Book Effect of Microstructure on the Fatigue Properties of Ti 6Al 4V Bar

Download or read book Effect of Microstructure on the Fatigue Properties of Ti 6Al 4V Bar written by LJ. Bartlo and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microstructure can have a significant effect on the mechanical properties of titanium alloys. The extent of this effect on the fatigue properties of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy in small diameter bar (0.625 in., 15.875 mm) was studied. Microstructural variations were produced by heat treating from 1550 to 1950 F at 100 F intervals. Three different cooling rates (furnace cooling, air cooling, and water quenching) were employed for each temperature. The room-temperature tensile, smooth, and notch-fatigue properties were evaluated for each thermal condition.

Book Heat Treater s Guide

Download or read book Heat Treater s Guide written by Harry Chandler and published by ASM International. This book was released on 1996-01-01 with total page 690 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The material is contained in more than 500 datasheet articles, each devoted exclusively to one particular alloy, a proven format first used in the complementary guide for irons and steels. For even more convenience, the datasheets are arranged by alloy groups: nickel, aluminum, copper, magnesium, titanium, zinc and superalloys. The book provides very worthwhile and practical information in such areas as: compositions, trade names, common names, specifications (both U.S. and foreign), available products forms, typical applications, and properties (mechanical, fabricating, and selected others). This comprehensive resource also covers the more uncommon alloys by groups in the same datasheet format. Included are: refractory metals and alloys (molybdenum, tungsten, niobium, tantalum), beryllium copper alloys, cast and P/M titanium parts, P/M aluminum parts, lead and lead alloys, tin-rich alloys, and sintering copper-base materials (copper-tin, bronze, brass, nickel silvers).

Book The Role of Microstructure on High Cycle Fatigue Lifetime Variability in Ti 6Al 4V

Download or read book The Role of Microstructure on High Cycle Fatigue Lifetime Variability in Ti 6Al 4V written by Alison Polasik and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Defect analyses of failed specimens indicated that damage accumulation is often localized during cyclic loading, with dislocation densities varying from one a lath to another. For all specimens, a-type dislocations are seen and c+a - type dislocations were observed only in regions of localized plastic strain. Investigation of site-specific TEM foils extracted from the crack nucleation region of [alpha]/[beta] -processed specimens provided information about the nature and behavior of dislocations during the crack nucleation event. A comparison of short- and long- life specimens provides information about differences in the evolution of the dislocation structure prior to crack nucleation. The potential of this combinatorial approach for future fatigue lifetime investigations is discussed. In particular, the project demonstrates that such an approach could be useful in developing a quantitative understanding of the role variations in microstructural features have on variations in HCF lifetime.

The appropriate specifications for each alloy are included. This international effort has provided a broad information base that has been compiled and reviewed by leading experts within the titanium industry, from several countries, encompassing numerous technology areas. Inputs have been obtained from the titanium industry, fabricators, users, government and academia. This up-to-date package covers information from almost the inception of the titanium industry, in the 1950s, to mid-1992. The information, organized by alloy, makes this exhaustive collection an easy-to-use data base at your fingertips, which generally includes all the product forms for each alloy. The 60-plus data sheets supply not only extensive graphical and tabular information on properties, but the datasheets also describe or illustrate important factors which would aid in the selection of the proper alloy or heat treatment. The datasheets are further supplemented with back-ground information on the metallurgy and fabrication characteristics of titanium alloys. An especially extensive coverage of properties, processing and metallurgy is provided in the datasheet for the workhorse of the titanium industry, Ti-6Al-4V. This compendium includes the newest alloys made public. even those still under development. In many cases, key references are included for further information on a given subject. Comprehensive datasheets provide extensive information on: Applications, Specifications, Corrosion, Mechanical Design Properties, Fatigue and Fracture

Book The High Cycle Fatigue Behavior of Ti 6Al 4V Alloy

Download or read book The High Cycle Fatigue Behavior of Ti 6Al 4V Alloy written by R. K. Steel and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The cyclic stress-strain behavior and the S/N behavior of a 'pseudo-elastic' alloy, Ti-6Al-4V of coarsened microstructure, and of a 'plastic' material, copper, are compared. In accord with views recently put forth by Freudenthal, important differences are noted between these two types of materials. These differences include the mode of crack initiation, the intensity of the Bauschinger effect, and the level below macroscopic yeild at which long-life fatigue data lie. (Author).

Book Influence of Heat Treatment on the Fatigue Lives of Ti 6Al 4V and Ti 4 5Al 5Mo 1 5Cr

Download or read book Influence of Heat Treatment on the Fatigue Lives of Ti 6Al 4V and Ti 4 5Al 5Mo 1 5Cr written by AC. Fraker and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper reports on the effects of heat treating on phase composition and fatigue behavior of the Ti-6Al-4V and the Ti-4.5Al-5Mo-1.5Cr alloys. Corrosion-fatigue experiments show that the Ti-6Al-4V alloy has the longest fatigue life when heat treated at 900°C and quenched. The Ti-4.5Al-5Mo-1.5Cr alloy has an increased fatigue life under higher strain when heat treated at higher temperatures in the ?-? region. Comparison of the fatigue lives of the Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-4.5Al-5Mo-1.5Cr alloys in the mill-annealed condition shows that Ti-4.5Al-5Mo-1.5Cr has improved fatigue behavior in the high-cycle region, but Ti-6Al-4V is superior in the low-cycle region.
