Book Effect of Heat on Concrete

Download or read book Effect of Heat on Concrete written by Gabriel Khoury and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2011-06-01 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Effect of Heat on Concrete presents an authoritative review of the properties and behaviour of concrete at high temperatures, from ambient up to melting. The author provides a thorough assessment of the materials aspects of concrete behaviour under four main themes: * Microstructure * Properties * Moisture migration * Applications. This book condenses a mass of data and published information in order to be readily accessible for researchers and for engineers responsible for the design and construction of concrete structures where the temperature regime may lead to significant differences in performance from that at ambient temperatures.

Book Concrete at High Temperatures

Download or read book Concrete at High Temperatures written by Zdeněk P. Bažant and published by Prentice Hall. This book was released on 1996 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the increased use of concrete in high temperature environments, it is essential for engineers to have a knowledge of the properties and mathematical modelling of concrete in such extreme conditions. Bringing together, for the first time, vast amounts of data previously scattered throughout numerous papers and periodicals, this book provides, in two parts, a comprehensive and systematic review of both the properties and the mathematical modelling of concrete at high temperatures. Part I provides a comprehensive description of the material properties of concrete at high temperatures. Assuming only a basic knowledge of mathematics, the information is presented at an elementary level suitable for graduates of civil engineering or materials science. Part II describes the response of concrete to high temperatures in precise terms based on mathematical modelling of physical processes. Suitable for advanced graduate students, researchers and specialists, it presents detailed mathematical models of phenomena such as heat transfer, moisture diffusion, creep, volume changes, cracking and fracture. Concrete at High Temperatures will prove a valuable reference source to university researchers and graduate students in civil engineering and materials science, engineers in research laboratories, and practising engineers concerned with fire resistance, concrete structures for nuclear reactors and chemical technology vessels.

Book The Effect of Temperature on Creep of Concrete

Download or read book The Effect of Temperature on Creep of Concrete written by H. G. Geymayer and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A review of the literature on the effect of elevated temperatures on the time-dependent volume change due to load (creep) of concrete reveals incomplete and conflicting evidence. Some workers have found a 'creep maximum' at a particular temperature range; others have not encountered this phenomenon. Among those who have found it, there is lack of agreement as to what the range is. All available data have been collected, reduced to comparable form, and analyzed. The analysis has been reviewed in the light of the several theories of the mechanism of concrete creep. It is concluded that the new results on temperature effects on creep do not resolve the conflicts among the various creep theories, but they tend to support the seepage theory more than any other. Many factors affecting creep are found to be influential at elevated temperatures in analogous fashion to their influence at room temperature. These factors include time under load, applied stress, maturity of concrete, and moisture content of concrete. The effect of temperature, at least up to 50 C, is to increase creep by a factor of two or three at 50 C. (Author).

Book Influence of Temperature Upon the Strength of Concrete Classic Reprint

Download or read book Influence of Temperature Upon the Strength of Concrete Classic Reprint written by J. Albert Anderson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-11 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Influence of Temperature Upon the Strength of Concrete A large number of concrete structures are built during the late fall and early spring when the temperatures are low and usually varied. Very little information exists regarding the effect of var iations of temperature upon the setting action of concrete. Such information would be of the greatest value to contractors, for with it the time can be determined when the concrete will have gained sufficient strength to warrant the removal of the forms. Many of the Concrete failures of the past have been attributed to the exist ing temperature conditions and the lack of knowledge due to them.
