Book Elastic Strength of Propellers

Download or read book Elastic Strength of Propellers written by Paris Genalis and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The determination of displacements and stresses in a propeller blade under the influence of a hydrodynamic pressure load is investigated. Also a simplified approach to the free, undamped vibration of the blade is suggested. The finite element method of analysis is used to analyze the blade as a shell or as a combination of a three dimensional solid and a shell. For the vibration problem, the complete blade was idealized by shell elements only. Constant stress tetrahedra and rectangular prism elements were used for the analysis of the three dimensional solids. A combination of both kinds of elements was found to cause no algorithmic difficulties or inaccuracies in the results and to provide the flexibility to approximate irregular boundaries by the tetrahedron. The stiffness of the shell element was obtained by the superposition of the stiffness of the plane stress element and the fully compatible plate bending element. The results using only the shell element were good both for the static and the dynamic problems. It was felt that with comparable meshes the shell element was more powerful than either of the three dimensional elements. (Author).

Book The Air Propeller Its Strength and Correct Shape

Download or read book The Air Propeller Its Strength and Correct Shape written by H. Dietsius and published by . This book was released on 1923 with total page 714 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Airplanes and airships, at the present day, often have engine installations totalling several hundred horsepower, the output from which must be transformed into thrust through the medium of one or more propellers; so that, not infrequently, a single propeller must transmit 250 to 500 HP. The peripheral speed of the propeller blades, in such cases, often exceeds 200 meters (656 feet) per second and the load due to centrifugal force may then amount to several tons. It is extremely desirable, therefore, that the strength of propellers should be calculated and not determined entirely by the workmen who are employed in their manufacture.

Book Marine Propellers and Propulsion

Download or read book Marine Propellers and Propulsion written by John Carlton and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2018-11-30 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marine Propellers and Propulsion, Fourth Edition, offers comprehensive, cutting edge coverage to equip marine engineers, naval architects or anyone involved in propulsion and hydrodynamics with essential job knowledge. Propulsion technology is a complex, multidisciplinary topic with design, construction, operational and research implications. Drawing on experience from a long and varied career in consulting, research, design and technical investigation, John Carlton examines hydrodynamic theory, materials and mechanical considerations, and design, operation and performance. Connecting essential theory to practical problems in design, analysis and operational efficiency, the book is an invaluable resource, packed with hard-won insights, detailed specifications and data. - Features comprehensive coverage of marine propellers, fully updated and revised, with new chapters on propulsion in ice and high speed propellers - Includes enhanced content on full-scale trials, propeller materials, propeller blade vibration, operational problems and much more - Synthesizes otherwise disparate material on the theory and practice of propulsion technology from the past 40 years' development, including the latest developments in improving efficiency - Written by a leading expert on propeller technology, essential for students, marine engineers and naval architects involved in propulsion and hydrodynamics

Book Static Stresses on Wide bladed Propellers

Download or read book Static Stresses on Wide bladed Propellers written by Justin H. McCarthy and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Static stresses were obtained in laboratory experiments for a destroyer propeller, having aerofoil blade sections, and a super-cavitating propeller, having wedge-shaped blade sections, using specially constructed pressure chambers that allowed the blade faces to be loaded under air pressure. A new method for applying beam theory is presented that closely predicts the magnitude and distribution of radial stresses on the destroyer propeller blade. For the supercavitating propeller, neither the proposed beam-theory method nor a particular computerized-shell analysis can be considered entirely satisfactory for prediction of blade stresses. Book Strength of Screw Propellers

Download or read book Strength of Screw Propellers written by and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is an attempt to systematize problems related to substantiation and development of practical methods for general strength calculation of ship propellers. Two approaches are presented for determining the strength characteristics of screw propellers: the first is based on taking into consideration static loads on the propeller blade only, while the second takes into account variable (cyclic) forces acting on the screw propeller.
