Book Efficient Model for HF Lasers with Rotational Nonequilibrium

Download or read book Efficient Model for HF Lasers with Rotational Nonequilibrium written by Joseph J. T. Hough and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method for modeling rotational nonequilibrium in HF(DF) laser systems that significantly reduces the computation time required for such calculations is described. With this formulation, an approximation can be obtained of the nonequilibrium optical gains of the individual v, J transitions without computing the individual populations for each v, J state, which appreciably reduces the number of integration variables. The predictions of a pulsed H2-F2 laser model utilizing this approach are very similar to the predictions of a more complex model. The computational economy gained makes feasible parametric studies to improve understanding of the importance of rotational relaxation in laser calculations. (Author).

Book An Efficient Rotational Nonequilibrium Model of a CW Chemical Laser

Download or read book An Efficient Rotational Nonequilibrium Model of a CW Chemical Laser written by Lee H. Sentman and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An efficient rotational nonequilibrium model of a cw chemical laser was developed. The essential elements of the model and their influence on laser performance were shown by detailed comparison with a model which contains boundary layer flow striations, F atom wall recombination and detailed, finite rate kinetics (typically 21 species and 143 reactions). Rotational equilibrium and nonequilibrium species profiles, saturated gains, intensity distributions and power spectral distributions were compared for several cases. The rotational nonequilibrium model was coupled to a physical optics strip resonator code. (Author).

Book The Status of Rotational Nonequilibrium in HF Chemical Lasers

Download or read book The Status of Rotational Nonequilibrium in HF Chemical Lasers written by N. Cohen and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because of the complexity of accounting simultaneously for gas dynamics, optics, and chemical kinetics in HF chemical lasers all computer modeling codes have simplified drastically at least one of these factors. One way to simplify the details of state to state chemistry is to ignore the possibility of rotational nonequilibrium. Rotational nonequilibrium can affect laser power and energy output, time to onset and duration of lasing, and power spectral distribution. This report will review, in turn, evidence for rotational nonequilibrium in HF chemical lasers; processes that can lead to rotational nonequilibrium in HF lasers; rotational relaxation of HF; and modeling studies of rotational nonequilibrium effects in HF chemical lasers. Keywords: Chemical lasers; Hydrogen fluoride; Energy transfer; Rotational relaxation; and Rotational energy transfer.

Book Rotational Nonequilibrium Influences in CW HF DF Chemical Lasers

Download or read book Rotational Nonequilibrium Influences in CW HF DF Chemical Lasers written by S. W. Zelazny and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theory is presented which considers either rotational equilibrium or nonequilibrium rate processes in continuous wave (CW) hydrogen fluoride (HF) or deuterium fluoride (DF) lasers. The theory is used to predict zero power gain and power spectral distributions and comparisons are made with experimental observations. The DF reaction kinetics model was found to give predictions of zero power gain which were closely correlated with experimental data. However, the HF reaction kinetics were found to produce radically different zero power gains than experimentally observed. Modifications to the reaction rages of certain vibrational-translational and vibrational-vibrational energy exchange processes were found to remove the discrepancy between the measured and predicted zero power gains. The rotational nonequilibrium theory was used to predict the power spectral distributions for HF and DF lasers and results were found to be consistent with experimental data.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains eight invited papers and seventy-three contributed papers presented at the Fourth International Symposium on Gas Flow and Chemical Lasers. which was held in Stresa. Italy. from September 13 to 17. 1984. The purpose of the Symposium was to record and discuss current research developments and applications related to high power lasers. Papers were solicited from the entire spectrum of activities, includ ing basic physics, aerothermodynamics, new laser media, laser design, diagnostic techniques, laser propagation. interaction phenom ena, applications. The Symposium was an opportunity for scientists and engineers representing all these disciplines to come together to report their recent work, to exchange ideas and to provide an up-to-date account of international progress in these fields. The contributed papers were reviewed by the members of the Scientific Advisory CoEmittee. who also took responsibility for formulating the program of invited lectures. As editor I wish to express my appreciation and my gratitude to people and organizations that made this Symposium a success: the Members of the Scientific Advisory Committee, the Members of the Local Organizing Committee, the Sponsors and the Symposium Secretary. A grateful acknowledgement is expressed to Dr. M. Sandra Oggiano for assistance in the organization of the Symposium and publication of these proceedings.

Book Effects of Translational and Rotational Nonequilibrium on Continuous Wave Chemical Laser Performance

Download or read book Effects of Translational and Rotational Nonequilibrium on Continuous Wave Chemical Laser Performance written by Harold Mirels and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A previous model used to describe continuous wave (cw) chemical laser performance is generalized to include rotational as well as translational nonequilibrium. The resultant equations are simplified by the realistic assumption that translational and rotational relaxation rates are fast compared with convection, chemical pumping, and collisional deactivation rates. As a consequence, translational and rotational relaxation rates are in equilibrium with stimulated emission. The resultant system of equations is independent of rotational relaxation. An amplifier solution is presented that predicts saturation effects in accord with experiments. Fabry-Perot oscillator solutions are also presented for a multiline saturated laser and for a partly saturated single-lien laser. The present results provide a base for simplification of numerical codes. It is concluded that a resonable first estimate for cw chemical laser performance can be obtained by assuming rotational equilibrium and translational nonequilibrium. Keywords: Chemical laser model, Chemical lasers; Continuous wave.

Book Computer Modeling of Pulsed Chemical Lasers

Download or read book Computer Modeling of Pulsed Chemical Lasers written by R. L. Kerber and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this research is to quantify laser pulse energy and intensity on P-branch and rotational lasing transitions and provide data from well-defined experiments for interpretation and analysis of computational studies of HF and DF chemical lasers. A compendium of technical reports and publications on rotational non-equilibrium effects in the HF and DF lasers is presented. Modeling efforts have assessed the sensitivity of laser performance to various kinetic mechanisms. The importance of rotational non-equilibrium is identified and the possible effect of vibrational to rotational energy transfer on P-branch and rotational lasing is considered.
