Book Effectors in Plant Microbe Interactions

Download or read book Effectors in Plant Microbe Interactions written by Francis Martin and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-01-03 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plants and microbes interact in a complex relationship that can have both harmful and beneficial impacts on both plant and microbial communities. Effectors, secreted microbial molecules that alter plant processes and facilitate colonization, are central to understanding the complicated interplay between plants and microbes. Effectors in Plant-Microbe Interactions unlocks the molecular basis of this important class of microbial molecules and describes their diverse and complex interactions with host plants. Effectors in Plant Microbe Interactions is divided into five sections that take stock of the current knowledge on effectors of plant-associated organisms. Coverage ranges from the impact of bacterial, fungal and oomycete effectors on plant immunity and high-throughput genomic analysis of effectors to the function and trafficking of these microbial molecules. The final section looks at effectors secreted by other eukaryotic microbes that are the focus of current and future research efforts. Written by leading international experts in plant-microbe interactions, Effectors in Plant Microbe Interactions, will be an essential volume for plant biologists, microbiologists, pathologists, and geneticists.

Download or read book Plant Microbe Interactions written by B.B. Biswas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1998-04-30 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent years have seen tremendous progress in unraveling the molecular basis of different plant-microbe interactions. Knowledge has accumulated on the mecha nisms of the microbial infection of plants, which can lead to either disease or resistance. The mechanisms developed by plants to interact with microbes, whether viruses, bacteria, or fungi, involve events that can lead to symbiotic association or to disease or tumor formation. Cell death caused by pathogen infection has been of great interest for many years because of its association with plant resistance. There appear to be two types of plant cell death associated with pathogen infection, a rapid hypersensitive cell death localized at the site of infection during an incompatible interaction between a resistant plant and an avirulent pathogen, and a slow, normosensitive plant cell death that spreads beyond the site of infection during some compatible interactions involving a susceptible plant and a virulent, necrogenic pathogen. Plants possess a number of defense mechanisms against infection, such as (i) production of phytoalexin, (ii) formation of hydrolases, (iii) accumulation of hydroxyproline-rich glycoprotein and lignin deposition, (iv) production of pathogen-related proteins, (v) produc tion of oligosaccharides, jasmonic acid, and various other phenolic substances, and (vi) production of toxin-metabolizing enzymes. Based on these observations, insertion of a single suitable gene in a particular plant has yielded promising results in imparting resistance against specific infection or disease. It appears that a signal received after microbe infection triggers different signal transduction pathways.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Nato Advanced Research Workshop on Plant Hormone Receptors was held at the Physik Zentrum in Bad Honnef near Bonn, August 18-22, 1986. This workshop was mainly supported by the Nato Scientific Affairs Division and additionally cosponsered by Hoechst AG, Frankfurt and BASF AG, Ludwigshafen. The workshop aimed at focusing research on plant hormone recep tors. It should provide an opportunity to all who work in this field to report on their very recent data and to discuss their results with the most competent' colleagues. The total number of participants was limited to 30 to ensure personal contact and intensive discussions. Everyone had to either give a lecture or practical course. One half of the participants were invited, the other was selected by applications. Plant hormone receptors are assumed to exist but clear results are still rare. Nevertheless encouraging results have been published over the last years. Receptors for animal hormones and neuronal transmitters are well characterized, both structu rally and functionally. Therefore scientists dealing with recep tors for steroid hormones - Prof. E.E. Baulieu, Paris and Prof. J. R. Gustafsson, Huddinge - and for acetylcholine - Prof. A. Maelicke, Dortmund - were invited to participate in the workshop.

Book Plant pathogen Interactions

Download or read book Plant pathogen Interactions written by Nicholas J. Talbot and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant diseases are destructive and threaten virtually any crop grown on a commercial scale. They are kept in check by plant breeding strategies that have introgressed disease resistance genes into many important crops, and by the deployment of costly control measures, such as antibiotics and fungicides. However, the capacity for the agents of plant disease - viruses, bacteria, fungi, and oomycetes - to adapt to new conditions, overcoming disease resistance and becoming resistant to pesticides, is very great. For these reasons, understanding the biology of plant diseases is essential for the development of durable control strategies. Plant-Pathogen Interactions provides and overview of our current knowledge of plant-pathogen interactions and the establishment of plant disease, drawing together fundamental new information on plant infection mechanisms and host responses. The role of molecular signals, gene regulation, and the physiology of pathogenic organisms are emphasized, but the role of the prevailing environment in the conditioning of disease is also discussed. Emphasizing the broader understanding that has emerged from the use of molecular genetics and genomics, Plant-Pathogen Interactions highlights those interactions that have been most widely studied and those in which genome information has provided a new level of understanding.

Book The Hypersensitive Reaction in Plants to Pathogens

Download or read book The Hypersensitive Reaction in Plants to Pathogens written by Robert N. Goodman and published by American Phytopathological Society. This book was released on 1994 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nikolai Gogol’s short story is a sublime work of tragi-comedy. In it, he brilliantly ridicules the Ukrainian passion for litigation and reveals life as something really rather absurd. Ivan Ivanovich and Ivan Nikiforovich are the greatest of friends—until the day they begin a foolish quarrel that culminates in that very worst of insults: “And you, Ivan Ivanovich, are a goose.” From that moment on, not another word is spoken between them as they choose instead to fight out their differences in the courts. But it seems theirs is a lawsuit that is set to run for years and years.
