Book Effects of Temperature on Vapor Liquid Equilibrium of MTBE methanol Mixtures

Download or read book Effects of Temperature on Vapor Liquid Equilibrium of MTBE methanol Mixtures written by Mohamad Azamudin Ishak and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In separation process of binary mixture the vapor liquid equilibrium diagram is integral to design the separation apparatus. This research objective is to construct the vapor liquid equilibrium diagram for MTBE-Methanol binary mixture system at various temperatures and at constant pressure. Other objective is also to find the Azeotropic point which the MTBE-Methanol binary mixture formed at certain point that posed problems in separation processes. The separation process encountered problems during the Azeotropic point which vapor and liquid fraction is equal. The equipment used is Vapor Liquid Equilibrium Unit Equipment in the Unit Operation Laboratory. Initially the steps taken are to find the calibration curve for MTBEMethanol mixture. The experiment started with MTBE volume set at constant and gradually increase the Methanol volume. The mixture in the equipment will be heated at four different temperatures which will give enough data to construct the diagram. Record the RI index and the temperature. The experiment was conducted at four different temperatures. The result, MTBE fraction of x vapor fraction and y liquid fraction formed Azeotropic point at 0.6~0.7 x =y.

Book Determination of Vapor Liquid Equilibrium Data for the Methanol Water System

Download or read book Determination of Vapor Liquid Equilibrium Data for the Methanol Water System written by Geraldine Anne Clifford and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methanol and water, at ordinary temperatures form a two-phase, two-component system, which according to the phase rule, can be completely described by two independent variables. For solutions of varying concentrations, either the boiling points at constant pressure, or the equilibrium-vapor pressures at constant temperature are useful for the study of the system. However, because the relationship of partial and total vapor pressure to composition at constant temperature can be checked theoretically by means of the equations discussed below, this is the criteria most often used for the study.

Book Vapor liquid Equilibria in the Systems Methyl Oleate Methanol Methyl Oleate Water

Download or read book Vapor liquid Equilibria in the Systems Methyl Oleate Methanol Methyl Oleate Water written by Yong Ming Lee and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biodiesel is now considered the next generation of replacement for petroleum and they can be easily produced from esterification of fatty acid with alcohol and this process usually requires distillation to purify the biodiesel product. For column designs and process simulation, thermodynamic properties such as vapor-liquid equilibrium data of the related components are valuable. In this present study, vapor-liquid equilibrium data for the binary systems of methyl oleate + methanol and methyl oleate + water will be measured at isobaric condition (80kPa and atmospheric pressure). The mixtures were introduced into the equilibrium cell, heated to the desired temperature and at the same time maintaining the pressure. When the system had reached equilibrium, the samples were taken and underwent evaporation using rotary evaporator to remove the more volatile component. The results taken were then correlated with UNIQUAC and NRTL-RK thermodynamic activity coefficient models and it was found out that UNIQUAC is better fitted for methyl oleate + methanol system with absolute average relative deviation (AARD) of 0.0126-0.0409 compared to the NRTL-RK with AARD of 0.396-0.4176 while NRTL-RK is better fitted for methyl oleate + water system with AARD of 0.0004039-0.0463 compared to the UNIQUAC with AARD of 0.1703-0.1948. It was also found out that the pressure will affect separation speed. With the optimum separating condition of low pressure at high temperature, it can help the industry to design a more cost effective separation column.

Book Liquid vapor Equilibria in the System Methanol ethylene Glycol water

Download or read book Liquid vapor Equilibria in the System Methanol ethylene Glycol water written by John Wilson Sjoberg and published by . This book was released on 1948 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The freezing points of the system methanol-glycol-water were investigated by Conrad, Hill and Ballman to determine the suitability of such mixtures for use as an antifreeze. The low freezing points obtained seem to warrant further investigation of other properties of the system. Especially important would be the vapor-liquid equilibrium relations of the system, since one of the desirable features of such a mixture would be low vapor pressures. It is well known that when one substance is dissolved in another, each lowers the vapor pressure of the other. It was for the purpose of determining these relations that the present investigation was undertaken"--Introduction, leaf 1.
