Book Ceramic Perspectives on Ancient Egyptian Society

Download or read book Ceramic Perspectives on Ancient Egyptian Society written by Leslie Anne Warden and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-06-24 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Element demonstrates how ceramics, a dataset that is more typically identified with chronology than social analysis, can forward the study of Egyptian society writ large. This Element argues that the sheer mass of ceramic material indicates the importance of pottery to Egyptian life. Ceramics form a crucial dataset with which Egyptology must critically engage, and which necessitate working with the Egyptian past using a more fluid theoretical toolkit. This Element will demonstrate how ceramics may be employed in social analyses through a focus on four broad areas of inquiry: regionalism; ties between province and state, elite and non-elite; domestic life; and the relationship of political change to social change. While the case studies largely come from the Old through Middle Kingdoms, the methods and questions may be applied to any period of Egyptian history.

Book Ceramic Material Systems

Download or read book Ceramic Material Systems written by Martin Bechthold and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2015-08-31 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Far beyond its long-standing decorative and protective use, architectural ceramics has matured into a material system of great potential. Triggered by material research, design computation and digital fabrication methods, the innovations in ceramic technology are enabling expanded applications for ceramics as a multi-functional, performative material system. Ceramic material systems comprise the full ecosystem from material extraction and processing to the assembly of construction elements and their eventual reuse and recycling. This book establishes the state of the art of this quickly emerging field, with a particular interest in presenting the knowledge needed for developing project-specific solutions that often involve custom ceramic elements. The authors provide a rigorous background of the materials and associated technologies as well as inspiration from the very best contemporary buildings using ceramic systems, along with an overview of emerging ceramic technologies and research. The main section of the book is supplemented with a descriptive and critically commented listing of the most interesting and innovative ceramic products on the market today, ranging from interior tile products to complex active façade systems and roof products.

Book Biomaterials

  • Publisher : BoD – Books on Demand
  • Release : 2011-11-14
  • ISBN : 9533074183
  • Pages : 506 pages

Download or read book Biomaterials written by Rosario Pignatello and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2011-11-14 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These contribution books collect reviews and original articles from eminent experts working in the interdisciplinary arena of biomaterial development and use. From their direct and recent experience, the readers can achieve a wide vision on the new and ongoing potentialities of different synthetic and engineered biomaterials. Contributions were selected not based on a direct market or clinical interest, but based on results coming from very fundamental studies. This too will allow to gain a more general view of what and how the various biomaterials can do and work for, along with the methodologies necessary to design, develop and characterize them, without the restrictions necessarily imposed by industrial or profit concerns. The chapters have been arranged to give readers an organized view of this research area. In particular, this book contains 25 chapters related to recent researches on new and known materials, with a particular attention to their physical, mechanical and chemical characterization, along with biocompatibility and hystopathological studies. Readers will be guided inside the range of disciplines and design methodologies used to develope biomaterials possessing the physical and biological properties needed for specific medical and clinical applications.

Book Processing of Ceramics

Download or read book Processing of Ceramics written by Akio Ikesue and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-05-25 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PROCESSING OF CERAMICS A firsthand account of the “transparent ceramics revolution” from one of the pioneers in the field Processing of Ceramics: Breakthroughs in Optical Materials is an in-depth survey of the breakthrough research and development of transparent ceramics, covering historical background, theory, manufacturing processes, and applications. Written by an internationally-recognized leader in the technology, this authoritative volume describes advances in optical grade ceramics over the past three decades—from the author’s first demonstration of laser ceramics in Japan in 1991 to new applications of transparent ceramics such as ceramic jewels, wireless heating elements, and mobile device displays. The author provides numerous development examples of laser ceramics, crystal and ceramic scintillators, magneto-optic transparent ceramics, optical ceramic phosphors for solid state lighting, and more. Detailed chapters cover topics such as the technical problems of conventional translucent and transparent ceramics, the characteristics of scintillation materials, single crystal and ceramic scintillator fabrication and optimization, and solid-state crystal growth (SSCG) methods for single crystal ceramics. Processing of Ceramics: Outlines the author’s 30 years of work in the area of transparent ceramics Provides a detailed history of the world's first ceramic laser development Demonstrates how laser oscillation using ceramic materials match or surpass high-quality single crystals Describes how innovative polycrystalline ceramics have transformed optical material development Includes extensive references, chapter introductions and summaries, and numerous graphs, tables, diagrams, and color images Processing of Ceramics is an invaluable resource for researchers, materials scientists, engineers, and other professionals across academic and industrial fields involved in the development and application of optical grade ceramics.
