Book Elementary Italian Revised First Edition Color

Download or read book Elementary Italian Revised First Edition Color written by Jessica Greenfield and published by Cognella Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013-05-16 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Elementary Italian" teaches Italian vocabulary, grammar, and culture in units centering on practical, engaging themes. The progression of the material is tried and tested, and begins with an introductory lesson on the alphabet and pronunciation, greetings and salutations, numbers, days of the week, and months of the year. Topics such as the family, the city, leisure activities, health, and the home present useful, everyday vocabulary and language in familiar contexts, making it easy for students to relate to the target language and practice applying it. As students advance through the text they learn several verb tenses: the simple present, the imperative, the present perfect, gerunds, and the present progressive. Other grammatical structures include pronouns, comparatives and superlatives, and prepositions. In addition to the language, the text also teaches students about aspects of Italian culture including Italian cuisine, the school system, fashion, and politics and government. Each section on culture includes authentic materials, providing students with exposure to the Italian language as it is used by native speakers. Student friendly and extensively class-tested, "Elementary Italian" was written for college-level beginning Italian courses, and is designed for classes that meet three days a week over a fifteen week semester, but can easily be adapted to a quarter system. Jessica Greenfield earned bachelor's degrees in Italian studies and Classical Civilizations at the University of California, Berkeley, her master's degree in Italian Studies at the University of Notre Dame, and her Ph.D. in Romance Languages, with a specialization in Italian, at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Dr. Greenfield is a faculty member in the Department of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of North Texas, where she also serves as the Italian Language Program Coordinator. The author of numerous articles, reviews, and textbook contributions, she has also presented at regional and national conferences. Her research interests include modern Italian literature, Sicilian writers, and the Italian realist writer Giovanni Verga.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mussolini's Children uses the lens of state-mandated youth culture to analyze the evolution of official racism in Fascist Italy. Between 1922 and 1940, educational institutions designed to mold the minds and bodies of Italy's children between the ages of five and eleven undertook a mission to rejuvenate the Italian race and create a second Roman Empire. This project depended on the twin beliefs that the Italian population did indeed constitute a distinct race and that certain aspects of its moral and physical makeup could be influenced during childhood. Eden K. McLean assembles evidence from state policies, elementary textbooks, pedagogical journals, and other educational materials to illustrate the contours of a Fascist racial ideology as it evolved over eighteen years. Her work explains how the most infamous period of Fascist racism, which began in the summer of 1938 with the publication of the "Manifesto of Race," played a critical part in a more general and long-term Fascist racial program.

Book Avanti Beginning Italian

Download or read book Avanti Beginning Italian written by Janice Aski and published by McGraw-Hill Education. This book was released on 2009-01-21 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to the second edition of Avanti! In the new edition out priorities remain the same as those of the first edition, to provide an introductory language course that meets the needs of both instructors and learners. Three significant characteristics set Avanti! apart from other first-year Italian texts: First, Avanti! satisfies students’ desire to communicate in everyday situations right from the start and to explore Italy's rich and unique culture in meaningful ways. Second, Avanti! responds to instructors' concern that most textbooks attempt to cover too much material in the first year. We have designed an elementary course that reflects reasonable expectations for the amount of material that most beginning learners can acquire in one year of classroom instruction. Third, the methodology of Avanti! is firmly grounded in current findings of research in second language acquisition and foreign language pedagogy. The materials provide support for instructors, particularly those with limited experience, whose goals are to teach mainly, if not exclusively, in Italian, and to create the student-centered, communicative classroom environment that is promoted by this research. The title Avanti! was chosen to convey the forward-thinking approach of this exciting new program.
