Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elements of Mechanical Drawing: Use of Instruments, Geometrical Problems, and Projection The Third Angle Method of projection is used exclusively, in accordance with the best modern practice. Some college instructors have objected to this because it is not commonly adopted in treatises on Descriptive Geometry; but the author has used it instead of the First Angle Method for the teaching of this subject during the past four years, and it has caused no difficulty or confusion on the part of the students. Book First Principles of Mechanical and Engineering Drawing Classic Reprint

Download or read book First Principles of Mechanical and Engineering Drawing Classic Reprint written by H. Holt-Butterfill and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from First Principles of Mechanical and Engineering Drawing The greater part Of the subject matter Of this book appeared in a series Of articles in the Mechanical World. The purpose in writing it is SO fully explained in the Introduction that a Preface is hardly required. AS the forms given to the various parts Of a machine or engine are on analysis invariably found to be combinations Of certain geometrical Solids, a knowledge Of how each Of these Should be drawn when in any position should be first acquired by the student draughts man. TO this end a series Of problems is given in the following pages, commencing with the construction of those Simple geometrical figures which form the surfaces Of the solids which give Shape to mechanical details, and subsequently the method adopted in representing the solids themselves, singly and in combination. AS no amount Of copying drawings Of mechanical details will ever give the student a knowledge Of the reasons why they are made to take the special forms given to them, SO in the earlier stages Of the study Of mechanical drawing it is impossible for him to acquire the power to draw the Simplest solids in different positions correctly without a knowledge Of the principles Of Orthographic Projection, which is the basis Of the representation Of all solid Objects. In this part Of the subject an extended series Of problems is given, the solution Of which Should enable the student to draw any Simple Object without further help. In the method Of studying the contents Of this work, the student is advised to take the different parts Of the subject in the order in which they are arranged, as he will thereby be led to acquire a mastery Of it in a way that will impress upon his mind the connection that each part bears to that which follows. The order Of study may not be that usually followed, but it is such as an association Of many years with draughtsmen and students has proved to the author to be the best for the acquisition Of the preliminary knowledge necessary to the successful practice Of the draughtsman's art. Book Essentials in Mechanical Drawing Classic Reprint

Download or read book Essentials in Mechanical Drawing Classic Reprint written by L. J. Smith and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-06 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Essentials in Mechanical Drawing This brief treatment of the essentials of mechanical drawing is designed to give instruction in the rudiments of plan drawing as it occurs in everyday life, so that the student will be able to read and understand ordinary drawings and be able to do ordinary mechanical sketching. The book should be of value also to one who is about to take a longer course in drawing, for it aims to correct the common mistakes of the beginner. Where work is given without the regular instruments, it is well to provide the students with small drawing boards about 12 X 18 inches in size, together with a T square. This equipment makes for more rapid and accurate work. The bottom edge of the drawing board can be planed square with the left side so that the T square may be used for both horizontal and vertical lines. The lists of exercises offered are merely suggestive. Where possible it is best to have drawings made from the object itself rather than from another drawing. This is possible even in the drafting room, in institutions where shop work is given, for one can there secure enough joints or other woodwork so that at least every two students will have the object on the drafting table. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Practical Course in Mechanical Drawing The subject is best taught with the use of models, instead of sketches and pictorial illustrations. A glance through the book Will convince the teacher that a set of models corresponding to the exercises can be easily procured. The result of the instruction will then be real instead of imaginary, since the student knows absolutely what his drawings represent, and need not rely on an untrained imagination. Book The Practice of Mechanical Drawing for Self Instruction Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Practice of Mechanical Drawing for Self Instruction Classic Reprint written by Williams Welch and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-10-20 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Practice of Mechanical Drawing for Self-Instruction A draftsman should be familiar with the problems in this chapter, and should be able to construct them very accurately when necessary. In practice, they are seldom used; but unless he knows how to draw them with precision, he will not be apt to get them so nearly correct when drawing them approximately. Problems of this kind are about the best exercises for beginners in mechanical drawing. The desired results will not be obtained unless extremely 'fine, hair-like lines are drawn, and all centres and other points taken exactly on these lines. Therefore it is important to use very hard pencils sharpened to a needle or chisel point, and to avoid making holes in the paper with the compasses. Given and required lines should be drawn fine in ink, and construction lines drawn in pencil only; but, to distinguish them in these problems, given lines are heavy; required lines fine; and construction lines broken. This book was released on 2016-10-20 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Fundamentals of Mechanical Drawing While no course is outlined for the teacher, several hundred carefully chosen drill problems in the elements are provided. The orthographic and isometric problems may well be supplemented by the use of a varied assortment of wooden blocks, some of them similar to those illustrated on Plates 20 and 21, others far simpler in outline. From these blocks the student should make ortho graphic and isometric drawings, some of which should be dimensioned. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mechanical Drawing: Elementary and Advanced A mechanical drawing is used to convey precise information from one person to another. A patternmaker must have a true drawing of an object, giving correct dimensions and instructions before he can make a pattern, from which the foundryman can make a rough casting. The machinist must have a drawing from which he can obtain accurate information to enable him to take the rough casting and by slotting, planing, drilling, grinding, chipping or turning he can produce the finished article as designed by the draftsman.
