Book EKA Volume III

Download or read book EKA Volume III written by Erica Moore and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2007-08 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: EKA, On Our Own, 1943-1950 EKA the multi-volume memoir is a song, Erica's song, a spiritual, sung about her life and God; how she followed her spirituality, her feelings, the waiting, worrying, then knowing the way, heart singing, through many passages in her long, long life. Erica Maria Johanna Grossgerge was born in the German capitol of Berlin on the first day of January, nineteen hundred and eleven: 1/1/11. Her life spans most of the twentieth century and she considers herself blessed to have met so many spiritual figures important to the world's well-being. As a young adult Erica was continually drawn towards the English speaking world, first by the film "Showboat", then by her employment in American and English companies. In Munich she met and fell in love with the son of an American diplomat. After becoming engaged, the couple moved to England, she to work as an au pair while he attended Cambridge, where they got married. With an offer for her husband to teach German while studying for his PhD at Stanford University, the couple moved to America in 1938. In California, Erica was introduced to Eastern mysticism and Sufi thought, finding the first true path that resonated with her spirituality, which she has developed throughout her long life. Due to her husband's failed academic life, they moved into his retired parent's house down in the small town of Summerland, near beautiful Santa Barbara. There, Erica gave birth to her two sons, Michael and Daniel, and began her life as a mother. She moved out on her own, supporting herself and her sons with bookkeeping jobs while trying to start a printing press business. Following her heart as always, she moved her family again to a farm at the School of the Natural Order in San Marcos to further pursue her spiritual path studying under the American master Vitvan. Many paths and many years later, the book EKA was written.

Book The Egyptian Heaven and Hell Volume III Routledge Revivals

Download or read book The Egyptian Heaven and Hell Volume III Routledge Revivals written by E. A. Wallis Budge and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-08-01 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the third of three volumes, first published in 1906, which treat the Egyptian theology of the afterlife. The first volume contains the complete hieroglyphic text of the Book Åm-Țuat, with translations and reproductions of all the illustrations; the second, the hieroglyphic text of the short form of the Åm-Tuat and the Book of Gates. This volume explores the origin of the Books of the Other World, highlighting and comparing the most remarkable features, with prefatory remarks and a full index to the whole work. The object of all the Books of the Other World was to provide the dead with a ‘guide’ or ‘handbook,’ containing a description of the regions through which their souls would have to pass on their way to the Kingdom of Osiris, and which would supply them with the words of power and magical names necessary for an unimpeded journey from this world to the next.

Book The Ubiquitous Siva Volume II

Download or read book The Ubiquitous Siva Volume II written by John Nemec and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021-03-18 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a sequel to a volume published in 2011 by OUP under the title The Ubiquitous 'Siva: Som=ananda's 'Sivad.r.s.ti and his Tantric Interlocutors. The first volume offered an introduction, critical edition, and annotated translation of the first three chapters of the 'Sivad.r.s.ti of Som=ananda, along with its principal commentary, the 'Sivad.r.s.tiv.rtti, written by Utpaladeva. It dealt primarily with 'Saiva theology and the religious views of competing esoteric traditions. The present volume presents the fourth chapter of the 'Sivad.r.s.ti and 'Sivad.r.s.tiv.rtti and addresses a fresh set of issues that engage a distinct family of opposing schools and authors of mainstream Indian philosophical traditions. In this fourth chapter, Som=ananda and Utpaladeva engage logical and philosophical works that exerted tremendous influence in the Indian subcontinent in its premodernity. Among the authors and schools addressed by Som=ananda in this chapter are the Buddhist Epistemologists, and Dharmak=irti in particular; the Hindu school of hermeneutics, i.e., the M=im=a.ms=a; the Hindu realist schools of the logic- and debate-oriented Ny=aya and their ontologically-oriented partners, the Vaiśe.sika; and the Hindu, dualist S=a.mkhya and Yoga schools. Throughout this chapter, Som=ananda endeavors to explain his brand of 'Saivism philosophically. Som=ananda challenges his philosophical interlocutors with a single over-arching argument: he suggests that their views cannot coherethey cannot be explained logicallyunless their authors accept the 'Saiva non-duality for which he advocates. The argument he offers, despite its historical influence, remains virtually unstudied. The Ubiquitous 'Siva Volume II offers the first English translation of Chapter Four of the 'Sivad.r.s.ti and 'Sivad.r.s.tiv.rtti along with an introduction and critical edition.

Book Mahabharata Book Three Volume 4

Download or read book Mahabharata Book Three Volume 4 written by and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2017-12-01 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Slender lady, I came out with you to gather fruit. I got a pain in my head and fell asleep in your lap. Then I saw a terrible darkness and a mighty person. If you know, then tell me - was it my dream? Or was what I saw real?” So speaks Satyavat, newly rescued from the god of death by Savitri, his faithful wife, at the heart of one of the best loved stories in Indian literature. This, and other well known narratives, including a version of Rama's story, bring the Forest Book of the great Sanskrit epic, the Maha·bhárata, to its compelling conclusion. Woven into the main narrative of the Pandavas’ exile, these disparate episodes indicate the range and poetic power of the Maha·bhárata as a whole—a power that has the potential to speak to common human concerns across cultures and centuries. “The Forest” is Book Three of the Maha·bhárata, “The Great Book of India.” This final quarter of the account of the Pándavas’ twelve-year exile in the forest contains four stirring stories that are among the best known in Indian literature. From a hero overcoming great odds, to a virtuous wife who rescues her family, and Indra tricking Karna, and Yudhi·shthira’s victory in the verbal contest with the tree spirit, these stories speak to common human concerns across cultures and centuries.
