Download or read book Canadian Cultural Exchange changes culturels au Canada written by Norman Cheadle and published by Wilfrid Laurier Univ. Press. This book was released on 2011-04-07 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essays in Canadian Cultural Exchange / Échanges culturels au Canada provide a nuanced view of Canadian transcultural experience. Rather than considering Canada as a bicultural dichotomy of colonizer/colonized, this book examines a field of many cultures and the creative interactions among them. This study discusses, from various perspectives, Canadian cultural space as being in process of continual translation of both the other and oneself.
Download or read book Reordering of Culture written by Alvina Ruprecht and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 1995-11-15 with total page 601 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Political, economic and social barriers among Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada are giving way to global forces and the "global dreams" they inspire. This collection of original articles and essays examines popular culture, literature, theatre, belief systems, indigenous practices and questions of identity, exile and alienation. The interconnectedness and distinction of cultural production throughout the Americas, "transplanted" interests, the mediation of African and European influences, and the expression of shifting identities, all reflect the development of a new American neighbourhood.
Download or read book Acculturation written by International Comparative Literature Association. Congress and published by [Bern : New York] : P. Lang. This book was released on 1994 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of acculturation lies at the heart of Comparative Literature in its relationship to cultural studies. It attempts to capture and to articulate the nature of the interaction of cultures through literary texts. In the past, acculturation has often manifested itself through the dominance of an invading or invasive culture over another; in fact, it has not infrequently been synonymous with the subjection of non-European cultures to Western civilization. Yet, it can be shown that the receptor culture, far from being passive, has the ability to appropriate and transform the invader culture which in turn undergoes acculturation, a dynamic of great complexity, never at a standstill. Many of the phenomena described in this volume relate to the second type of acculturation, which is no longer a more or less official program of enforced cultural adaptation, but a far more pervasive and spontaneous movement of feedback which can indeed be reciprocal and eventually lead to intercultural dialogue.

Download or read book A defence of armed Art Struggle written by Óscar Guardiola-Rivera and published by Editorial Tadeo Lozano. This book was released on 2019-08-16 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Such obsessive antinomian attitude and constraint, which I have provocatively termed “armed” struggle in the way to (rather than as the opposite of) peace, present as spirit, collective effervescence, combat, or phantasm in institutionalizing or constitutive rituals (exemplified by the oath by sceptre episode in classical literature, and often imagined as an original “contract” authorized by a generic “will” that legitimates law in modern literature), is represented under the political economy of the industrial-colonial regime in a state of suspension or “emergency”. In this respect, as suggested above, the “state of emergency” that according to Benjamin has become the rule isn’t the consequence of violence. On the contrary, it’s the attempt to suspend combat, to externally impose upon peoples a fictive unity (the unity of their ‘needs’) and to extract from peoples their ability to use force as well as do battle against the sovereign.
