Ceci doit aboutir à l'adoption de conduites favorables à une bonne santé bucco-dentaire. Des lacunes, en ce qui concerne la prévention bucco-dentaire des enfants, ont été observées dans le service d'odontologie de Clermont-Ferrand. Le premier objectif de cette étude est donc d'élaborer une plaquette d'information destinée aux parents, dans laquelle ils puissent retrouver des informations utiles. Le second objectif de l'étude est la validation de cette plaquette d'information. Pour cela, deux groupes ont été comparés: un premier groupe qui a reçu la plaquette, et un second groupe qui ne l'a pas reçue. Le niveau de connaissances des parents a été évalué au moyen d'un questionnaire. L'amélioration des connaissances des parents, après lecture de la plaquette, a été le moyen d'évaluer l'efficacité de celle-ci. Pour les parents qui n'ont pas reçu la plaquette, il n'y a pas eu d'amélioration des connaissances. En revanche, nous avons observé une amélioration partielle des connaissances des parents qui l'ont reçue. Ainsi, la plaquette développée dans cette étude constitue un outil intéressant en matière de prévention bucco-dentaire des enfants. Elle pourrait s'intégrer dans des programmes de prévention plus larges, notamment au sein du service d'odontologie.

Cette étude vise à élaborer une plaquette d'information et à évaluer l'impact sur le niveau de connaissance des patients et sur le niveau d'absentéisme. Les résultats préliminaires montrent que la plaquette influe partiellement sur le niveau de connaissance des patients concernant le fonctionnement du CSERD. Ce document d'information n'a pas d'impact sur l'absentéisme des patients. Cette étude montre l'intérêt de développer des documents d'information, mais révèle aussi la complexité d'informer.

Book excerpt: Spitfire pilot Ross Smith Stagg was one of 33 Allied airmen to defend Darwin against Japanese invasion on May 2, 1943. As one of 14 pilots shot down or experience mechanical failure in the ensuing battle, he parachuted into the sea 18 km from land, 100 km southwest of Darwin in the Fogg Bay area. He reached the shore in a dinghy. For the next 15 days he trudged through inhospitable country in a futile attempt to return to Strauss airbase. What should have been a few days walk turned into his worst possible nightmare as he stumbled aimlessly through mosquito and crocodile infested swamps. "It was almost six days I'd been without sleep, apart from a short period of unconsciousness and those few moments before I fell out of that tree," he said. " I became demented by the cavalcade of mosquitoes and hallucinating badly". His experience was only to worsen - he waded halfway across a tidal river to be confronted by a large saltie. Darwin historian John Haslett help Stagg map the original route by retracing his steps, even managing to relocate an American Kittyhawk Stagg found crashed in the middle of nowhere.

Georges Minois paints a vast fresco, starting with the first old man to relate his own story—an Egyptian scribe some 4500 years ago—and ending with the deaths of Elizabeth I and Henry IV in the sixteenth century. Tracing the changing conceptions of the nature, value, and burden of the old, Minois argues that western history during this period is marked by great fluctuation in the social and political role of the aged. Minois shows how, in ancient Greece, the cult of youth and beauty on the one hand, and the reverence for the figure of the Homeric sage, on the other, created an ambivalent attitude toward the aged.
