Book Rocket Plume Effects on Boattail and Flare Bodies of Revolution at Transonic Speeds

Download or read book Rocket Plume Effects on Boattail and Flare Bodies of Revolution at Transonic Speeds written by Donald V. Rubin and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report presents an analysis of the pressure data from a wind tunnel test conducted to gain information about rocket plume effects on missile base pressure and local pressure along flared and boattailed bodies of revolution at transonic speeds. The jet plume was simulated by a cold air jet over a pressure range from 0 to approximately 600 psia. (Author).

Book Effects of Various Afterbodies on the Aerodynamic Characteristics of a General Missile Configuration

Download or read book Effects of Various Afterbodies on the Aerodynamic Characteristics of a General Missile Configuration written by M. L. Homan and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A test was conducted in the Aerodynamic Wind Tunnel, Transonic (IT), to determine the effects of various afterbodies on the aerodynamic characteristics of a generalized missile. Two similar models were tested with various afterbodies consisting of flared, cylindrical, finned cylindrical, and finned flared afterbodies. A primary model was used to evaluate the static longitudinal stability of the complete model, and a similar model with a metric afterbody was used to evaluate the contribution of the afterbody to the static longitudinal stability of the model. Tests were conducted at free-stream Mach numbers from 0.7 to 1.5 for an angle-of-attack range from -4 to 6 deg. (Author).

Book Basics of Aerothermodynamics

Download or read book Basics of Aerothermodynamics written by Ernst Heinrich Hirschel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-01-16 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last two decades have brought two important developments for aeroth- modynamics. One is that airbreathing hypersonic flight became the topic of technology programmes and extended system studies. The other is the emergence and maturing of the discrete numerical methods of aerodyn- ics/aerothermodynamics complementary to the ground-simulation facilities, with the parallel enormous growth of computer power. Airbreathing hypersonic flight vehicles are, in contrast to aeroassisted re-entry vehicles, drag sensitive. They have, further, highly integrated lift and propulsion systems. This means that viscous eflFects, like boundary-layer development, laminar-turbulent transition, to a certain degree also strong interaction phenomena, are much more important for such vehicles than for re-entry vehicles. This holds also for the thermal state of the surface and thermal surface effects, concerning viscous and thermo-chemical phenomena (more important for re-entry vehicles) at and near the wall. The discrete numerical methods of aerodynamics/aerothermodynamics permit now - what was twenty years ago not imaginable - the simulation of high speed flows past real flight vehicle configurations with thermo-chemical and viscous effects, the description of the latter being still handicapped by in sufficient flow-physics models. The benefits of numerical simulation for flight vehicle design are enormous: much improved aerodynamic shape definition and optimization, provision of accurate and reliable aerodynamic data, and highly accurate determination of thermal and mechanical loads. Truly mul- disciplinary design and optimization methods regarding the layout of thermal protection systems, all kinds of aero-servoelasticity problems of the airframe, et cetera, begin now to emerge.

  • Pages : 450 pages

Download or read book Missile Aerodynamics written by Jack Norman Nielsen and published by AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics). This book was released on 1988-01-01 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The similarities between the airplane and the missile extend beyond their flying capabilities, and at higher operational speeds, the configuration distinctions become even less apparent. " Missile Aerodynamics," a classic now available from AIAA and Nielsen Engineering and Research, Inc., combines the best of missile and airplane aerodynamics, drawing extensively from numerous technical papers to present a rational and unified account of the principles behind missile projection. Evaluate the missile versus the airplane in a multitude of areas, from longitudinal acceleration, wing loading, roll and dynamic stability, guidance and navigation, and more. J.N. Nielsen covers every aspect of missile aerodynamics, from the classification of missiles and basic formulas to innovative aerodynamic controls. In one reliable reference, readers will find hundreds of schematics, equations, and tables with practical applications in missile design and engineering. Book Hydrogen Aircraft Technology

Download or read book Hydrogen Aircraft Technology written by G.Daniel Brewer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Liquid hydrogen is shown to be the ideal fuel for civil transport aircraft, as well as for many types of military aircraft. Hydrogen Aircraft Technology discusses the potential of hydrogen for subsonic, supersonic, and hypersonic applications. Designs with sample configurations of aircraft for all three speed categories are presented, in addition to performance comparisons to equivalent designs for aircraft using conventional kerosine-type fuel and configurations for aircraft using liquid methane fuel. Other topics discussed include conceptual designs of the principal elements of fuel containment systems required for cryogenic fuels, operational elements (e.g., pumps, valves, pressure regulators, heat exchangers, lines and fittings), modifications for turbine engines to maximize the benefit of hydrogen, safety aspects compared to kerosine and methane fueled designs, equipment and facility designs for servicing hydrogen-fueled aircraft, production methods for liquid hydrogen, and the environmental advantages for using liquid hydrogen. The book also presents a plan for conducting the necessary development of technology and introducing hydrogen fuel into the worldwide civil air transport industry. Hydrogen Aircraft Technology will provide fascinating reading for anyone interested in aircraft and hydrogen fuel designs.
