Book Sound Scattering by Cylinders of Noncircular Cross Section

Download or read book Sound Scattering by Cylinders of Noncircular Cross Section written by Daniel T. DiPerna and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis investigates a new method for predicting the farfield scattered pressure of a plane wave due to an infinite cylinder of noncircular cross section. Both impenetrable and penetrable :fluid boundary condi tions will be treated for several types of cross sections and for a large frequency range. This new method requires the conformal mapping of both the exterior and interior of a closed surface to a semi-infinite strip. Numerically efficient algorithms wi ll be presented for both of these cases. A new method for satisfying the boundary conditions will be developed, as well as an efficient algorithm for generating the required modal functions on the boundary. Numerical results are presented for cross sections in the shape of an ellipse, square, and three leaf clover. In all cases, the results compare extremely well with exact or high frequency asymptotic results.

Book Acoustic and Electromagnetic Scattering Analysis Using Discrete Sources

Download or read book Acoustic and Electromagnetic Scattering Analysis Using Discrete Sources written by Adrian Doicu and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2000-07-06 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discrete sources method is an efficient and powerful tool for solving a large class of boundary-value problems in scattering theory. A variety of numerical methods for discrete sources now exist. In this book, the authors unify these formulations in the context of the so-called discrete sources method. Comprehensive presentation of the discrete sources method Original theory - an extension of the conventional null-field method using discrete sources Practical examples that demonstrate the efficiency and flexibility of elaborated methods (scattering by particles with high aspect ratio, rough particles, nonaxisymmetric particles, multiple scattering) List of discrete sources programmes available via the Internet

Book Underwater Scattering and Radiation

Download or read book Underwater Scattering and Radiation written by Allan D. Pierce and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Underwater Scattering and Radiation describes the relevant theoretical foundations of underwater scattering and radiation. Acoustic scattering from elastic solids is discussed, and variational formulations in acoustic radiation and scattering are presented. Surface waves and quasi-cylindrical modes are also explored, along with the Helmholtz-Kirchhoff integral corollaries. Comprised of two chapters, this volume begins with a comprehensive account of scattering by elastic objects, focusing on the classic idealized shapes of spheres and infinite cylinders. The reader is introduced to important concepts such as normal modes, the S-matrix, and the T-matrix as well as resonances, whispering gallery modes, Franz modes, and Stoneley waves. Subsequent sections describe methods for treating scattering by elastic bodies of more general shapes. The T-matrix formalism is discussed and then applied to spheroidal scatterers and finite cylinders. The second chapter analyzes how variational principles can be used in acoustics, with the choice of topics directed toward applications to underwater acoustic radiation and scattering. This book will be of interest to physicists.

Book Sound Scattering on Spherical Objects

Download or read book Sound Scattering on Spherical Objects written by Tom Rother and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-02-13 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces readers to scattering from a practical/numerical point of view. The focus is on basic aspects like single scattering, multiple scattering, and whether inhomogeneous boundary conditions or inhomogeneous scatterers have to be taken into account. The powerful T-matrix approach is explained in detail and used throughout the book, and iterative solution methods are discussed. In addition, the book addresses appropriate criteria for estimating the accuracy of numerical results, as well as their importance for practical applications. Python code is provided with each chapter, and can be freely used and modified by readers. Moreover, numerous scattering results for different configurations are provided for benchmarking purposes. The book will be particularly valuable for those readers who plan to develop their own scattering code, and wish to test the correct numerical implementation of the underlying mathematics.

Book Inverse Acoustic and Electromagnetic Scattering Theory

Download or read book Inverse Acoustic and Electromagnetic Scattering Theory written by David Colton and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-26 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inverse scattering problem is central to many areas of science and technology such as radar and sonar, medical imaging, geophysical exploration and nondestructive testing. This book is devoted to the mathematical and numerical analysis of the inverse scattering problem for acoustic and electromagnetic waves. In this third edition, new sections have been added on the linear sampling and factorization methods for solving the inverse scattering problem as well as expanded treatments of iteration methods and uniqueness theorems for the inverse obstacle problem. These additions have in turn required an expanded presentation of both transmission eigenvalues and boundary integral equations in Sobolev spaces. As in the previous editions, emphasis has been given to simplicity over generality thus providing the reader with an accessible introduction to the field of inverse scattering theory. Review of earlier editions: “Colton and Kress have written a scholarly, state of the art account of their view of direct and inverse scattering. The book is a pleasure to read as a graduate text or to dip into at leisure. It suggests a number of open problems and will be a source of inspiration for many years to come.” SIAM Review, September 1994 “This book should be on the desk of any researcher, any student, any teacher interested in scattering theory.” Mathematical Intelligencer, June 1994
