Book Electroencephalography in Aerospace Medicine

Download or read book Electroencephalography in Aerospace Medicine written by P. M. van Wulfften Palthe and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The series of papers provides information on some recent developments and on accepted limitations in the vast field of electroencephalography in relation to problems in aviation medicine. Chapter I contains three contributions of general interest concerning interpretation of the EEG. Chapter II is an extensive survey of EEG findings in aircrew and passengers and stresses the importance of a routine EEG at the start of a career in aviation and of serial EEG's in individual cases. The statistical evaluation of EEG characteristics as a means of helping selection are discussed in Chapter III and the fourth chapter deals with the relations between centrifugal acceleration and EEG changes, in particular the changes associated with fluctuations in the level of consciousness. Book The State of the Art of Electroencephalography and Its Role in Manned Space Flight

Download or read book The State of the Art of Electroencephalography and Its Role in Manned Space Flight written by J. F. Herrick and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The state-of-the-art of electroencephalography is in a condition of flux because of the recent technological advances in the methods for processing neuroelectric data. One major motivating influence for accelerating these recent advances is the increasing emphasis on manned space flight programs. How competent is man during orbital flight? The purpose of this report was to seek an answer to this question. Since competency is defined as functional adequacy, some clue to this adequacy may be found in monitoring the nervous system, particularly the electrical activity of the brain. A search for a possible answer to the above question was made, therefore, in the field of electroencephalography. Unfortunately, no electroencephalograms of our astronauts have been recorded during flight. This report contains the opinions of scientists recognized generally for their contributions to the field of neurophysiology and psychiatry, and is an attempt at answering the above question."--P. 1.

Book EEG Electrodes for In flight Monitoring

Download or read book EEG Electrodes for In flight Monitoring written by Eric R. Skov and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An electrode is described for in-flight recording of EEG. The electrode provides significant improvement over previously available types. When properly applied, it produces little noise, even when tapped. It is resistant to accidental dislodgement and is comfortable under close-fitting headgear. The leads, a major problem source, may easily be replaced. The impedance between two electrodes is 5,000 ohms or less, permitting use with miniature transistorized amplifiers.

Book The Neurosciences and the Practice of Aviation Medicine

Download or read book The Neurosciences and the Practice of Aviation Medicine written by Anthony N. Nicholson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings the neurosciences to operational and clinical aviation medicine. It is concerned with the physiology and pathology of circadian rhythmicity, orientation, hypotension and hypoxia, and with disorders of the central nervous system relevant to the practice of aviation medicine. The chapters on circadian rhythmicity and orientation deal with the impaired alertness and sleep disturbance associated with desynchrony and with the effects of linear and angular accelerations on spatial awareness. Hypotension and hypoxia cover cerebral function during increased gravitational stress, clinical aspects of exposure to acute hypoxia, the mild hypoxia of the cabin of transport aircraft, adaptation and acclimatization to altitude and decompression at extreme altitudes and in space. Disorders of particular significance to the practice of aviation medicine such as excessive daytime sleepiness, epilepsy, syncope, hypoglycaemia, headache and traumatic brain injury are covered, while neuro-ophthalmology, the vestibular system and hearing also receive detailed attention. The potentially adverse effects of the aviation environment and of disorders of the nervous system are brought together, and the text covers the neurological examination as it relates to aircrew and explores current management and therapeutics. The Neurosciences and the Practice of Aviation Medicine is an essential work for those involved in the practice of aviation medicine where familiarity with the effects of the aviation environment on the nervous system and understanding the pathophysiology of relevant clinical disorders are of prime concern. The authors from leading centres of excellence are physiologists concerned with the aviation environment and physicians involved in the day-to-day practice of medicine. They bring to this authoritative text wide experience and expertise in both the experimental and clinical neurosciences.
