Book El Arte de Persuadir y Negociar

Download or read book El Arte de Persuadir y Negociar written by Lams Bellamy and published by . This book was released on 2020-04-14 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Engagement in Professional Genres

Download or read book Engagement in Professional Genres written by Carmen Sancho Guinda and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2019-04-24 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engagement has turned essential in today’s communication, as professional communities are becoming more specialised and transient, and their audiences more diverse. Promotionalism and competitiveness, in addition, increasingly pervade human activity, and thus engaging readers, listeners and viewers to attract and persuade them is part of the know-how of almost every profession. The eighteen chapters in this book, written by well-known discourse analysts from different nationalities and research backgrounds, and with various interests and understandings of communicative engagement, guide us through a discovery of perspectives and strategies across work settings and practices, genres, semiotic modes, discourses, disciplines, and theoretical frameworks and methods. They build a mosaic that leads to a broad picture of (meta)discursive engagement as (di)stance and raises current issues, challenges, and future research directions.

Book A New Reference Grammar of Modern Spanish

Download or read book A New Reference Grammar of Modern Spanish written by John Butt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 533 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: (abridged and revised) This reference grammar offers intermediate and advanced students a reason ably comprehensive guide to the morphology and syntax of educated speech and plain prose in Spain and Latin America at the end of the twentieth century. Spanish is the main, usually the sole official language of twenty-one countries,} and it is set fair to overtake English by the year 2000 in numbers 2 of native speakers. This vast geographical and political diversity ensures that Spanish is a good deal less unified than French, German or even English, the latter more or less internationally standardized according to either American or British norms. Until the 1960s, the criteria of internationally correct Spanish were dictated by the Real Academia Espanola, but the prestige of this institution has now sunk so low that its most solemn decrees are hardly taken seriously - witness the fate of the spelling reforms listed in the Nuevas normas de prosodia y ortograjia, which were supposed to come into force in all Spanish-speaking countries in 1959 and, nearly forty years later, are still selectively ignored by publishers and literate persons everywhere. The fact is that in Spanish 'correctness' is nowadays decided, as it is in all living languages, by the consensus of native speakers; but consensus about linguistic usage is obviously difficult to achieve between more than twenty independent, widely scattered and sometimes mutually hostile countries. Peninsular Spanish is itself in flux.

Book The Design Politics of the Passport

Download or read book The Design Politics of the Passport written by Mahmoud Keshavarz and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2018-12-13 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Design Politics of the Passport presents an innovative study of the passport and its associated social, political and material practices as a means of uncovering the workings of 'design politics'. It traces the histories, technologies, power relations and contestations around this small but powerful artefact to establish a framework for understanding how design is always enmeshed in the political, and how politics can be understood in terms of material objects. Combining design studies with critical border studies, alongside ethnographic work among undocumented migrants, border transgressors and passport forgers, this book shows how a world made and designed as open and hospitable to some is strictly enclosed, confined and demarcated for many others - and how those affected by such injustices dissent from the immobilities imposed on them through the same capacity of design and artifice.

Book Social Network Theory and Educational Change

Download or read book Social Network Theory and Educational Change written by Alan J. Daly and published by Harvard Education Press. This book was released on 2010-12-01 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Social Network Theory and Educational Change offers a provocative and fascinating exploration of how social networks in schools can impede or facilitate the work of education reform. Drawing on the work of leading scholars, the book comprises a series of studies examining networks among teachers and school leaders, contrasting formal and informal organizational structures, and exploring the mechanisms by which ideas, information, and influence flow from person to person and group to group. The case studies provided in the book reflect a rich variety of approaches and methodologies, showcasing the range and power of this dynamic new mode of analysis. An introductory chapter places social network theory in context and explains the basic tools and concepts, while a concluding chapter points toward new directions in the field. Taken together, they make a powerful statement: that the success or failure of education reform ultimately is not solely the result of technical plans and blueprints, but of the relational ties that support or constrain the pace, depth, and direction of change. This unique volume provides an invaluable introduction to an emerging and increasingly important field of education research.
