Book Effects of Training in Strength Shoes symbol for Trademark on Speed Jumping Ability and Calf Girth

Download or read book Effects of Training in Strength Shoes symbol for Trademark on Speed Jumping Ability and Calf Girth written by Scott M. Pethan and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 72 collegiate males between 19-25 years of age were randomized into 1 of 3 groups (24 per group); a control group (CG), a strength shoe group (SSG), or a regular shoe group (RSG). SSG and RSG trained 3x per week for 10 weeks and followed identical programs as prescribed by the manufacturer. SSG wore the Strength Shoe [symbol for trademark] while RSG wore their own athletic shoes. All Ss were tested before and after the 10 weeks for 40 yard dash time (40 TIME), vertical jump (VJUMP), broad jump (BJUMP), and right and left calf girth (RGIRTH & LGIRTH). RESULTS: 22 C, 14 SSG, and 16 RSG completed the study. 7 of the dropouts in SSG were due to injury; 1 of 8 dropouts in RSG was due to injury. Attendance for SSG and RSG averaged 89% of possible workouts. Changes as a result of the program are presented below: (Please view the pdf for table information) SSG had significant (p .05) increases in RGIRTH and LGIRTH from pre to post testing. However, this change was not significantly (p .05) different than either C or RSG. There were no within or between group differences for 40 TIME, VJUMP, or BJUMP as a result of training. These results indicate that even though there was a tendency for training in Strength Shoe [symbol for trademark]s to improve performance, the increases were not significantly greater than training in regular athletic shoes. Additionally, the chances of injury appear to be greater when training in Strength Shoe [symbol for trademark]s.

Book Effects of Barefoot Strength Training on Athletic Performance

Download or read book Effects of Barefoot Strength Training on Athletic Performance written by Brian R. Kownacki and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of barefoot and shod strength training on vertical jump height, lower body maximum strength, sprint speed, and agility were assessed in male high school athletes. All participants were pre-tested in vertical jump height, lower body maximum strength, sprint speed, and agility measurements. The participants were then separated into barefoot (n=15) and shod (n=13) strength training groups. After completing an 8-week strength training protocol, all participants were retested for each measurement of athletic performance. The barefoot and shod training groups showed no significant differences in vertical jump height, lower body maximum strength, sprint speed, and agility. This data showed there was no improvement in any of the measures of athletic performance between the barefoot and shod conditions when strength training for 8 weeks.

Book Strength and Conditioning

Download or read book Strength and Conditioning written by Gavin L. Moir and published by Jones & Bartlett Publishers. This book was released on 2015-02-27 with total page 678 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written for both the undergraduate/graduate level student as well as practitioners in the field, this text incorporates all programming aspects of strength and conditioning including training methods to develop muscular strength and power, flexibility, and the development of effective warm-up regimens. Performance analysis techniques in sport are introduced while the constraints-led approach to motor skills acquisition is presented as a framework that can guide the development of practices for the strength and conditioning practitioner. The biomechanical and motor skill acquisition concepts introduced in the text are then applied to fundamental movements including jumping, landing, and sprint running. Key Features: - Provides a solid introduction to biomechanics pertinent to the study of human movements - Discusses the performance analysis techniques in sport that can be used by the strength and conditioning practitioner to determine the physiological, mechanical, and technical demands of specific sports, and also the assessment of the techniques used in the execution of sport-specific skills - Includes a critical review of the different approaches to motor skill acquisition - Incorporates clear learning objectives and worked examples in each chapter that allow readers to apply the concepts to real-life situations - Discusses the application of the most recent research pertinent to concepts in each chapter - Includes appendices to expand on some of the more complex mathematical techniques required to perform biomechanical analyses and useful resources to aid the student in locating and evaluating scientific evidence.

Sleep 2 hours per day and perform better than on 8 hours? Lose more fat than a marathoner by bingeing? Indeed, and much more. The 4-Hour Body is the result of an obsessive quest, spanning more than a decade, to hack the human body using data science.
