While the analysis is intended primarily for scholars interested in Latin American authors, every effort has been made to facilitate a reading by the non-specialist."--BOOK JACKET.
Download or read book Law Anthropology written by René Kuppe and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2024-01-08 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Law & Anthropology Yearbook brings together a collection of studies that discuss legal problems raised by cultural differences between people and the law to which they are subject. Volume 10 of Law & Anthropology includes eight studies that discuss various forms in which the rights of indigenous people are violated. Topics include: the way in which the seemingly neutral criminal justice system of Canada discriminates against aboriginal people; the fact that land rights issues of indigenous peoples cannot be separated from political rights; the conceptual differences between the human rights concepts underlying the modern international system, and the concepts behind human rights as these are understood in the Guatemalan Highlands; and the relationship between the rights of indigenous peoples and upcoming new standards of environmental law.
Download or read book Juan Sebastian Bach written by Adalberto García De Mendoza and published by Palibrio. This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book La pesadilla que no acaba nunca written by Christian Laval and published by Editorial GEDISA. This book was released on 2017-05 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Finding Solutions for a Post Crisis Society written by Teresa Torres-Coronas and published by PUBLICACIONS UNIVERSITAT ROVIRA I VIRGILI. This book was released on 2015-12-28 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 2007 and the economic meltdown caused by the financial crisis, our societies have been evolving in different ways. New political movements have emerged in Southern Europe and new social movements in pursuit of common concerns are playing a more active role in our daily lives. In a parallel way, after the failure to predict the financial crisis, economist and social science researchers seek fresh thinking and new models that can better explain this new reality. Regulations are of critical importance in shaping the welfare of economies and society. Thus, core legal disciplines are exploring the effects of the financial crisis on social rights, labour market regulations, and civil, common law or international law, among others. With no doubt, the economic crisis has deeply impacted our economic, social, political and legal environment. During the last decade, researchers from a wide range of disciplines have been looking for solutions. Now it is time make a side stop on the way and to gather results. The 1rst International SBRLab Conference, Finding solutions for a post-crisis society, is organized by the Social and Business Research Lab (SBRLab), Universitat Rovira i Virgili. It is as an international and virtual meeting point of interdisciplinary research and researchers. The purpose of this international conference is to bring together researchers from management, economics, political, social and legal disciplines in order to present and discuss new trends in their respective fields.

This book was released on 1991-10-01 with total page 1070 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edition of the "Inter-American Yearbook on Human Rights," like the volumes that precede it, includes information concerning the activities of the Organization of American States in the promotion and protection of human rights. It begins with the composition of the Commission and Court, including the biographies of the members, 1988 activities of each body, reproductions of resolutions and reports by the Commission and historic correspondences and decisions by the Court. Also included is an update on the status of the American Convention on Human Rights, which reports the relation of each country to that instrument, followed by resolutions adopted in 1988 by the OAS General Assembly. The year 1988 distinguished itself particularly because the Inter-American Court of Human Rights made its first decision on a contentious case, the "Velasquez Rodriguez" case (Honduras). This historic decision is reproduced in Part Three of this volume. Another important 1988 development in the Inter-American system was the Protocol of San Salvador, or Additional Protocol to the American Convention on Human Rights for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, reproduced in Part Four. Also included, in its entirety, is a report on the human rights situation in Haiti, a report requested by the Organization of American States Permanent Council in Resolution 502. The "Inter-American Yearbook on Human Rights" is completely bilingual (English and Spanish).

Download or read book The Children of Solaga written by Daina Sanchez and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2024-12-03 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Daina Sanchez examines how Indigenous Oaxacan youth form racial, ethnic, community, and national identities away from their ancestral homeland. Assumptions that Indigenous peoples have disappeared altogether, or that Indigenous identities are fixed, persist in the popular imagination. This is far from the truth. Sanchez demonstrates how Indigenous immigrants continually remake their identities and ties to their homelands while navigating racial and social institutions in the U.S. and Latin America, and, in doing so, transform notions of Indigeneity and push the boundaries of Latinidad. Drawing on long-term ethnographic fieldwork between Los Angeles, California and San Andrés Solaga, a Zapotec town in the Mexican state of Oaxaca, The Children of Solaga centers Indigenous ways of knowing and being in the world, and adds a much-needed transnational dimension to the study of Indigenous immigrant adaptation and assimilation. Sanchez, herself a diasporic Solagueña, argues that the lived experiences of Indigenous immigrants offer a unique vantage point from which to see how migration across settler-borders transforms processes of self-making among displaced Indigenous people. Rather than accept attempts by both Mexico and the U.S. to erase their Indigenous identities or give in to anti-Indigenous and anti-immigrant prejudice, Oaxacan immigrants and their children defiantly celebrate their Indigenous identities through practices of el goce comunal ("communal joy") in their new homes.
