Book Effects of Mulch on the Growth Yield and Weed Development of Eggplants Solanum melongena L

Download or read book Effects of Mulch on the Growth Yield and Weed Development of Eggplants Solanum melongena L written by Alvene Hansol and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2020-03-31 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific Study from the year 2018 in the subject Agrarian Studies, grade: 10, , language: English, abstract: The study aspires to compare two different plots with and without plastic mulch for growing eggplants. The study was conducted in order to find the answer on how to lessen weed development increasing the yield of crops and to identify the different species of weed and its population on eggplant. Specifically, the success of the research was based on the harvested fruit of the eggplant and the data gathered. The result from the gathered data shows that black plastic mulch obtained longer fruit length of 56.4 cm compared to the plot without black plastic mulch which has 22.5 cm. For weed height, plots with black plastic mulch obtained shorter length of 15.1 cm compared to the plot without plastic mulch which has 28.3 cm. For weed species, researchers identified 11 kind of species of weeds that grown in plot with black plastic mulch and plot without mulch and identify them. In terms of weed density, plots with black plastic mulch had lesser weed density compared to the plot without black plastic mulch. For the total yield, the plot with black plastic mulch have the highest total yield compared to plot without black plastic mulch. Marketable and non-marketable fruit was also obtained, plot with black plastic mulch have the highest marketable yield of 0.87 kg compared to control which only has 0.64 kg. Based on the findings of the study, with the help of black plastic mulch, water, good management practice and vermicompost as fertilizer, the plot with black plastic mulch was effective in controlling the growth of weeds and increasing the yield of eggplant.

Book Fluid Mulch Sprayed on the Field and Overlaid with Pigmented Latex

Download or read book Fluid Mulch Sprayed on the Field and Overlaid with Pigmented Latex written by Ali Mahmoudpour and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2009-09 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To study the effect of reflecting mulches on growth pattern and yield components of eggplant (Solanum melongena L., cv. 'Millionaire'), beds were treated with synthetic latex film as a mulch base. Colored pigments derived from oil-based paints in black, white, red, blue, yellow and silver were sprayed on the mulch base to provide differential coloration. Each experimental unit included three rows of 7.3 meters with eight plants per row. Each treatment was replicated in four blocks at two separate locations. Plants grown on silver-pigmented beds produced significantly greater fruit numbers and total fruit weight than other treatments. After eight harvests, up to 236% yield increase was observed in silver plots compared to the control. Initial flower and fruit set formations before harvest were significantly higher in silver plots compared to other treatments. Non-significant differences were observed with measurements of plant height and total dry weight of shoot and root within the treatments. It is assumed that altering microenvironment around the plants by mulch surface color is responsible for this variation.

This book was released on 2017-03-16 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of plastics in agriculture – to increase crop output, improve food quality and improve sustainability – has grown substantially in both quantity and the range of applications. Many of the early researchers that conducted field research in the use of plastics in agriculture have either retired or are deceased. These early pioneers in plasticulture research, the basis of plant production using plastics, were very creative and persistent in discovering uses of plastics in agricultural applications. A Guide to the Manufacture, Performance, and Potential of Plastics in Agriculture contains both references not only to their accomplishments but also their publications. The book discusses plasticulture-the basis of plant production using plastics – including topics such as plastic mulch, row covers, drip irrigation, and high/low tunnels. It covers the process of producing polyethylene and polypropylene plastics that are used in plant and animal production agriculture, and the many uses of plastics in all aspects of agriculture, including plastic greenhouses, rigid mold plastics, disposal of plastics, and plastics in animal production. This book introduces a range of academics and industrial practitioners to the impact of plastics in agriculture, both historically and in a range of current applications. It also provides new perspectives on future developments to enable further research and application. It is an invaluable reference on the use of polyethylene, polypropylene films, and such products in all aspects of agricultural production. - Discusses plasticulture, the basis of plant production using plastics, including topics such as plastic mulch, row covers, drip irrigation, and high/low tunnels - Contains 10 chapters that cover the process of producing polyethylene and polypropylene plastics that are used in agriculture - Covers the many uses of plastics in all aspects of agriculture, including plastic greenhouses, rigid mold plastics, disposal of plastics, and plastics in animal production

Book Advances in Plant Transgenics Methods and Applications

Download or read book Advances in Plant Transgenics Methods and Applications written by Ramalingam Sathishkumar and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-15 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The green revolution led to the development of improved varieties of crops, especially cereals, and since then, classical or molecular breeding has resulted in the creation of economically valuable species. Thanks to recent developments in genetic engineering, it has become possible to introduce genes from different sources, such as bacteria, fungi, viruses, mice and humans, to plants. This technology has made the scientific community aware of the critical role of transgenics, not only as a means of producing stress tolerant crops but also as a platform for the production of therapeutics through molecular farming. This book discusses the commercial applications of plant transgenic technologies, including the use of transgenic cell culture approachesto improve the production of metabolites and high-value therapeutics as well as transgenic plants in pest management. It also explores generation of novel vectors, protein production using chloroplast engineering and the latest developments in this area, such as genome editing in plants. Featuring general discussions and research papers by leading international experts, it is a valuable resource for scientists, teachers, students and industrialists working in the field.
