Book Effect of Refrigerant Spray on Orthodontic Composite Resin bracket Debond Strength and Associated Adhesive Remnant Index

Download or read book Effect of Refrigerant Spray on Orthodontic Composite Resin bracket Debond Strength and Associated Adhesive Remnant Index written by Lauren Ashley Gossett and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study evaluated effects of refrigerant spray and crosshead speed on orthodontic composite resin shear debond strength and Adhesive Remnant Index (ARI) after bond failure. Orthodontic brackets were bonded to forty paired extracted mandibular third molars. Pairs were divided into experimental and control groups, with and without refrigerant spray prior to debond, respectively. Each group was further divided into two subgroups based on crosshead speed of 1 or 10 mm/min. Bracket shear debond strength was tested with a universal testing machine and ARI scores assessed. Results showed no statistically significant difference for shear debond strength or ARI score as a function of refrigerant spray usage. Statistically significant differences were shown for shear debond strength and ARI score as a function of crosshead speed. As crosshead speed increased, shear debond strength and ARI score both increased. These results indicate that application of refrigerant spray prior to bracket debonding is not beneficial.

Book Orthodontic Bracket Bond Strength and Resin Composite Adhesive Degree of Conversion Associated with Type of Curing Unit and Total Energy

Download or read book Orthodontic Bracket Bond Strength and Resin Composite Adhesive Degree of Conversion Associated with Type of Curing Unit and Total Energy written by Natalia Henbest and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examined the effect of light curing sources on shear bond strength and degree of conversion of orthodontic resin composite adhesive as function of type of curing unit and total energy, as well as evaluated the correlation between shear bond strength and degree of conversion. Curing units included in the study were plasma arc (PA), light emitting diode (LED) and quartz tungsten halogen (QTH) with 5k, 10k, or 15k mJ/cm2 of total energy delivered to the orthodontic adhesive by each unit type. Based on an analysis of variance (a =.05), there was no significant effect of type of curing source on shear bond strength; however, there was a significant effect of total energy, with shear bond strength increasing as energy increased across curing units. For degree of conversion there was a significant effect of curing unit with PA producing higher degree of conversion than LED or QTH, which were not significantly different from each other. There was also a significant effect of total energy on degree of conversion with a significant increase between 5k to 10k mJ/cm2. There was a positive moderate overall correlation between shear bond strength and degree of conversion. Results of this study suggest that the PA curing unit is more efficient at polymerization (degree of conversion) of orthodontic resin composite adhesive. However, there is no difference in shear bond strength produced when using PA, LED or QTH curing sources for orthodontic bracket bonding procedures when equal total energy is delivered to the adhesive.

Book Effect of Highly Filled Light cured Resin Sealant on Bracket Shear Bond Strength in Demineralization Conditions

Download or read book Effect of Highly Filled Light cured Resin Sealant on Bracket Shear Bond Strength in Demineralization Conditions written by Brad Michael Chun and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examined the effect of a highly filled light-cured sealant (HFLCS) on bracket shear bond strength and subsequent adhesive remnant index (ARI) following exposure to cariogenic challenge. Specimens were divided into two groups to receive conventional primer or HFLCS prior to orthodontic bracket bonding in a simulated oral environment. After curing bracket adhesive, specimens were separated into two storage solutions, either phosphate buffered saline or a demineralization solution (pH 4.1) for 96 hours. Brackets then underwent shear bond strength testing followed by ARI scoring. Enamel surfaces were visually examined for white spot lesion (WSL) severity using a WSL scoring index. HFLCS and exposure to demineralization conditions were not significant factors in shear bond strength or subsequent adhesive fracture pattern (ANOVA, p>.05). The majority of brackets were given an ARI score of 1, meaning that greater than 50% of the resin adhesive remained on the bracket. A significant difference (p

Book The Effect of Surface Treatments and Bonding Agents on the Shear Bond Strengths of Orthodontic Brackets Bonded to Aged Composite Resin Restorations

Download or read book The Effect of Surface Treatments and Bonding Agents on the Shear Bond Strengths of Orthodontic Brackets Bonded to Aged Composite Resin Restorations written by Matthew Yun Sun Tse and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Objective: To compare the mean bond strengths and mode of bond failure, in vitro, of five bonding systems (MIP 1, Plastic Conditioner 2, Assure 2, Scotchbond 3, and Transbond XT 1), when bonding an orthodontic bracket to an artificially-aged composite resin restoration, with and without mechanical surface preparation with a diamond bur. Methods: Class V buccal composite resin restorations were prepared in 240 upper right central incisor dentoform teeth. The restorations were artificially age d for 35 days, bonded with metal brackets, stored in distilled water at 37°C for 30 days, thermocycled for 500 cycles, and subsequently debonded with an Instron universal testing machine. Results: The mean bond strengths for Transbond, MIP, Plastic Conditioner, Assure, and Scotchbond groups were 12.1, 12.3, 13.3, 17.2, and 17.7 MPa respectively. The mean bond strengths for Transbond+Diamond, MIP+Diamond, Plastic Conditioner+Diamond, Assure+Diamond, and Scotchbond+Diamond groups were 18.5, 16.4, 19.1, 19.5, and 20.7 MPa respectively. ANOVA revealed a statistically significant diffe rence (P d"0.05) among the groups. Conclusions: Mechanically roughening the surface of a composite resin restoration with a diamond bur, provided significantly greater bond strengths, regardless of the bonding resin used. However, Assure and Scotchbond, without diamond bur preparation, provided similar bond strengths to Transbond, MIP and Plastic Conditioner, with diamond bur preparation. 1. 3M Unitek, Monrovia CA 2. Book Effect of Delayed Polymerization Time and Bracket Manipulation on Orthodontic Bracket Bonding

