Book Australian Coastal Systems

Download or read book Australian Coastal Systems written by Andrew D. Short and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-08-29 with total page 1261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the entire coast and beaches and barrier systems of Australia. It covers the coastal processes and systems that form and impact Australia's 30.000 km coast, 12.000 beaches and 2750 barrier systems. These processes include geology, geomorphology, climate, waves, tides, currents, sediment supply, as well as coastal ecosystems. The coast is divided into tropical northern and southern temperate provinces, within which are seven divisions, 23 regions and 354 coastal sediment compartments each of which is described in detail in the 34 chapters. Within these systems are the full range of wave through tide-dominated beaches and barriers ranging from cheniers to massive transgressive dune systems together with a range of onshore and longshore sand transport systems. This is an up to date reference for the entire coast, its present condition and likely responses to the impacts of climate change.

Book Coastal Engineering

Download or read book Coastal Engineering written by Dominic Reeve and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-03-09 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Effective coastal engineering is expensive, but it is not as costly as neglect or ineffective intervention. Good practice needs to be based on sound principles, but theoretical work and modelling also need to be well grounded in practice, which is continuously evolving. Conceptual and detailed design has been advanced by new industry publications since the publication of the second edition. This third edition provides a number of updates: the sections on wave overtopping have been updated to reflect changes brought in with the recently issued EurOtop II manual; a detailed worked example is given of the calculation of extreme wave conditions for design; additional examples have been included on the reliability of structures and probabilistic design; the method for tidal analysis and calculation of amplitudes and phases of harmonic constituents from water level time series has been introduced in a new appendix together with a worked example of harmonic analysis; and a real-life example is included of a design adapting to climate change. This book is especially useful as an information source for undergraduates and engineering MSc students specializing in coastal engineering and management. Readers require a good grounding in basic fluid mechanics or engineering hydraulics, and some familiarity with elementary statistical concepts.

Book Coastal Processes III

Download or read book Coastal Processes III written by G. R. Rodriguez and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2013 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Containing papers presented at the Third International Conference on Physical Coastal Processes, Management and Engineering, this book examines coastal zone dynamics, which involve complex interactions between the atmosphere, ocean, and land. Management of coastal zones is dependent on a number of factors. Large temporal and spatial differences in air-sea exchange processes and wind strength and direction result from the complex interactions referred to above. Recreational and tourism activities make demands on coastal areas. With the number and frequency of extreme events due increases with climate change, their role in changing coastal zones also needs to be considered. The book considers also of these and covers such topics as: Wave modelling; Hydrodynamic modelling; Effects of climate change in coastal zones; Coastal defences; Energy recovery; Sediment transport and erosion; Pollution and water quality; Planning and beach design; Coastal morphology; Coastal processes and navigation; Coastal processes and GIS; Bio-physical coastal processes; Remote sensing; Systems approach; Coastal zone management; Impact and recovery from tsunamis; Impact of storms and extreme events; Ecosystems modelling; Coastal lagoons; Coastal oceanography; Socio-environmental issues.

Book Porous Models for Wave seabed Interactions

Download or read book Porous Models for Wave seabed Interactions written by Dong-Sheng Jeng and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-18 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Porous Models for Wave-seabed Interactions" discusses the Phenomenon of wave-seabed interactions, which is a vital issue for coastal and geotechnical engineers involved in the design of foundations for marine structures such as pipelines, breakwaters, platforms, etc. The most important sections of this book will be the fully detailed theoretical models of wave-seabed interaction problem, which are particularly useful for postgraduate students and junior researchers entering the discipline of marine geotechnics and offshore engineering. This book also converts the research outcomes of theoretical studies to engineering applications that will provide front-line engineers with practical and effective tools in the assessment of seabed instability in engineering design. Prof. Dong-Sheng Jeng works at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China.
