Book Oxygen Uptake Kinetics in Sport Exercise and Medicine

Download or read book Oxygen Uptake Kinetics in Sport Exercise and Medicine written by Andrew M. Jones and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-07-04 with total page 547 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite its crucial importance, scientists interested in the limitations of human physical performance have only just started to give the field of oxygen uptake kinetics the attention it deserves. Understanding the principal determinant of the oxygen uptake kinetics is fundamental to improving human performance or the quality of life. This book provides a detailed overview of the current state of knowledge of this emerging field of study, and features: * an introduction to oxygen uptake kinetics and historical development of the discipline * measurement and analysis of oxygen uptake kinetics * control of and limitations to oxygen uptake kinetics * applications of oxygen uptake kinetics in a range of human populations. Oxygen Uptake Kinetics in Sport, Health and Medicine is richly illustrated and structured to enable easy access of information and represents an invaluable resource for students and researchers in exercise physiology, as well as for respiratory physiologists and pulmonary clinicians.

Book The Effect of Moderate Vs Heavy intensity Priming Exercise on Oxygen Uptake Kinetics During Constant Work Rate Cycling

Download or read book The Effect of Moderate Vs Heavy intensity Priming Exercise on Oxygen Uptake Kinetics During Constant Work Rate Cycling written by Anna M. Kinzel and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Background: Warming-up prior to exercise, sometimes referred to as priming exercise, is a common practice for most athletes. Heavy-intensity priming exercise (HIPE) has been shown to improve pulmonary oxygen uptake kinetics during a subsequent bout of heavy work compared to moderate-intensity priming exercise (MIPE). Less is understood about the effect of priming on regional muscle oxygen response (rMO2). Purpose: To determine if there is a significant difference between MIPE and HIPE on VO2 and rMO2 during constant work rate cycling (CWR)

Book Exercise Respiratory and Environmental Physiology

Download or read book Exercise Respiratory and Environmental Physiology written by Guido Ferretti and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-20 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book sheds new light on the history of exercise physiology and how it essentially grew, thanks to the work of a few major Schools. Analysing and interpreting the evolution of the field, the authors focus on the School of Milano, which was founded by Rodolfo Margaria and is one of the most prominent representatives, having played a central role in promoting and advancing this field of physiology. In turn, the authors trace Margaria’s biography; under his influence, the school introduced new concepts with regard to both the energetics of muscular exercise and to human locomotion. These concepts were further developed by Margaria’s pupils and by subsequent generations. Indeed, the course that was set in Milano greatly influenced the entire history of modern physiology. Readers with a keen interest in the origins of modern concepts and technologies in exercise physiology will find this book a fascinating and informative read.

Book Effect of Epinephrine on Slow Component of Oxygen Consumption During Heavy Exercise

Download or read book Effect of Epinephrine on Slow Component of Oxygen Consumption During Heavy Exercise written by Romina Villamonte and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prior heavy exercise bout on cycle ergometer changes the VO2 kinetics of a subsequent heavy exercise bout. These changes are an increase in VO2 fundamental component (Ap) and a reduction in VO2 slow component (VO2sc) without changing primary component time constant. Infusion of epinephrine has shown to increase resting VO2 levels in humans at rest and during exercise. To test the effect of epinephrine on VO2 kinetics, epinephrine was injected at the beginning of exercise and the kinetics of oxygen consumption was compared with the oxygen kinetics of a prior and second exercise bouts. Seven healthy physically active male participants volunteered for the study. Participants performed 8 min bout of heavy exercise on an electrically braked cycle ergometer preceded by 1) 8 min heavy exercise bout with a 6 min rest period in between and 2) 0.10 mg epinephrine intra muscular injection on deltoid immediately followed by 5 minutes rest to reach it's onset of action. Same protocol was performed in two different days. Bloods samples to measure plasma [Epi] and [NE] were taken ten times in total during each testing day. Fundamental amplitude (Ap) of epinephrine bout was significantly higher than the prior cycling bout (p
