Book Egg Innovations and Strategies for Improvements

Download or read book Egg Innovations and Strategies for Improvements written by Patricia Hester and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2016-12-19 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Egg Innovations and Strategies for Improvements examines the production of eggs from their development to human consumption. Chapters also address consumer acceptance, quality control, regulatory aspects, cost and risk analyses, and research trends. Eggs are a rich source of macro- and micronutrients which are consumed not only by themselves, but also within the matrix of food products, such as pastas, cakes, and pastries. A wholesome, versatile food with a balanced array of essential nutrients, eggs are a stable of the human diet. Emerging strategies entail improvements to the composition of eggs via fortification or biological enrichment of hen's feed with polyunsaturated fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins, or minerals. Conversely, eggs can be a source of food-borne disease or pollutants that can have effects on not only human health, but also egg production and commercial viability. Written by an international team of experts, the book presents a unique overview of the biology and science of egg production, nutrient profiling, disease, and modes for increasing their production and quality. Designed for poultry and food scientists, technologists, microbiologists, and workers in public health and the food and egg industries, the book is valuable as an industrial reference and as a resource in academic libraries. - Focuses on the production and food science aspects of eggs - Includes a broad range of microbial contaminants, their risks, and prevention, as well as non-microbial contaminant risks - Presents analytical techniques for practical application

Book The Common Tern

    Book Details:
  • Author : Joanna Burger
  • Publisher : iUniverse
  • Release : 1991
  • ISBN : 1583481109
  • Pages : 434 pages

Download or read book The Common Tern written by Joanna Burger and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 1991 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than twenty years the authors studied the complex breeding and social behavior of colonies of terns. A significant dynamic of their social behavior is their “mobbing” behavior when they aggressively defend their nests against predators and will attack intruders, including human beings. Analysis of this and other behaviors as they affect breeding and population provide fascinating insights in the study of birds.

Book Ecological Comparisons of Sedimentary Shores

Download or read book Ecological Comparisons of Sedimentary Shores written by K. Reise and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sedimentary coasts with their unique forms of life and productive ecosystems are one of the most threatened parts of the biosphere. This volume analyzes and compares ecological structures and processes at sandy beaches, tidal mudflats and in shallow coastal waters all around the world. Analyses of local processes are paired with comparisons between distant shores, across latitudinal gradients or between separate biogeographic provinces. Emphasis is given to suspension feeders in coastal mud and sand, to biogenic stabilizations and disturbances in coastal sediments, to seagrass beds and faunal assemblages across latitudes and oceans, to recovery dynamics in benthic communities, shorebird predation, and to experimental approaches to the biota of sedimentary shores.

Book Coastal Waders and Wildfowl in Winter

Download or read book Coastal Waders and Wildfowl in Winter written by P. R. Evans and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-06-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 1984 book arose from an international meeting held at Texel in the Netherlands in April 1981 to discuss the feeding requirements and behaviour of shorebirds and coastal wildfowl. The book was designed both for general ornithologists, so that they may advise planners concerned with coastal wetlands, and for research workers interested in bird ecology and behaviour. The book is divided into three sections, each the responsibility of one of the editors, who provides a brief section introduction. The first covers bird numbers in relation to food resources; the second relates population densities to social and individual behaviour of birds within the flocks, and the third examines the role of areas of particular significance to migrant shorebirds along the route from West Africa to the high-latitude breeding grounds stretching from Greenland to western Siberia. This volume was produced in conjunction with the British Ornithologists' Union.

Book Seabird Ecology

  • Author : R. W. Furness
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 1461320933
  • Pages : 210 pages

Download or read book Seabird Ecology written by R. W. Furness and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last few years there has been an excltmg upsurge in seabird research. There are several reasons for this. Man's increased ex ploitation of natural resources has led to a greater awareness of the potential conflicts with seabirds, and of the use of seabirds to indicate the damage we might be doing to our environment. Many seabird populations have increased dramatically in numbers and so seem more likely to conflict with man, for example through competition for food or transmission of diseases. Oil exploration and production has resulted in major studies of seabird distributions and ecology in relation to oil pollution. The possibility that seabirds may provide information on fish stock biology is now being critically investigated. Some seabird species have suffered serious declines in numbers and require conservation action to be taken to reduce the chances that they will become extinct. This requires an understanding of the factors determining their population size and dynamics.
