Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Nuevas formas del malestar en la cultura written by Vilma Coccoz and published by Grama ediciones. This book was released on 2021-02-11 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book El malestar en la cultura contempor nea written by Víctor Manuel Carrasco Belmont and published by Víctor Manuel Carrasco Belmont. This book was released on 2022-05-26 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Intercultural Contact Language Learning and Migration

Download or read book Intercultural Contact Language Learning and Migration written by Barbara Geraghty and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2014-09-25 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the heart of this volume lies an exploration of what actually happens to languages and their users when cultures come into contact. What actions do supra-national institutions, nation states, communities and individuals take in response to questions raised by the increasingly diverse forms of migration experienced in a globalized world? The volume reveals the profound impact that decisions made at national and international level can have on the lives of the individual migrant, language student, or speech community. Equally, it evaluates the broader ramifications of actions taken by migrant communities and individual language learners around issues of language learning, language maintenance and intercultural contact. Reflecting Jan Blommaert's assertion that in a world shaped by globalization, what is needed is 'a theory of language in society... of changing language in a changing society', this volume argues that researchers must increasingly seek diverse methodological approaches if they are to do justice to the diversity of experience and response they encounter.

Book Iberian Modalities

Download or read book Iberian Modalities written by Joan Ramon Resina and published by Liverpool University Press. This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of late the term Iberian Studies has been gaining academic currency, but its semantic scope still fluctuates. For some it is a convenient way of combining the official cultures of two states, Portugal and Spain; yet for others the term opens up disciplinary space, altering established routines. A relational approach to Iberian Studies shatters the state’s epistemological frame and complexifies the field through the emergence of lines of inquiry and bodies of knowledge hitherto written off as irrelevant. This timely volume brings together contributions from leading international scholars who demonstrate the cultural and linguistic complexity of the field by reflecting on the institutional challenges to the practice of Iberian Studies. As such, the book will be required reading for all those working in the field.

Book Engaging the Emotions in Spanish Culture and History

Download or read book Engaging the Emotions in Spanish Culture and History written by Luisa Elena Delgado and published by Vanderbilt University Press. This book was released on 2021-04-30 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rather than being properties of the individual self, emotions are socially produced and deployed in specific cultural contexts, as this collection documents with unusual richness. All the essays show emotions to be a form of thought and knowledge, and a major component of social life—including in the nineteenth century, which attempted to relegate them to a feminine intimate sphere. The collection ranges across topics such as eighteenth-century sensibility, nineteenth-century concerns with the transmission of emotions, early twentieth-century cinematic affect, and the contemporary mobilization of political emotions including those regarding nonstate national identities. The complexities and effects of emotions are explored in a variety of forms—political rhetoric, literature, personal letters, medical writing, cinema, graphic art, soap opera, journalism, popular music, digital media—with attention paid to broader European and transatlantic implications.

Book Murder in the Multinational State

Download or read book Murder in the Multinational State written by Stewart King and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-05-23 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Spaniards set out to transform the political, social and cultural landscape of the nation following the death of dictator Francisco Franco in 1975, its crime fiction traces, challenges and celebrates these radical changes. Crime Fiction from Spain: Murder in the Multinational State provides a comprehensive exploration of the relationship between detective fiction and national and cultural identities in post-Franco democratic Spain. What sort of stories are told about the nation within the state in the crime genre? How do the conventions of the crime story shape not only the production of national and cultural identities, but also their disruption? Combining criminological theories of crime and community with an analysis of the genre’s conventions, this study challenges the simple classification of Spanish crime fiction as texts written by Spaniards, set in Spain and with Spanish characters. Instead, it develops a dramatic new reading practice which allows for a greater understanding of the role of crime fiction in the construction and articulation of different and, at times, competing, national and cultural identities, including in the Basque Country, Catalonia and Galicia. The book provides a stimulating introduction to the key debates on the study of crime fiction and national and cultural identities in the context of a multinational state.
