Book excerpt: Abstract: Pressure distributions on two wing-body combinations were obtained at Mach number of 1.9 to investigate wing-body interference. A rectangular wing, a triangular wing, and a cylindrical body having an ogive nose were investigated alone and in combination. Pressure distributions over the wing body combination compared favorable with theoretical calculations based primarily on a generalization of the method of Nielsen and Matteson, except at the root section of wings where boundary layer of body modified the flow.

Book excerpt: Data are presented which show the effect of a jet on base pressure for a series of conical afterbody-jet-nozzle combinations having boattail angles that varied from o to 11 degrees and base-to-jet diameter ratios that varied from 1.11 to 2.67. The jet nozzles had exit angles from 0 to 20 degrees and were designed for exit Mach numbers from 1.0 to 3.2. Pressure ratios up to 30 tested for both a cold (air) and a hot (rocket) jet. The investigation was conducted at free-stream Mach numbers of 1.91 to 3.12.

The tests were made at a Mach number of 1.43 and covered an angle-of-attack range from -4 degrees to 20 degrees. The average Reynolds number based on the wing mean aerodynamic chord was 2.9 X 10(6) during tests at a stagnation pressure of 1.0 atmosphere and 1.5 X 10(6) during tests at a stagnation pressure of 0.5 atmosphere.
