Need to Know about Elvis Presley written by Emily Smith and published by Tebbo. This book was released on 2013-05 with total page 1170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elvis Aaron Presleya (January 8, 1935 - August 16, 1977) was an American singer and actor. A cultural icon, he is commonly known by the single name Elvis. One of the most popular musicians of the 20th century, he is often referred to as the "King of Rock and Roll" or "the King." Born in Tupelo, Mississippi, Presley moved to Memphis, Tennessee, with his family at the age of 13. He began his career there in 1954, working with Sun Records owner Sam Phillips, who wanted to bring the sound of African-American music to a wider audience. Accompanied by guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black, Presley was the most important popularizer of rockabilly, an uptempo, backbeat-driven fusion of country and rhythm and blues. RCA Victor acquired his contract in a deal arranged by Colonel Tom Parker, who went on to manage the singer for over two decades. Presley's first RCA single, "Heartbreak Hotel," released in January 1956, was a number-one hit. He became the leading figure of the newly popular sound of rock and roll with a series of network television appearances and chart-topping records. His energized interpretations of songs, many from African-American sources, and his uninhibited performance style made him enormously popular-and controversial. In November 1956, he made his film debut in Love Me Tender. Drafted into military service in 1958, Presley relaunched his recording career two years later with some of his most commercially successful work. He staged few concerts however, and guided by Parker, proceeded to devote much of the 1960s to making Hollywood movies and soundtrack albums, most of them critically derided. In 1968, after seven years away from the stage, he returned to live performance in a celebrated comeback television special that led to an extended Las Vegas concert residency and a string of profitable tours. In 1973 Presley staged the first concert broadcast globally via satellite, Aloha from Hawaii. Prescription drug abuse severely deteriorated his health, and he died suddenly in 1977 at the age of 42. Presley is regarded as one of the most important figures of 20th-century popular culture. He had a versatile voice and unusually wide success encompassing many genres, including country, pop ballads, gospel, and blues. He is the best-selling solo artist in the history of popular music. Nominated for 14 competitive Grammys, he won three, and received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at age 36. He has been inducted into multiple music halls of fame.