Download or read book Effect of Delayed Polymerization Time and Bracket Manipulation on Orthodontic Bracket Bonding written by Michael J. Ponikvar and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examined the effect of bracket manipulation in combination with delayed polymerization times on orthodontic bracket shear bond strength and degree of resin composite conversion. Orthodontics brackets were bonded to extracted third molars in a simulated oral environment after a set period of delayed polymerization time and bracket manipulation. After curing the bracket adhesive, each bracket underwent shear bond strength testing followed by micro-Raman spectroscopy analysis to measure the degree of conversion of the resin composite. Results demonstrated the shear bond strength and the degree of conversion of ceramic brackets did not vary over time. However, with stainless steel brackets there was a significant effect (p ≤ 0.05) of delay time on shear bond strength between the 0.5 min and 10 min bracket groups. In addition, stainless steel brackets showed significant differences related to degree of conversion over time between the 0.5 min and 5 min groups, in addition to the 0.5 min and 10 min groups. This investigation suggests that delaying bracket adhesive polymerization up to a period of 10 min then adjusting the orthodontic bracket may increase both shear bond strength and degree of conversion of stainless steel brackets while having no effect on ceramic brackets.

Book Nonmetallic Materials and Composites at Low Temperature

Download or read book Nonmetallic Materials and Composites at Low Temperature written by G. Hartwig and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This, the second special topical conference on the properties of Non-Metallic Materials at Low Temperatures, was sponsored by the International Cryogenic Materials Conference Board. The potential for plastics materials in the field of cryogenics is vast and as yet only partly explored. In addition, many other materials, which qualify for the title non-metallic but are not 'plastics', have numerous possible outlets in low temperature technology. This conference aimed at providing a forum, whereby specialists from Industry, the Universities and from Government sponsored Institutions could assemble to discuss the extent of our current knowledge. As it transpired, the meeting was also to high light the considerable gaps that still exist in our fundamental understanding of the low temperature behaviour of these materials. On this theme, during the course of the conference, a reference was made to an almost forgotten quotation by Lord Kelvin, who said: "When you cannot measure what you are speaking about, when you cannot express in numbers, your knowledge is of a meagre and unsatisfactory kind; it may be the beginning of knowledge, but you have scarcely in your thoughts advanced to the stage of a science, whatever the matter be." This simple statement sums up the aims, objectives and hopefully the achievements of this conference. To discuss and disseminate the current knowledge on non-metallic materials in order that realistic predictions of in-service performance may be made.

Book The Care and Handling of Art Objects

Download or read book The Care and Handling of Art Objects written by Marjorie Shelley and published by Metropolitan Museum of Art. This book was released on 2019-06-25 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Metropolitan Museum of Art houses one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive collections of works of art from antiquities to modern and contemporary material. Their preservation is a responsibility shared by the many individuals employed at the Museum who oversee and have direct contact with the collection on a daily basis. The Care and Handing of Art Objects—first published in the 1940s and continually updated—offers a guide to the best practices in handling and preserving works of art while on display, in storage and in transit. It explains many of the fundamental principles of conservation that underlie these methods. One of its goals is to make the complexities of caring for a collection readily accessible. The first part offers basic guidelines for the preservation of the diverse types of materials and art objects found in the Met. Each chapter addresses the physical characteristics specific to the particular category, and the environmental, handling and housing factors to which one should be alert to prevent damage and ensure their preservation. Written by experts in the respective specialty, it addresses the Museum’s vast holdings summarizing the most critical preservation issues, many of which are amplified by photographs. As the table of contents makes evident these range from paintings on canvas and works on paper and photographs to furniture and objects made of stone, wood and metals to arms and armor, upholstery, ethnographic materials and many others. Part II succinctly describes factors that affect the collection as a whole: among them, current environmental standards for temperature, relative humidity, light exposure, storage and art in transit. Based on Museum protocols it addresses emergency preparedness and response, and integrated pest management. For easy reference, it includes charts on storage and display conditions, on factors contributing to deterioration, and a glossary of conservation terms, principles, and housing materials referenced in the individual chapters. Drawing upon the knowledge of conservators, scientists, and curators from many different departments, as well as technicians and engineers whose expertise crosses boundaries of culture, chronology, medium and condition, The Care and Handing of Art Objects is primarily directed to staff at the Met. It is, no less, an invaluable resource for students, collectors, small museums, museum study programs, art dealers, and members of the public who want to enhance their understanding of how works of art are safeguarded and the role environment, handling and materials play in making this possible.
