Book Electron Beam Collector with a Low Back Flow

Download or read book Electron Beam Collector with a Low Back Flow written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Generation of a DC electron beam in the future Fermilab electron cooler[1] employs an electrostatic acceleration and a beam energy recovery, so that electrons are decelerated from the nominal energy of 4.3 MeV they have in the cooling section to few keV in the collector. Stable performance of this scheme requires a current loss[delta]I below 10[micro]A at the beam current up to the nominal value of I= 0.5 A. One of sources of the loss is a back flow of secondary electrons from the beam collector. The paper discusses principles and performance of a collector with the low current loss. Electric and magnetic fields in the collectors used in existing electron coolers are axially symmetrical. For practically interesting parameters, such collectors can not provide[delta]I/I

Book Performance of the Fermilab s 4 3 MeV Electron Cooler

Download or read book Performance of the Fermilab s 4 3 MeV Electron Cooler written by C. W. Schmidt and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A 4.3 MeV DC electron beam is used to cool longitudinally an antiproton beam in the Fermilab's Recycler ring. Cooling capabilities of the electron beam are characterized by the drag rate that was measured at various conditions. Fitting the results with a formula for non-magnetized cooling gives electron parameters that agree within a factor of 2 with independently measured electron beam properties.

Book Status of the Fermilab Electron Cooling Recirculation Project

Download or read book Status of the Fermilab Electron Cooling Recirculation Project written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The electron cooling project requires a high current electron beam with high reliability to provide the consistent cooling required by Fermilab's physics program. We are using a 5URE-2 Pelletron to provide this beam. The program is developing a high current DC recirculating electron beam with high recovery efficiency. The present layout uses 2 sets of tubes with acceleration, a 180{sup o} bend, and deceleration for a total of about 10 meters of beam line. The project's nominal operating parameters are .5 A at 4.3 MeV with the emission cathode immersed in a 200-600 G magnetic field.

Book Summary of Fermilab s Recycler Electron Cooler Operation and Studies

Download or read book Summary of Fermilab s Recycler Electron Cooler Operation and Studies written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fermilab's Recycler ring was used as a storage ring for accumulation and subsequent manipulations of 8 GeV antiprotons destined for the Tevatron collider. To satisfy these missions, a unique electron cooling system was designed, developed and successfully implemented. The most important features that distinguish the Recycler cooler from other existing electron coolers are its relativistic energy, 4.3 MV combined with 0.1-0.5 A DC beam current, a weak continuous longitudinal magnetic field in the cooling section, 100 G, and lumped focusing elsewhere. With the termination of the Tevatron collider operation, so did the cooler. In this article, we summarize the experience of running this unique machine.

Book Survey and Alignment of the Fermilab Electron Cooling System

Download or read book Survey and Alignment of the Fermilab Electron Cooling System written by Babatunde O'Sheg Oshinowo and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of achieving the Tevatron luminosity of 3 x 10{sup 32} cm{sup -2}s{sup -1} requires Electron Cooling in the Recycler Ring to provide an increased flux of antiprotons. The Fermilab Electron Cooling system has been designed to assist accumulation of antiprotons for the Tevatron collider operations. The installation along with the survey and alignment of the Electron Cooling system in the Recycler Ring were completed in November 2004. The Electron Cooling system was fully commissioned in May 2005 and the first cooling of antiprotons was achieved in July 2005. This paper discusses the alignment methodology employed to survey and align the Electron Cooling system.

Book Techniques and Concepts of High Energy Physics VI

Download or read book Techniques and Concepts of High Energy Physics VI written by Thomas Ferbel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sixth Advanced Study Institute (ASI) on Techniques and Concepts of High Energy Physics was held at the Club St. Croix, in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. The ASI brought together a total of 70 participants, from 21 different countries. Despite logistical problems caused by hurricane Hugo, it was a very successful meeting. Hugo's destruction did little to dampen the dedication of the inspiring lecturers and the exceptional enthusiasm of the student body; nevertheless, the immense damage caused to the beautiful island was very saddening indeed. The primary support for the meeting was again provided by the Scientific Affairs Division of NATO. The ASI was cosponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, by Fermilab, by the National Science Foundation, and by the University of Rochester. A special contribution from the Oliver S. and Jennie R. Donaldson Charitable Trust provided an important degree of flexibility, as well as support for worthy students from developing countries. As in the case of the previous ASls, the scientific program was designed for advanced graduate students and recent PhD recipients in experimental particle physics. The present volume of lectures should complement the material published in the first five ASls, and prove to be of value to a wider audience of physicists.
