Book excerpt: The book is designed to cover the study of electro-mechanical energy converters in all relevant aspects, and also to acquaint oneself of a single treatment for all types of machines for modelling and analysis. The book starts with the general concepts of energy conversion and basic circuit elements, followed by a review of the mathematical tools. The discussion goes on to introduce the concepts of energy storage in magnetic field, electrical circuits used in rotary electro-mechanical devices and three-phase systems with their transformation. The book, further, makes the reader familiar with the modern aspects of analysis of machines like transient and dynamic operation of machines, asymmetrical and unbalanced operation of poly-phase induction machines, and finally gives a brief exposure to space phasor concepts.

Book Electromagnetics for Electrical Machines

Download or read book Electromagnetics for Electrical Machines written by Saurabh Kumar Mukerji and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electromagnetics for Electrical Machines offers a comprehensive yet accessible treatment of the linear theory of electromagnetics and its application to the design of electrical machines. Leveraging valuable classroom insight gained by the authors during their impressive and ongoing teaching careers, this text emphasizes concepts rather than numerical methods, providing presentation/project problems at the end of each chapter to enhance subject knowledge. Highlighting the essence of electromagnetic field (EMF) theory and its correlation with electrical machines, this book: Reviews Maxwell’s equations and scalar and vector potentials Describes the special cases leading to the Laplace, Poisson’s, eddy current, and wave equations Explores the utility of the uniqueness, generalized Poynting, Helmholtz, and approximation theorems Discusses the Schwarz–Christoffel transformation, as well as the determination of airgap permeance Addresses the skin effects in circular conductors and eddy currents in solid and laminated iron cores Contains examples relating to the slot leakage inductance of rotating electrical machines, transformer leakage inductance, and theory of hysteresis machines Presents analyses of EMFs in laminated-rotor induction machines, three-dimensional field analyses for three-phase solid rotor induction machines, and more Electromagnetics for Electrical Machines makes an ideal text for postgraduate-level students of electrical engineering, as well as of physics and electronics and communication engineering. It is also a useful reference for research scholars concerned with problems involving electromagnetics.

Book Energy Efficiency in Electric Motors Drives Power Converters and Related Systems

Download or read book Energy Efficiency in Electric Motors Drives Power Converters and Related Systems written by Mario Marchesoni and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-06-25 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, there is a great deal of attention focused on sustainable growth worldwide. The increase in efficiency in the use of energy may even, in this historical moment, bring greater benefit than the use of renewable energies. Electricity appears to be the most sustainable of energies and the most promising hope for a planet capable of growing without compromising its own health and that of its inhabitants. Power electronics and electrical drives are the key technologies that will allow energy savings through the reduction of energy losses in many applications. This Special Issue has collected several scientific contributions related to energy efficiency in electrical equipment. Some articles are dedicated to the use and optimization of permanent magnet motors, which allow obtaining the highest level of efficiency. Most of the contributions describe the energy improvements that can be achieved with power electronics and the use of suitable control techniques. Last but not least, some articles describe interesting solutions for hybrid vehicles, which were created mainly to save energy in the smartest way possible.

Book The Factors Affecting the Optimal Performance of Eddy current Machines

Download or read book The Factors Affecting the Optimal Performance of Eddy current Machines written by Henry D. L. Clark and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents an examination of the factors which influence the performance of eddy-current machines and the way in which they affect optimality of those machines. After a brief introduction to the types of eddy-current machine considered, the applications to which these machines are put are examined. A list of parameters by which to assess their performance is obtained by considering the machine as part of a system. in this way an idea of what constitutes an optimal machine is obtained. The third chapter then identifies the factors which affects the performance and makes a quantitative evaluation of the effect. Here the various alternative configurations and components are compared with regard to their influence on the mechanical, electromagnetic, and thermal performance criteria of the machine. Chapter four contains a brief review of the methods of controlling eddy-current machines by electronic methods using thyristors or transistors as the final control element. Where necessary, the results of previous workers in the field of electrical machines have been extended or adapted to increase the usefulness of this thesis.
