Book A Review of Swedish Bearing Steel Manufacturing and Quality Assurance of Steel Products

Download or read book A Review of Swedish Bearing Steel Manufacturing and Quality Assurance of Steel Products written by Patrik L. J. Ölund and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Swedish bearing steel industry dates back a century. Already in the early days, Swedish bearing steels were characterized by an exceptionally high quality due to the availability of pure iron ores that made it possible to produce bearing steels by the acid open-hearth processes. Development of the ladle furnace process using inductive stirring made it possible to use the much more flexible and cost effective electric arc melting process. The strive to produce ever better steel products has been strong, driven by increasing demands on final product performance. Developments in steel processing technology, process know-how, and understanding of the complex relationships governing steel cleanliness are worth noting. Methods used have undergone vast improvements in recent times and the development continues. The same situation is valid for the quality assurance methods employed in the manufacturing of steel products.

Book Metal Fatigue Effects of Small Defects and Nonmetallic Inclusions

Download or read book Metal Fatigue Effects of Small Defects and Nonmetallic Inclusions written by Yukitaka Murakami and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-04-29 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metal fatigue is an essential consideration for engineers and researchers who are looking at factors that cause metals to fail through stress, corrosion, etc. This is an English translation of a book originally published in Japan in 1993, with an additional two chapters on the fatigue failure of steels and the effect of surface roughness on fatigue strength. The methodology is based on important and reliable results and may be usefully applied to other fatigue problems not directly treated in this book.

Download or read book Advances in the Production and Use of Steel with Improved Internal Cleanliness written by John K. Mahaney and published by ASTM International. This book was released on 1999 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proceedings of the May 1998 symposium on steel, stainless steel, and related alloys. Emphasizing the effect on the products rather than manufacturing methods, seven papers show that the level of inclusion identification and control through processing improvements is greatly dependent upon the sector

Book Steels Metallurgy and Applications

Download or read book Steels Metallurgy and Applications written by David Llewellyn and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1998-02-24 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: STEELS: Metallurgy and Applications provides a metallurgical understanding of commercial steel grades and the design, manufacturing and service requirements that govern their application. The properties of different steels are described, detailing the effect of composition, processing and heat treatment. Where appropriate an introduction is given to standard specifications and design codes provided on component manufacture and property requirements for successful service performance. The book deals with steel products in some depth, in four chapters covering wide strip, structural steels, engineering and stainless steel grades. At the begining of each chapter an overview is given which details important features of the grades and a historical perspective of their development. Also featured are up to date information on steel prices and specifications.David Llewellyn has over thirty years experience in the steel industry and is currently lecturing in the Materials Engineering Department at University College Swansea.'..the book unfolds into an easily readable and a valuable source of highly relevant and contemporary information on steels' - METALS AND MATERIALS'.. a high quality product from all points of view' - INSTITUTE OF METALS AND MATERIALS AUSTRALASIA features up to date information on steel prices and specifications.

Book New Developments in the Production and Testing of Bearing Steels

Download or read book New Developments in the Production and Testing of Bearing Steels written by PG. Dressel and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The production routes for bearing steels, available in the works of Krupp Stahl AG, and developments to improve product quality and to lower production costs are described. The requirements for chemical composition, nonmetallic inclusions, and microstructure are discussed in respect to machinability and rolling contact fatigue life of bearings. Melting and refining of the bearing steel AISI 52100 (DIN 100 Cr 6) and its processing to billets, bars, and wire-rods are illustrated under the aspect of process technology developments and economical factors. The introduction of the continuous casting process and improvements in manufacturing technology will render the production of bearing steels less expensive at a high quality level. This, however, requires further research and development which should be assisted by appropriate requirements for bearing steel products.

Book The Effects of Ladle Refining With and Without Vacuum on Bearing Steel Quality

Download or read book The Effects of Ladle Refining With and Without Vacuum on Bearing Steel Quality written by DA. Whittaker and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three manufacturing procedures have been developed to produce bearing steels of varied cost and quality requirements: argon ladle refining, providing the lowest cost route for general bearing applications in C-Mn steels; argon ladle refining under full vacuum, for more specialized bearing applications in C-Mn and Ni-Cr-Mo alloy steels; and argon ladle refining under full vacuum plus vacuum arc remelting, for the highest cost and most critical bearing applications. Product qualities are discussed in terms of mechanical properties (hardenabilities, ideal diameters), chemistry control (C, Mn, S, O, Ti) and steel cleanliness (ASTM E 45, SAM, and AMS stepdown) ratings.
