Book Analytical Geometry for Beginners

Download or read book Analytical Geometry for Beginners written by Alfred Baker and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-24 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Analytical Geometry for Beginners The following pages embrace, in the main, the substance of lectures which for some years past I have been giving to students of applied science. Fragments of this work have also been given to students to whom a general knowledge of the principles of Analytical Geometry was part of a liberal education. It is important that the beginner should not think the terms "Analytical Geometry" and "Conic Sections" are synonymous. Analytical Geometry is the application of Analysis, or algebra, to Geometry, the principal quantities involved in the equations having reference to and receiving their meaning from certain lines known as axes of co-ordinates, or their equivalents. The principles of Analytical Geometry are developed in the first two chapters of this book. It is usual to illustrate these principles by applying them to the straight line, and to obtaining the properties of the simplest yet most important curves with which we are acquainted, - the Conic Sections. Hence the remainder of the book is occupied in applying the principles and methods of Analytical Geometry to the straight line, circle, parabola, etc. Throughout the effort has been to limit the size of the book, while omitting nothing that seemed essential. Many important properties of the Conics are given as exercises, the solutions being made simple by the results of previous exercises, as well as by hints and suggestions. Book Analytical Geometry for Beginners The Straight Line and Circle

Download or read book Analytical Geometry for Beginners The Straight Line and Circle written by Thomas Grenfell Vyvyan and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-11 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Analytical Geometry for Beginners:, The Straight Line and Circle, Vol. 1 This little book is an attempt to simplify a subject which the majority of boys find unusually difficult. It is intended partly for young boys with some mathematical taste, and partly for those who have to get up a little for military and other examinations, but who do not intend to pursue their studies farther than is necessary for these examinations. With these objects, the explanations have been made very full, but all reference to oblique coordinates and to transformations has been postponed to the last chapter. A large number of easy examples have been specially prepared for this book. Though some of the articles and examples have been taken from my Elementary Analytical Geometry, this book is constructed on a different plan from the other. I hope that it will be found sufficient as far as it goes, and an easy introduction to more advanced treatises on the subject. Book Analytic Geometry for Colleges Universities and Technical Schools

Download or read book Analytic Geometry for Colleges Universities and Technical Schools written by E. W. Nichols and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-16 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Analytic Geometry for Colleges, Universities, and Technical Schools This text-book is designed for Colleges, Universities, and Technical Schools. The aim of the author has been to prepare a work for beginners, and at the same time to make it sufficiently comprehensive for the requirements of the usual undergraduate course. For the methods of development of the various principles he has drawn largely upon his experience in the class-room. In the preparation of the work all authors, home and foreign, whose works were available, have been freely consulted. In the first few chapters elementary examples follow the discussion of each principle. In the subsequent chapters sets of examples appear at intervals throughout each chapter, and are so arranged as to partake both of the nature of a review and an extension of the preceding principles. At the end of each chapter general examples, involving a more extended application of the principles deduced, are placed for the benefit of those who may desire a higher course in the subject. The author takes pleasure in calling attention to a "Discussion of Surfaces," by A. L. Nelson, M.A., Professor of Mathematics in Washington and Lee University, which appears as the final chapter in this work. Book An Elementary Treatise on Analytic Geometry

Download or read book An Elementary Treatise on Analytic Geometry written by Edward Albert Bowser and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-24 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Elementary Treatise on Analytic Geometry: Embracing Plane Geometry The present work on Analytic Geometry is designed as a text-book for Colleges and Scientific Schools. The object has been to exhibit the subject in a clear and simple manner, especially for the use of beginners, and at the same time to include all that students usually require in the regular undergraduate course. The aim has been to make every principle clear, so as to be easily understood by students of average ability; for I venture to think that there is nothing in the subject that lies beyond the reach of good common minds. It has been the intention to furnish a useful text-book; clear and concise demonstrations have been sought and freely taken from all available sources. Wherever it has been possible to simplify a line of proof as indicated by the leading writers, so as to adapt it to the use of beginners, it has been done; but no attempt has been made to depart from clear and satisfactory methods adopted by others, merely for the purpose of seeming to be original.
