Book Elastic Wave Field Extrapolation

Download or read book Elastic Wave Field Extrapolation written by C.P.A. Wapenaar and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-04-14 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extrapolation of seismic waves from the earth's surface to any level in the subsurface plays an essential role in many advanced seismic processing schemes, such as migration, inverse scattering and redatuming. At present these schemes are based on the acoustic wave equation. This means not only that S-waves (shear waves) are ignored, but also that P-waves (compressional waves) are not handled correctly. In the seismic industry there is an important trend towards multi-component data acquisition. For processing of multi-component seismic data, ignoring S-waves can no longer be justified. Wave field extrapolation should therefore be based on the full elastic wave equation. In this book the authors review acoustic one-way extrapolation of P-waves and introduce elastic one-way extrapolation of P- and S-waves. They demonstrate that elastic extrapolation of multi-component data, decomposed into P- and S-waves, is essentially equivalent to acoustic extrapolation of P-waves. This has the important practical consequence that elastic processing of multi-component seismic data need not be significantly more complicated than acoustic processing of single-component seismic data. This is demonstrated in the final chapters, which deal with the application of wave field extrapolation in the redatuming process of single- and multi-component seismic data. Geophysicists, and anyone who is interested in a review of acoustic and elastic wave theory, will find this book useful. It is also a suitable textbook for graduate students and those following courses in elastic wave field extrapolation as each subject is introduced in a relatively simple manner using the scalar acoustic wave equation. In the chapters on elastic wave field extrapolation the formulation, whenever possible, is analogous to that used in the chapters on acoustic wave field extrapolation. The text is illustrated throughout and a bibliography and keyword index are provided.

Book Seismic Migration Imaging of Acoustic Energy by Wave Field Extrapolation

Download or read book Seismic Migration Imaging of Acoustic Energy by Wave Field Extrapolation written by A. J. Berkhout and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seismic Migration: Imaging of Acoustic Energy by Wave Field Extrapolation, Second Edition, Volume A: Theoretical Aspects covers the theoretical aspects of seismic migration techniques. This volume is divided into 11 chapters that consider the concept of propagation and scattering matrices. This book begins with a presentation of a selection of concepts and properties of seismic migration from vector analysis. These topics are followed by considerable chapters on the mathematical aspects of migration, including discrete spectral analysis, two-dimensional Fourier transforms, and wave theory. The subsequent chapters describe the derivation of the Kirchhoff integral for upward traveling wave field and wave field extrapolation for downward traveling source waves and upward traveling reflected waves. These chapters also propose a matrix formulation to represent single seismic record and multi-record data sets, along with different modeling algorithms. A chapter examines inverse wave field extrapolation, in which the medium must be horizontally layered, the layers being homogeneous. The book ends with a summary and comparison of different approaches to seismic migration.

Download or read book Elastic Waves written by Vassily Babich and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-04-09 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elastic Waves: High Frequency Theory is concerned with mathematical aspects of the theory of high-frequency elastic waves, which is based on the ray method. The foundations of elastodynamics are presented along with the basic theory of plane and spherical waves. The ray method is then described in considerable detail for bulk waves in isotropic and anisotropic media, and also for the Rayleigh waves on the surface of inhomogeneous anisotropic elastic solids. Much attention is paid to analysis of higher-order terms and to generation of waves in inhomogeneous media. The aim of the book is to present a clear, systematic description of the ray method, and at the same time to emphasize its mathematical beauty. Luckily, this beauty is usually not accompanied by complexity and mathematical ornateness.

Book Introduction to Elastic Wave Propagation

Download or read book Introduction to Elastic Wave Propagation written by Anthony Bedford and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-11-05 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This revised and updated edition expands on its explanations of methods used to analyze waves in solid materials, such as the waves created by earthquakes and the ultrasonic waves used to detect flaws in materials and for medical diagnoses. In addition to the traditional methods used to analyze steady-state and transient waves in elastic materials, the book contains introductions to advanced areas that no other single text covers. These topics include the use of finite elements to solve wave problems, the Cagniard-de Hoop method, the four-pole technique for analyzing waves in layered media, and the growth and decay of shock and acceleration waves. The authors explain the theory of linear elasticity through the displacement equations of motion, methods used to analyze steady-state and transient waves in layered media, and include an appendix on functions of a complex variable. Originally developed for a graduate course for which no suitable text existed, the new edition retains its classroom-tested treatment of the theories of linear elasticity and complex variables for students needing background in those subjects.

Download or read book Theory of Elastic Waves written by Peijun Wei and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-01 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights a systematic introduction to the basic theory of elastic wave propagation in complex media. The theory of elastic waves is widely used in fields such as geophysical exploration, seismic survey, medical ultrasound imaging, nondestructive testing of materials and structures, phononic crystals, metamaterials and structure health monitoring. To help readers develop a systematic grasp of the basic theory, and thus its applications, the book elaborates on the theory of elastic wave propagation in isotropic solid media, covering phenomena in infinite media, interfaces, layered structure with finite thickness, Rayleigh wave and Love wave propagating along the surface of semi-infinite solid and covering layer, and the guided waves and leaky waves in flat plates and in cylindrical rods. The propagation patterns and features of guided waves in cylindrical shells and spherical shells are also introduced. The author wrote the book based on a decade of teaching experience of a graduate course of the same name and two decades of research on the theory and applications. The book is a valuable reference for students, researchers and professionals who expect an understandable and comprehensive discussion of the theory, analytical methods and related research results.

Book Elastic Waves at High Frequencies

Download or read book Elastic Waves at High Frequencies written by John G. Harris and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-07-22 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John G. Harris intended to explain in this book the special techniques required to model the radiation and diffraction of elastic and surface waves. Graduate students, researchers and professionals in applied mathematics, physics and engineering will find that the chapters increase in complexity, beginning with plane-wave propagation and spectral analyses. Other topics include elastic wave theory, the Wiener–Hopf technique, the effects of viscosity on acoustic diffraction, and the phenomenon of channelling of wave energy along guided structures.

This book develops and describes state of the art methodologies covering all aspects of full waveform tomography including methods for the numerical solution of the elastic wave equation, the adjoint method, the design of objective functionals and optimisation schemes. It provides a variety of case studies on all scales from local to global based on a large number of examples involving real data. It is a comprehensive reference on full waveform tomography for advanced students, researchers and professionals.
