Download or read book Electrical Discharge written by C. Guy Suits and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-12-20 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Collected Works of Irving Langmuir, Volume 4: Electrical Discharge is a 12-chapter text that covers the fundamental and theoretical aspects of electrical discharge, with a particular emphasis on discharge in gases. The opening chapters are concerned the negative probes as being due to the random positive-ion current of the plasma and the proper space-charge with a very simple discharge tube and some miscellaneous experiments on a simple tube in which streamer type discharges were observed, as well as the effects of small amounts of tungsten in the argon discharge. These topics are followed by discussions on the verification of the Langmuir Probe-Theory; the disturbing effects of mercury vapor blast from the cathode spot on the mercury pool; and the phenomena observed in the low pressure discharges. Other chapters explore the Faraday dark space of the glow discharge and how the electrons of a beam in a plasma are given their higher velocity components. The final chapters introduce the concept of plasma oscillation. This book will be of value to electronics engineers and technical workers.
Download or read book Electrical Discharge Machining EDM written by M. P. Jahan and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) is one of the earliest and most widely used non-conventional machining processes. In recent years, the use of EDM has increased significantly in industries, mainly due to the extensive use of hard and difficult-to-cut materials, i.e. hardened steels, carbides, titanium alloys, nickel super alloys and so on. The EDM process is being used extensively for many important applications in die and mold, aerospace, automotive, micro-electronic and biomedical industries. As a result, extensive research has been carried out on various aspects of EDM. Taking those facts into consideration, this book aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the various types, technologies and applications of EDM. The book starts with chapters on the two major types of EDM: die-sinking EDM and wire-EDM. Subsequently, several EDM-based hybrid machining processes, such as: ultrasonically aided EDM, powder-mixed EDM, and simultanous micro-EDM/ECM have been discussed in detail. This book includes chapters on the detail of EDM surface and modeling and simulation of the EDM process. This book also contains chapters on the novel and innovative applications of EDM as well as machining of newer materials, such as: shape memory alloy, reaction-bonded silicon carbide, metal metrix composites, silicon based semiconductors, and non-conducting polymers. It is a useful resource for students and researchers who are planning to start their research on the area of EDM and related processes. It can also serve as a reference for students, academics, researchers, engineers, and working professionals in non-traditional manufacturing processes related industries.
Download or read book Pulsed Electrical Discharge in Vacuum written by Gennady A. Mesyats and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-02-12 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an up-to-date review of studies in the physics of pulsed electrical discharges in a vacuum. It gives the reader detailed information on the processes occurring at electrodes and in vacuum gaps and on the mechanisms of discharge initiation and development. Modern techniques and equipment are described in detail. Their high temporal and spatial resolution may be used to solve a number of problems concerning the short-term and microscopic aspects of discharges. A summary is given of a great deal of experimental data on the kinetics of vacuum breakdown. The authors used these results to identify a series of steps in the vacuum breakdown phenomenon. They were the first to discover and describe the explosive electron emission phenomenon and to show its fundamental role in the spark and the arc stages of a discharge. The information in this book may encourage the reader to design new experiments. The results presented may be applied to solve specific research or engineering problems.

This book was released on 2018 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the present study, optimization of chromium powder mixed EDM parameters is studied during machining of H13 tool steel. Four input parameters of powder mixed EDM, namely peak current, pulse on time, duty cycle and powder concentration, are varied, each at three levels, to get the optimum responses. Material removal rate (MRR), Tool wear rate (TWR) and Surface Roughness (Ra) are considered as performance measures. Copper electrode of 16 mm is used as the tool. Response Surface Methodology is used to correlate input and output parameters. The variation of responses due to variation in input parameters has been studied and shown in the form of surface plots and contour plots.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beginning with a couple of essays dealing with the experimental and mathematical foundations of physics in the work of Henry Cavendish and Joseph Fourier, the volume goes on to consider the broad areas of investigation that constituted the central foci of the development of the physics discipline in the nineteenth century: electricity and magnetism, including especially the work of Michael Faraday, William Thomson, and James Clerk Maxwell; and thermodynamics and matter theory, including the theoretical work and legacy of Josiah Willard Gibbs, some experimental work relating to thermodynamics and kinetic theory of Heinrich Hertz, and the work of Felix Seyler-Hoppe on hemoglobin in the neighboring field of biophysics/biochemistry. Moving on to the beginning of the twentieth century, a set of three articles on Albert Einstein deal with his early career and various influences on his work. Finally, a set of historiographical issues important for the history of physics are discussed, and the chronological conclusion of the volume is an article on the Solvay Conference of 1933. For physicists interested in the history of their discipline, historians and philosophers of science, and graduate students in these and related disciplines.
